This study aims at measuring and comparing the joint range of motion(ROM) of the elderly, quantitatively understanding the joint ROM and duration for their dressing and undressing of pants with 3D motion analysis equipment, and thereby providing basic data necessary for the future development of clothes carrying functional designs. The findings are as follows. As for the study method, the 9-item joint ROM measurements were conducted with goniometer, and the questionnaire analyses were carried out for t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis with spss12.0 program. The 3D motion analyses were handled with 3D Motion Analysis Package Version 3.1 Program. The findings are as follows. First, the ROM was shown to be significantly low, as the arthritis-pain consciousness level was felt higher by the subject than the average one. Seven ROM variables, such as hip flexion, hip adduction, hip internal rotation, hip external rotation, knee flexion, ankle dorsiflexion, and ankle plantar flexion, were shown to significantly affect the discomfort level experienced at the time of dressing or undressing. Second, in the motion of inserting the remaining leg into the pant crotch part(3e), the difference of angles in the hip joint and knee joint was the largest between the women in their 20s and the elderly women with arthritis. Third.

Background: Ankle sprains are a common clinical ankle disorder and alternations in tibiofibular joint biomechanics along with the talus are thought to contribute to its occurrence. During ankle joint dorsi flexion, proper movement requires the talus to glide posteriorly. Due to the wider front of the talus head, achieving the end range of dorsi flexion necessitates both superior and posterior glide of the distal fibula and anterior glide of the proximal fibula. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of tibiofibular joint mobilization on pain, range of motion, and balance in patients with lateral ankle sprains. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to a control group (n=33) or an experimental group (n=31). Both groups underwent ankle joint mobilization three times a week for two weeks. Additionally, the experimental group received proximal and distal tibiofibular joint mobilization three times a week for two weeks. Measurements were obtained pre-intervention and post-intervention (after 2 weeks). Results: Evaluation parameters included the visual analog scale score (VAS), range of motion (ROM), and one-leg standing test (OLS). Post-intervention, both groups demonstrated significantly improved results for all assessments (p<.01). A significant intergroup difference was observed only in the ROM (p<.01) and OLS (p<.05). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that tibiofibular joint mobilization, combined with ankle joint mobilization, may be beneficial in enhancing outcomes for individuals with lateral ankle sprains.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of continuous wave ultrasound and pulsed wave ultrasound that influence changes in pain and range of motion when applied to patients with temporomandibular joint disability. Methods: The subjects of the study were 40 selected patients who had been diagnosed with temporomandibular joint movement restriction and had endured pain for more than two weeks. These patients had visited K orthopedic surgery in Deagu measured from October 1, 2004 to March 31, 2005. The subjects were divided into two groups with 20 patients each. The one group was applied to continuous wave ultrasound and the other group was applied to pulsed wave ultrasound at a dosage of 1.5 W/$cm^2$ for a duration of 5 minutes and eight times for two weeks. The pain perception degree were measured by using Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the range of motion was measured by using a rule for each group. Results: The results obtained were as follows The change in the pain perception degree were statistically significant in both group(p<0.05) ; however, the continuous wave ultrasound group showed more difference in the average decrease in the pain perception degree than did the pulsed wave ultrasound group. Both groups showed significant results regarding changed in the range of motion(p<0.05) ; Comparing the difference in the average of the range of motion between the two groups, came back from normal the range of motion of temporomandibular joint at the both groups. Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, we found that both groups showed decreased pain and increased the range of motion, but the continuous wave ultrasound method had a higher therapy effect pain and the range of motion than the pulsed wave ultrasound method to patients with temporomandibular joint disability. With such finding, we expect that according to ultrasound therapy applicant method can be helped usable accurately to patients with variety symptoms temporomandibular joint disability.
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to prove the increasing range of motion of joint to the patients of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder applied the gliding-mobilization. Subjects and methods : The subjects are patients of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder who have limited range of motion due to capsular pattern on the shoulder. The subjects are volunteer patients without a history of neuromuscular problems and randomly distributed into two groups. 15 experimental subjects(4 male, 11 female) received therapy with gliding-mobilization applied on limited shoulder joint and a second group with 15 control subjects(6 male 9 female) was treated by physiological passive range of motion therapy. The data were analyzed with paired t-test to determine striking differences depending on the course of treatment. Result : 1) In the group treated by gliding-mobilization the range of motion in shoulder flexion was increased in accordance to the course of treatment, and paired t-test showed striking differences(p<.05). 2) The range of motion in shoulder extension was increased in accordance to the course of treatment, and paired t-test showed striking differences(p<0.05). 3) The range of motion in shoulder abduction was increased with serise of treatment, and paired t-test showed striking differences(p<0.05). Conclusion : The gliding-mobilization increases the range of motion of the patient of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder.

Background: The case study examined the effect of a hip joint traction and hip posterolateral muscles strengthening on knee pain, range of motion, and lower extremity function scale of patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Although PFPS has previously been attributed to quadriceps dysfunction, more recent research has linked this condition to impairment of the hip musculature and kinematic. Methods: Subject is a 27-years-old female with PFPS. Performed hip joint traction with belt and posterolateral muscles(hip abductors, external rotators) strengthening for 4 weeks, 3 times a week, once a day. Before and after the therapy, measurements were made on the visual analog scale (VAS) and of the ROM, and a lower extremity functional scale (LEFS) was conducted. Results: The results showed positive changes in VAS and range of motion and lower extremity functional scale. First VAS of knee changed from 6 to 2. Second hip joint range of motion showed that internal rotation recored from $53^{\circ}$ to $58^{\circ}$ and external rotation recorded from $32^{\circ}$ to $37^{\circ}$. Third The lower extremity functional scale showed before therapy of 44; after therapy, 63. Conclusion: The hip joint traction and hip posterolateral muscles strengthening was effective in alleviating knee pain, increasing ROM and Lower extremity functional scale of the PFPS patients.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the concurrent validity and clinical usefulness of the universal plastic goniometer to measure the range of motion of the internal and external rotation of the hip joint using the three dimensional motion analysis which can analyze the joints and segment movements in the most objective and quantitative method. METHODS: Clinical and kinematic data were collected from thirty individuals using a universal plastic goniometer and a ten camera motion analysis system. Passive hip rotation range was obtained three trials for left and right hip joints using two measure methods simultaneously. RESULTS: There were significant differences between all matching measures of the two measures of internal and external rotation of the hip joint (p<.05). The relationship between the two tests for all measurements of the internal and external rotation of the hip was statistically significant with correlation coefficient form r=.87 to .96. (p<.01). CONCLUSION: Clinical measurement of the internal and external rotation of the hip using a universal plastic goniometer is effective to assess the hip condition. However, application of universal plastic goniometer requires careful attention in more accurate evaluation and research verification of the internal and external rotation of hip joint.
The purpose of this study was to compare kinematic characteristics on the limbs at 3 different walking speed during the energy and the normal walking. Eight subjects performed energy walking and normal walking at the slow speed(65 beats/min), the normal speed(115beats/min), the fast speed(160 beats/min). The 3-d angle was calculated by vector projected with least squares solution with three-dimensional cinematography(Motion Analysis corporation). The range of motion was calculated on the trunk, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee joint. The results showed that stride length was no difference of the two walking pattern. The duration of support phase was also no difference of the two walking pattern. The range of motion of shoulder joint significantly increased in the sagittal and frontal planes, and the range of motion of elbow joint significantly increased as the energy walking. The range of motion of hip joint had no significant difference in the any planes in changing of walking speed. But the most remarkable difference of the two walking patterns revealed at the trunk. The range of flexion/extension angle had significant increasing $2.36^{\circ}$ at normal speed, and the range of the right/left flexion angle had significant increasing below $4^{\circ}$ at the 3 walking speed, and The range of rotation angle had significant increasing $7.35^{\circ}$, $9.22^{\circ}$, respectively at the normal and slow speed. But there was no significant difference of range of motion at the hip and knee joints between energy walking and normal walking.
Objective: This study was conducted to apply skin mobilization to patients with Axillary web syndrome following breast cancer resection and to see the resulting changes in pain and joint range of motion. Design: Single case study,pre-post comparison. Methods: The subject was a female patient in her 40s who performed a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and then complained of uncomfortable pain from the shoulder joint to the axilla and limited range of motion. To implement a skin mobilization, the palms were adhered to the inner half of the arm, the arms were raised to a pain-free extent, and skin mobilization was performed. The skin was pulled in the direction of axilla and kept for 5 seconds 10 times for a total of 2 sets. Immediate changes in range of motion and pain were identified. Results: Following skin mobilization, there was an immediate increase in range of motion (pre 116°, post 140°) and a decrease in pain (NRS pre 5, post 2). And also uncomfortable pain, which is hard to define in words, also seems to have improved. Conclusions: Skin mobilization, which considers skin mobility for patients with Axillary web syndrome, can be considered for improving range of motion and restoring function in patients with pain due to fibrous bands around veins and lymphatic vessels, and is recommended as a new intervention method not used as a conventional treatment.
