  • Fusarin C, which had been produced in cereals by Fusarium moniliforme, was known as a mutagen. In this study, natural occurrences of fusarin C in 12 kinds of cereals grown in Korea, fusarin C production by F. moniliforme in cereal cultures, and the relation between fusarin C production and water activity were investigated. The results were obtained as follows; 1. Fusarin C was detected large amounts in rice, glutinous millet, sorghum millet, and corn obtained from Seoul markets randomly. But in cereals selected from Pyungtaik market, fusarin C was detected in barley and job's tears only. The amounts were much lower than those from Seoul markets. It was thought that keeping conditions of cereals during retailing period were very important factors to natural occurrences of fusarin C. 2. The amounts of fusarin C production were determined much more in rice and barley cultures with F. moniliforme. In this study, the facts are made clear that rice and barley had been more proper than corn to produce fusarin C by F. monilifome. 3. Water activity had more effect on fusarin C production in corn cultures than rice cultures. In corn cultures, water activity was higher, and the amounts of fusarin C production was larger. In case of high activity (Aw 0.85), the amounts of fusarin C was shown the largest in 1 week after then was decreased rapidly.

  • This study was carried out to select proper intercrops in peony cultivation because peony is damaged easily by disease and cannot make proper income with it's single crop system, so it needs rational intercropping system to raise it's productivity and income. The results of this study are as follows. The kinds of soil nematodes were Meloidogyne sp, Pratyienchus sp, Aphelenchoides sp, Ditylenchus sp, Xiphinema sp, and damaging dominant nematode was Meloidogyne sp. The density of Meloidogyne sp wa suppressed remarkably in the combination of peony+sesame, and peony + job's tears. This study shows that sesame and job's tear were most resistant crops to the IvIeloidogyne sp. The quanity of herbaceous peony was the best in the combination of peony+red pepper. The results of income analysis per lOa for three years shows next conclusion. Peony+red pepper combination and peony+ sesame combination were most effective when it's compared with single cropping of peony (1,490 thousand won). But red pepper was damaged easily by soil nematode, therefore, sesame was the most stable and high yield crop as a intercrop in the cultivation of herbaceous peony.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of methanolic extracts of cooked mixed grain rice samples, including grain rice (sorghum, black bean, proso millet, and Job's tears) mixed with fermented brown rice (GR), GR added with 0.5% water extract of Sanghwang mushroom (GRS) or 0.1% curry (GRK), and traditional five grain mixed rice (TMR, Ohgokbap), on $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative injury in LLC-PK1 pig renal epithelial cells. White rice (WR) was used as a positive control. Cells were first exposed to $H_2O_2$ ($250{\mu}M$) for 4 hr, followed by treatment with $100{\mu}g/mL$ of different GR extracts for 24 hr. $H_2O_2$ significantly induced cell damage (P<0.05). Cellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzymes, including catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px), were measured. In addition, mRNA levels of antioxidant enzymes were determined by RT-PCR assay. Mixed grain rice, particularly GRS and GRK, were able to reduce cellular levels of ROS, decrease lipid peroxidation, and also increase mRNA expression of antioxidant enzymes compared to other samples. These results suggest that mixed grain rice, specifically GRS and GRK, have strong protective effects against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative injury in LLC-PK1 cells through inhibition of lipid peroxidation, reduction of ROS levels, and elevation of antioxidant enzyme activities.

There We found were 7 types of Mieum that were cooked by mixing rice and cereals, while 3 types of Mieum were cooked by mixing cereals and herbal medicines to with thenuts. The Mieums that were cooked by mixing meat, fish, and shellfish, etc. to the herbal medicine ingredients like such as medical plants, etc were consisted of 8 types. Therefore, a total of 18 types of Mieum, Misu, and Goeum, etc were have been classified. Among the cooking methods of for Mieum, rice and grains were boiled for an extended longtime and filtered with a sieve to be used as the juicebroth. The Job's tears and millet, etc were mixed into water, or boiled after being made into a powder, soaked into water, and dried. The herbal medicine ingredients such as ginseng were boiled for an extended long time, and once the ingredients are were flown out cooked down, it the broth was filtered with asieve to be used the as a liquid extract. The meat, bone, and shellfish, etc were also boiled for a longn extended time, filtered with a sieve, and made into a juice broth to be used as a drinks from on occasion time to time. These drinks, called Mieum, Misu, and Goeum above, were healthy foods our ancestors used to enjoy for enjoyment drinking, and were also food for remedyies and sources of nutritionon. As Since the meal replacement foods to that replace meals that can be eaten right away while working and studying are needed, due to is required within the our busy schedules of in modern peoplesociety, thise literary investigation and the cooking methods for of Mieum, Misu, and Goeum, which that used to be are our traditional foods, can be are used as a basic research material for the development of convenient breakfast to meal replacements breakfast.
