  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the development of logical thinking and scientific reasoning pattern of Korean high school students. To carry out this study subjects were selected about 2,000 Junior high school students, and about 4,100 senior high school students throughout the nation. They were identified as concrete, transitional or formal operational stage with the use of TOLT(the Test of Logical Thinking) by Tobin and Capie(1980), and TOSR(the Test of Scientific Reasoning) by W.A Farmer(1986). This study turned out that more than 76% of Junior high school students were classified as the concrete operational stage and about 44% of senior high school students were classified as the formal operational stage, while about 26% of them were still in the concrete operational level. This study showed that the main factor of the intellectual development of students is learning by the gradual advancement of their grades and especially entrance into the senior high school rather than by the physical growth. This study also showed that there are the take-off stage of the development of logical thinking between fourteen and fifteen years of their ages. Less than 25% of junior high school students were in the formal operational stages which are capable of control of variables, probabilistic, correlation and combinational logic in problem-solving situation, while 33-54% of senior high school students were in the formal operational levels. 38% of junior high school students were in the formal operational stage which is capable of proportional logic, while about 55% of senior high school students were in the formal operational stage. Less than 20% of senior high school students were classified as group of highly capable of scientific reasoning, while more than 23% of them were classified as group of poor capability. It also turned out that there are differences or no differences between male and female students of each school in problem-solving situation regarding each logic approach. These differences were proved to be fluctuating depending on the situations and their grades. The other results of this study is similar to those of other researches such as Tomlinson-Keasey 1972, Coleman 1973, Lawson 1973, Lawson and Renner 1974, Neimark 1975, Han 1982, and Kim 1989.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine values and value changes of the four year course nursing college students. The survey was conducted against 262 students of the nursing college, from all classes (freshman, sophomre, junior and senior). This study was conducted during the period of first through 15th of December 1984 in accordance with the L.V. Gordon's“Survey of Interpersonal Values (SIV)”. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Those nursing students surveyed show that conformity (16.32) took the highest place and reconition (10.21) lowest in the general value orientation. In accordance with the Cordon's SIV, those of other woman college students indicate 14%ile-65%ile, respectively. 2. Changes in values by class indicate that freshman, sohpomore and senior students showed similar Pattern but junior students showed significantly lower than other classes. The difference should be considered on the basis of statistics (p <.05). Accordingly, the hypho-thesis 1 of this study has been supported. 3. Significant variation has been shown by each class in each factor such as support, conformity, independence and benevolence but no variation has been indicated in leadership and recognition. 4. There was difference in values between higher class (jounior and senior) students with clinical experience and starting class (freshman and sophomore) students without clinical experience. The study indicates the values of higher class. students is lower than that of starting class. students (P <.05). Therefor, the hyphothesis 2 of this study has been supported. 5. There was no significant difference in values between entering students and graduating students (p<.05), Thus, the hyphothesis 3 of this study has been rejected. The results of the finding of the study show that there is no positive influence in forming the values. for the students. Therefore, it is concluded that new strategy and special educational program should be established for formulation of the right values for the nursing college students.

  • This study investigates the effect of recovery elasticity of beauty college students on university life adaptation during COVID-19. Further, the mediating effect of grit in relation to recovery elasticity and university life adaptation is analyzed. Survey data of 223 students (female: 192; male: 31) were collected for multiple and intermediate regression analyses using SPSS 24.0. The results reveal a static correlation between the lower factors of resilience, glittery, and adaptation to college life and that the resilience of junior college students in the beauty department had a static effect on grit and their adaptation to college life. Passion, a subordinate factor of grit, is mediated by the effect of grit on the relationship between resilience and adaptation to university life. However, perseverance, another subordinate factor of grit, did not have any such mediating effect. These results confirm the importance of grit, particularly passion, for resilience and adaptation to college life. It was confirmed that resilience was due to college life adaptation of beauty department students, and it was confirmed that passion, a sub-factor of grit, also had a mediating effect. Therefore, it is judged that resilience induces physical and mental adaptation, interpersonal adaptation, and academic adaptation necessary for college life, and works in many ways to improve the quality of life of beauty department junior college students. Instructors should consider developing educational programs for improving recovery elasticity and grit to help students better adapt to university life.

  • Aspects of nursing student's clinical experiences are anxiety provoking. High anxiety may contribute to decreased learning. The purpose of this study was to identify the level of anxiety and potentially anxiety-producing clinical experience, the relation between the level of anxiety and their Trait-Anxiety and State-Anxiety. Finally, it is aimed at getting preparing data for guidance of students which can enhance learning effect of students for clinical experience. The samples of this study were 36 junior students(1 semester experience) and 44 senior students (3 semester experience) from Junior College of Nursing in Seoul on September 1996. The tools of this study were two kinds ; questionare of Spielberg' STAI measuring State and Trait-Anxiety, and author's for measuring the level of Anxiety producing situations and 10cm visual analogue scale was also used for measuring self stated level of anxiety on clinical setting. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS using percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The self perception of anxiety level was 4.3/10cm and the level of anxiety in clinical setting situations was 3.5/5. 2. Among 20 questions for perception of anxiety-producing situations in the clinical setting. 'deficit of nursing knowledge' was the highest item(4.18), 'vagueness of role'(4.11), 'lack of nursing skill'(4.00), 'evaluation by faculty'(4.00) 'fear of making mistakes'(3.81) 'initial clinical experience on a unit'(3.76) 'initial application of nursing knowledge'(3.74) in turn. 3. The level of State-anxiety of senior students was higher than junior's (p=0.005)and the level of Trait-Anxiety of insufficient interpersonal relationship and unhealthy students were higher than others (p=0.015) There was no differences according to the student's grade in level of anxiety. 4. Both of self-stated anxiety and situationa anxiety of unhealthy students were high (p=0.007, p=0.000) and the level of self-stated anxiety of unsatisfied students for selection major and clinical experience were high (p=0.050, p=0.009). 5. Self-stated anxiety and situation anxiety (p=0.0000), self-stated- anxiety and Trait-anxiety(p=0.003), situation anxiety and Trait-anxiety(p=0.004), and Trait-anxiety and state-anxiety(p=0.000) of the students were interrelated. By the above conclusion, the nursing students still feel anxiety on clinical experience and on making a mistake due to the lack of their nursing knowledge and skill. And the students are afraid of the faculties' evaluation. In addition, the students who are not healthy and have not sufficiently interpersonal relationship feel more anxiety. But, since there was no difference significantly between each grade, we think it is needed that further study on the same topic in large samples. And, we have to equip the students with much nursing knowledge and philosophy apparently before the students have clinical experience. Finally, the faculty have to reduce the students' anxiety by making a climate of acceptance in clinical setting with good personality.
