  • We studied radiation dose in mammography through 34-46 kv range using acryl phantom. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Incident radiation was maximum with high kvp and thin added filtration. 2. Transmitted radiation by acryl phantom and its thickness were in reciprocal relationship. 3. The acryl thickness to produce comparable film density with soft tissue of breast was 6 cm. 4. The X-ray exposure for comparable density radiographs increased mammographic film more than medical x-ray film and the amount of x-ray exposure was directly proportional to the added filtration of x-ray beam. 5. The surface dose of x-ray exposure needed to produce film density of 1.0 for 6cm acryl phantom was 1,084-1,575mR in mammographic film and 476-625 mR in medical x-ray film.

  • This study presents results of surveys conducted Seoul area using structured questionnaire developed by researchers to determine the degree of recognition and practice of breast-feeding. The subjects were mothers of 255 childs 1-36 months of age who have experienced breast feeding over one month. Recognition of breastfeeding was significantly associated with "baby's health", "emotional relationship between mother and infant", "mother's health", "for economic reasons". The majority of mothers got information of breastfeeding through booklets(64.7%), from her mothers(44.7%), through T.V or Radio (45.5%), School education(41.6%) from mother in law(36.5%), and did not perceive professional advice from nurses or doctors as important. "Lack of milk" was the predominant reason for for terminating breastfeeding. Efforts for practice of breastfeeding was comparatively high because of experienced mothers of breastfeeding. Some of them were "frying to take liguid diet and nurtitional food for increasing secretion of milk", "fed on by infant-demanded schedule". Duration of breastfeeding was under on month (31.0%), 1-3 months(25.5%), 3-6 months(19.6%), 6-9 months (11.0%). Degree of recognition and practice of breastfeeding was significantly correlated with mother's educational background, location of delivary(big hopital), Rooming in, over 5 months of breastfeeding. Based on the results of this study, we suggest that effective and supportive breastfeeding program developed by nurses have to provide to mothers of infants to take an important role in breastfeeding.

  • The purpose of this study was to Identify the self-actualization level of Junior College Nursing Students and to analyze the variables that may be related to self-actualization. A convenient sample of 346 students were selected from three colleges located in Seoul and Kyungki-Province. The data were collected using a direct survey method from September17to October 2, 1992. The instrument used for this study was the self-actualization test modified by Kim & Lee(1983). The collected data were analyzed using percentages, means, 1-test, X$^2$-test, ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation coefficient, with the SPSSPC$^{+}$ Package. The results of this study are as follows : 1) The self-actualization level of subjects was moderate. The subjects showed higher scores in the areas of Self actualizing Values and Nature of Man than the standardized normal groups. The subjects showed lower scores in the areas of Inner Directed Existentiality, Self acceptance and Capacity for Intimate Contact. 2) The subjects attending day junior colleges showed higher scores in the areas of Time competent, Existentiality and Self Acceptance than those attending college in the evening. The subjects attending evening junior colleges showed higher scores in the areas of Spontaneity than those attending college by day. 3) The junior students showed higher scores in the areas of Feel-ing Reactivity than freshman. The students with no religion showed higher scores in the areas of existentiality than those who had a religion. The group who had the experience of failure on the college entrance examination showed lower scores in the areas of Nature of Man than those without this experience. Those who chose their major voluntary showed scores higher in the areas of I nor Directed, Self Actualizing Values, Spontaneity and Self regard than the unsatisfied group. The group satisfied with college life showed higher scores in the areas of Time Competent, Inner Directed, Self Actualizing Values and Self Regard than the unsatisfied group. In conclusion self actualization level depends on motivation of choice, satisfaction with nursing as a major and satisfaction with college life. Therefore, and effective guidance program is required to improve motivation and satisfaction with nursing as a major and with college life.
