We analyzed the impact of resilience, a psychological factor, on job seeking of unemployed people in their fifties. Subjects were visited and provided employment services in the Employment Welfare Plus Center in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. We devised a questionnaire consisting of three variables of general characteristics, resilience, and job search. Also, the resilience variables comprised sub-variables of control, positiveness, and sociality, and the job search variables involved sub-variables of job preparation, attitude, and willness. Study results the resilience of unemployed persons aged 50 to 59 is above average, and sub-variables of positiveness are highest compared to other sub-variables. Second, there is no significant gender difference in resilience for job search activities. Third, resilience and its sub-variables, such as control and affirmation, affect job-seeking activities. Therefore, this study suggests strengthening the resilience of job seekers in their fifties as well as providing psychological counseling and job training for job-seeking activities.

  • This paper analyzed the effect of job search channels on the occupational adaptation of college graduates, with the Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey(GOMS) data. The analysis results are as follows: First, when using human networks for getting jobs, not only the educational level and major adequacy, but also the workplace satisfaction and the job satisfaction were higher than when using non-human networks. Second, as in the mediating effect of the relationship between job search channels and occupational adaptation by Sobel-test, it was found that there was a partial mediating effect of educational level and major adequacy, excluding skill level adequacy. The results of this study shows that human networks, by serving as an effective information transmitter on person-job fit between job search and recruitment, contribute significantly to improve occupational adaptation of college graduates. These results imply that strategic utilization of human networks in job search activities is important, and that it is necessary that career-related programs in the universities or the employment service institutions systematically include the importance and methods of using human networks.

  • With the advancement of information and communications technology, a means to recruit IT professional has fundamentally changed. Nowadays recruiters search for candidate information from the Web as well as traditional information sources such as résumés or interviews. Particularly, open-source software development (OSSD) platforms have become an opportunity for developers to demonstrate their IT capabilities, making it a way for recruiters to find the right candidates, whom they need. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact developers' profiles in an OSSD platform on their finding a job. This study examined four antecedents of developer information that can accelerate their job search: job-seeking status, personal-information posting, learning activities and knowledge contribution activities. For the empirical analysis, we developed a Web crawler and gathered a dataset on 4,005 developers from GitHub, which is a well-known OSSD platform. Proportional hazards regression was used for data analysis because shorter job-seeking period implies more successful result of job change. Our results indicate that developers, who explicitly posted their job-seeking status, had shorter job-seeking periods than those who did not. The other antecedents (i.e., personal-information posting, learning, and knowledge contribution activities) also contributed in reducing the job-seeking period. These findings imply values of OSSD platforms for recruiters to find proper candidates and for developers to successfully find a job.

  • Gender differences in the seperation of emplo-yment from home and commuting patterns of the Seoul Area are examined in this paper. Throughout the analysis, it is found that there exist a substantial gender variation in comm-uting rates. Even though the regional variation of commuting rates of male workers is very small, the female workers' regional variation of commuting rates is substantial. Especially, the area around the traditional central place of Kangbuk, the area near the Youngdungpo and Kuro where manufacturing and retailing activities are concentrated, and the area where low-income families are concentrated show high rate of female commuting. In contrast, the traditional residential area, especially the high-income area of Kangnam, shows lower rate of female commuting. Generally, female workers tend to work closer to home than male workers. Accordingly, the job search range of female workers is smaller than that of mle workers. But the areal unit of job search range of female workers is wider at least than Dong. The fact that female workers' job search area is smaller than male workers' implies that the job opportunity around the home location could have more impacts on female workers' job search process than male workers' job search process. There is a substantial difference in commuting behavior between male and female workers. In general, male workers commute longer, use more expensive transportation mode, and pay higher transportation cost in comparision with female workers. These gender differences in commuting behavior could be resulted not only form the gender difference in the seperation of employment form work, but also form the gender difference in the social status in both work place and home.

  • Fifteen years have passed since the enactment of the Industrial Technology Innovation Promotion Act, which promoted industry cooperation activities for universities. Therefore, the study analyzes the relationship between the university's industrial cooperation activities and the college graduates' starting salaries and provides policy suggestions on improving the direction of university-industry cooperation. The study used nine-year panel data from Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey (GOMS) to conduct an empirical analysis and found that starting salaries of college graduates were not significantly higher if the university only participated in basic industry cooperation activities. On the other hand, when the quality of university-industry cooperation activities was higher, such as job search support, the starting salary of college graduates was higher. The findings suggest that university-industry cooperation activities must focus on qualitative performances rather than quantitative approaches.

  • This study analyzes educational panel on the relationship between college life and job satisfaction of women college graduates. Higher college satisfaction increases job satisfaction of women workers with college degrees. Job training programs increase job satisfaction. However, job satisfaction relative to her skills and competency becomes lower when they complete a number of job training programs. Moreover, English education and job training programs exert positive influences over the effects of college satisfaction on job satisfaction of women workers with college degrees. Thus, although there are conflicting aspects, job training programs have potentials to contribute to the job satisfaction. The results of the study suggest that college life is closely related with their job experiences. However, Korean society neglects the importance of college relative to four-year university. Thus, Korean society exerts efforts toward enhancing the educational quality of college education.
