  • In this paper, waveguide banpass filters using H-plane step discontinuities are designed based on the field theory analysis and optimization of the resonator lengths as well as dimensions of discontinuities, instead of the conventional synthesis method based on the equivalent circuit. The waveguide inductive obstacles introduced by H-plane step discontinuities analyzed using mode-matching method and the generalized scattering parameters are derived. Using the derived scattering parameters of the discontinuities as well as those of resonators, waveguide bandpass filters are designed through optimization method, modified Razor search method proposed by J.H.Bandler. Using this design procedures, waveguide bandpass filters are designed and tested at X-band(center frequency 10GHz) as well as Ka-band(center frequency 35GHz).

  • This work demonstrates attenuation effects of plasma on waves propagating in the 26.5-40 GHz range. The effect is investigated via experiments measuring the transmission between two Ka-band horn antennas set 30 cm apart. A dielectric-barrier-discharge (DBD) plasma generator with a size of $200mm{\times}100mm{\times}70mm$ and consisting of 20 layers of electrodes is placed between the two antennas. The DBD generator is placed in a $400mm{\times}300mm{\times}400mm$ acrylic chamber so that the experiments can be performed for plasma generated under various conditions of gas and pressure, for instance, in air, Ar, and He environments at 0.001, 0.05, and 1 atm of pressure. Attenuation is calculated by the difference in the transmission level, with and without plasma, which is generated with a bias voltage of 20 kV in the 0.1-1.4 kHz range. Results show that the attenuation varies from 0.05 dB/m to 9.0 dB/m depending on the environment. Noble gas environments show higher levels of attenuation than air, and He is lossier than Ar. In all gas environments, attenuation increases as pressure increases. Finally, electromagnetic models of plasmas generated in various conditions are provided.

  • Simple practical design method is proposed for the waffle-iron waveguide filter. The design procedure comprises two steps. The first step is to calculate the K-inverter based on the transformed ABCD parameter from the S parameter for the single window of waffle-iron structure by use of EM S/W tool. The second step is to optimize the size of the windows such that the calculated K inverters may be in accord with the distributed constant prototype filter. In order to validate the design method, a waffle-iron filter for satellite communications over the Ka band is designed and fabricated. The measured results are in good agreement with the calculated ones.

  • In this paper, the signal reception environment of the satellite communications was analyzed on urban, suburban and rural environment. The correct analysis of received environment is very important in the satellite communications because the presence of various attenuation factors. Analyze attenuation factor through the simulation and that apply to each receiving environment. The urban and suburban various received sensitivity is determined according to building height and density. Moreover, attenuation occurs in rural areas due to the mountainous and vegetation. In this paper, we analysis of variety receiving environment according to movement of the ground station and the satellites can be utilized to provide stable multimedia services.

  • This paper presents the multibeam service coverage of GEO(Geostationary Orbit) satellite and the practical antenna scheme scenarios to provide the universal communication services on the Korean peninsula. The proposed antenna systems consist of the simplest scheme and feed network so that they can be mounted on satellites. The feed networks are effectively organized according to the frequency and polarization plan. Despite simple structure, all scenarios meet the electrical performance by the optimization of feed allocation and feed excitation.

  • The specific DNA band appeared in PCR-RAPD analysis using OPO-2 primer was a very important for the researching Korean pine-mushrooms, Tricholoma matsutake. This DNA band, sequenced to be the 770 base pairs, existed as only a single copy in the whole genomic DNA's of Korean pine-mushrooms. However, this band was not presenting from the PCR-RAPD bands of other ectomycorrhyzal fungi reacted with the OPO-2 primer or the dot blots. Also, this DNA sequence was not matched with those of the other genes known by NCBI and had low homology together with sequence of other proteins compared. Those results suggested that the specific DNA band can be used as probe for identification of T. matsutake and might be related to the informations rather than the gene for the proteins with analysis of protein sequence translated from the DNA sequence.

  • The main mission of OTM(On-The-Move) satellite communication system is to provide satellite communication service while moving on a vehicle. So it should have a capability to maintain a reliable communication channel when it travels at high speeds or in a severe fluctuation region. This paper presents a small-sized multi-mode monopulse structure applicable to OTM satellite communication system which has only single mode-coupler with a pair of slot using a feature of circular polarized received signal. And tracking error signal is defined using fundamental and high-order modes.

  • The change in global climate and Asian monsoon patterns during the mid-Holocene, 6000 years before present (6 ka), is simulated by a climate model at spectral truncations of T170 with 18 vertical layers, corresponding to grid-cell sizes of roughly 75km. The present simulation is forced with the observed monthly data of sea surface temperatures, and the specified concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide, while in the mid-Holocene experiment, orbital parameters such as obliquity, precession, and eccentricity are changed to the 6ka conditions. Under such conditions, the precipitation associated with the summer monsoon is enhanced over a wider zonal band from the Middle East to Southeast Asia, while no significant alteration takes Place in winter. The monsoonal wind also increases over the Arabian Sea, showing the enhanced southwesterly wind during summer and northeasterly wind during winter. Overall, the showing of the Asian monsoon is enhanced during the mid-Holocene, especially in summer, which is consistent with the proxy estimates and other previous model simulations.

  • The phase noise spectrum distribution of COMS Communication transponder was measured and analyzed in the view point of transmission scheme. The effects of phase noise are also analyzed according to the transmission methods. The phase noise of COMS communication transponder may be increased because of utilization of ka-band. So the effects of phase noise will be increased in conditions of high-order transmission mode. The phase noise characteritics are measured for COMS communication transponder with MSM function and the effects for phase noise are analyzed in this paper.
