Analysis of Applicability in the Public Transportation System considering the Cost-volume Supply Curve of New Transit System Bi-Modal Tram (녹색 신교통 시스템 바이모달트램의 비용-수요 공급곡선을 고려한 도시 대중교통체계 적용 특성 분석)

  • We studied the cost-volume supply characteristic of public transportation systems focused on Bi-modal Tram in the main cities to analyze the applicability and status for the new transit system Bi-modal Tram as public transportation system. The operation cost considering the characteristic of vehicle, facilities, operation and average cost for respective public transportation system and the time cost considering the travel and transfer time are defined to the social cost, and the cost-volume supply curve is based on this social cost. The cost-volume supply characteristic between public transportation modes in the city is determined on the basis of cost-volume supply curve. Through the comparison between cost-volume supply characteristic of main transportation systems, it is analyzed about the relation between public transportation systems in the city and the characteristic for proper service provision. The application of Bi-modal Tram in the city is concluded that it is effective to reduce the social cost on the existing public transportation system.

Recognition of Falls and Activities of Daily Living using Tri-axial Accelerometer and Bi-axial Gyroscope

  • This paper proposes a threshold-based fall recognition algorithm to discriminate between falls and activities of daily living (ADL) using a tri-axial accelerometer and a bi-axial gyroscope sensor mounted on the upper sternum. The experiment was executed ten times according to the proposed experimental protocol. The output signals of the tri-axial accelerometer and the bi-axial gyroscope were measured during eight falls and eleven ADL action sequences. The threshold values of the signal vector magnitude (SVM_Acc), angular velocity (${\omega}_{res}$), and angular variation (${\theta}_{res}$) parameter were calculated using MATLAB. From the preliminary study, three thresholds (TH1, TH2, and TH3) were set so that the falls could be distinguished from ADL. When the parameter SVM_Acc is greater than 2.5 g (TH1), ${\omega}_{res}$ is greater than 1.75 rad/s (TH2), and ${\theta}_{res}$ is greater than 0.385 rad (TH3), these action sequences are recognized as falls. If at least one or more of these conditions is not satisfied, the sequence is classified as ADL.

열처리에 의한 Bi 및 Te 전구체의 기상변화에 관한 연구

  • Seebeck 효과를 이용한 열발전 소자는 에너지 절약에 대한 사회적인 필요성이 크게 대두됨에 따라 산업폐열 등 저급의 열에너지를 이용한 발전과 무인 작동이 가능하다는 점에서 군사 의료용 및 인공위성의 보조전원의 특수 목적용 전원등으로 사용하고 있다. 또한 Peltier 효과를 이용한 열전냉각 소자는 전자 광학기의 냉각 및 항온유지 등에 이용되고 있다. 이러한 열전소자 중 Bismuth Telluride계 열전소자는 상온부근에서 작동효율이 우수한 것으로, 단결정 또는 소결재를 이용하고 있다. 박막형 열전재료 및 이를 이용한 열전박막소자의 제조와 특성에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Bi-Te계 열전박막을 기상 증착법으로 제조하였고, 이에 사용되는 다양한 전구체 ($Bi(Me)_3$, $Bi(Et)_3$, $Te(iPr)_2$, $Te(Et)_2$, $Te(t-Bu)_2$)에 대한 증기압, 순도 측정 및 기상 분해특성 평가를 진행하였다. 전구체의 증기압 및 순도 측정을 위해선 자체적으로 제작한 시스템을 활용하였고, 기상 분해특성 평가를 위해선 특별히 제작된 플라즈마 열처리 모듈을 활용하였다. 이러한 연구는 열전박막소자의 제조를 위한 전구체의 선별조건을 제시하는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

A Study on the Dynamic Characteristics of the Bi-modal Tram with All-Wheel-Steering System (전차륜 조향 장치를 장착한 굴절궤도 차량의 주행특성에 관한 연구)

  • The bi-modal tram guided by the magnetic guidance system has two car-bodies and three axles. Each axle of the vehicle has an independent suspension to lower the floor of the car and improve ride quality. The turning radius of the vehicle may increase as a consequence of the long wheel base. Therefore, the vehicle is equipped with the All-Wheel-Steering(AWS) system for safe driving on a curved road. Front and rear axles should be steered in opposite directions, which means a negative mode, to minimize the turning radius. On the other hand, they also should be steered in the same direction, which means a positive mode, for the stopping mode. Moreover, only the front axle is steered for stability of the vehicle upon high-speed driving. In summary, steering angles and directions of the each axle should be changed according to the driving environment and steering mode. This paper proposes an appropriate AWS control algorithm for stable driving of the bi-modal tram. Furthermore, a multi-body model of the vehicle is simulated to verify the suitability of the algorithm. This model can also analyze the different dynamic characteristics between 2WS and AWS.

High Crystalline Epitaxial Bi2Se3 Film on Metal and Semiconductor Substrates

  • The binary chalcogenide semiconductor Bi2Se3 is at the center of intensive research on a new state of matter known as topological insulators. It has Dirac point in their band structures with robust surface states that are protected against external perturbations by strong spin-orbit coupling with broken inversion symmetry. Such unique band configurations were confirmed by recent angle-resolved photoelectron emission spectroscopy experiments with an unwanted n-type doping effect, showing a Fermi level shift of about 0.3 eV caused by atomic defects such as Se vacancies. Since the number of defects can be reduced using the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method. We have prepared the Bi2Se3 film on noble metal Au(111) and semiconductor Si(111) substrates by MBE method. To characterize the film, we have introduced several surface sensitive techniques including x-ray photoemission electron spectroscopy (XPS) and micro Raman spectroscopy. Also, crystallinity of the film has been confirmed by x-ray diffraction (XRD). Using home-built scanning tunneling microscope, we observed the atomic structure of quintuple layered Bi2Se3 film on Au(111).

Bending strain dependence of the critical current degradation behavior in externally-reinforced Bi-2223 tapes with different hermeticity under pressurized liquid nitrogen (외부 보강된 Bi-2223테이프의 가압 $LN_2$하에서 임계전류 열화거동의 굽힘변형률 의존성)

  • The $I_c$ degradation behaviors of externally-reinforced Bi-2223 superconducting tapes under pressurized liquid nitrogen were investigated. Tapes with different thickness of reinforcement layers were compared and the results showed that when the bending strain was calculated at the outer surface, the tape with the thicker reinforcement showed a better bending strain tolerance of $I_c$, but when the bending strain was calculated at the outermost filament, the $I_c$ degradation behavior became identical for all tapes. $I_{c0}$ decreased with the increase of applied pressure. After depressurization to atmospheric pressure from 1 MPa, the $I_c$ was completely recovered to its initial values. Ballooning occurred after a thermal cycle.

Electrical Properties of Metal-Ferroelectric-Insulator-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor Using an Au/$(Bi,La)_4Ti_3O_{12}/LaZrO_x$/Si Structure

  • We fabricated the metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor filed-effect transistors (MFIS-FETs) using the $(Bi,La)_4Ti_3O_{12}\;and\;LaZrO_x$ thin films. The $LaZrO_x$ thin film had a equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) value of 8.7 nm. From the capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements for an Au/$(Bi,La)_4Ti_3O_{12}/LaZrO_x$/Si MFIS capacitor, a hysteric shift with a clockwise direction was observed and the memory window width was about 1.4 V for the bias voltage sweeping of ${\pm}9V$. From drain current-gate voltage $(I_D-V_G)$ characteristics of the fabricated Fe-FETs, the obtained threshold voltage shift (memory window) was about 1 V due to ferroelectric nature of BLT film. The drain current-drain voltage $(I_D-V_D)$ characteristics of the fabricated Fe-FETs showed typical n-channel FETs current-voltage characteristics.

Preparation of dielectric Bi4-xLaxTi3O12 (x~2) from K2La2Ti3O10 via exfoliation and restacking routes (박리화와 재적층법을 통한 K2La2Ti3O10부터 유전성 Bi4-xLaxTi3O12(x~2)의 합성)

  • We have successfully synthesized $Bi_{4-x}La_xTi_3O_{12}$ (x~2) having Aurivillius-type layered perovskite structure from exfoliated layered perovskite oxide of $K_2La_2Ti_3O_{10}$ with Ruddlesden-Popper structure. The reaction between the exfoliated lanthanum titanate nanosheets and BiOCl nanocrystal resulted in the formation of polycrystalline $Bi_{4-x}La_xTi_3O_{12}$ (x~2) after heating above $700^{\circ}C$. Colloidal suspension of the nanosheets could be obtained by intercalating ethylamine (EA) into the protonated lanthanum titanate, $H_2La_2Ti_3O_{10}$, derived from $K_2La_2Ti_3O_{10}$. Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) analysis show that the exfoliated lanthanium titanate nanosheets have a thickness of a few nano meters. According to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the exfoliated lanthanium titanate was found to be transformed into $Bi_{4-x}La_xTi_3O_{12}$ (x~2) after restacking with BiOCl and subsequent thermal treatment at > $700^{\circ}C$.

Ordinary Magnetoresistance of an Individual Single-crystalline Bi Nanowire (자발 성장법으로 성장된 단결정 Bi 단일 나노선의 정상 자기 저항 특성)

  • We report the magneto-transport properties of an individual single crystalline Bi nanowire grown by a spontaneous growth method. We have successfully fabricated a four-terminal device based on an individual 400-nm-diameter nanowire using plasma etching technique to remove an oxide layer forming on the outer surface of the nanowire. The transverse MR (2496% at 110 K) and longitudinal MR ratios (38% at 2 K) for the Bi nanowire were found to be the largest known values in Bi nanowires. This result demonstrates that the Bi nanowires grown by the spontaneous growth method are the highest-quality single crystalline in the literatures ever reported. We find that temperature dependence of Fermi energy ($E_F$) and band overlap (${\triangle}_0$) leads to the imbalance between electron concentration ($n_e$) and hole concentration ($n_h$) in the Bi nanowire, which is good agreement with the calculated $n_e\;and\;n_h$ from the respective density of states, N(E), for electrons and holes. We also find that the imbalance of $n_e\;and\;n_h$ plays a crucial role in determining magnetoresistance (MR) at T<75 K for $R_T$ and at T<205 K for $R_L$, while mean-free path is responsible for MR at T>75 K for $R_T$ and T>205 K for $R_L$.

Clinical Factors Influencing the Trial and Purchase of Bilateral Microphones with Contralateral Routing of Signal in Patients with Asymmetric Sensorineural Hearing Loss

  • Background and Objectives: Bilateral microphones with contralateral routing of signal (BiCROS) hearing aid is an option for hearing rehabilitation in individuals with asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss (ASNHL). The clinical factors influencing the trial and purchase of BiCROS were investigated. Subjects and Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 78 patients with ASNHL who were recommended to use BiCROS and analyzed the demographic and audiological factors influencing the trial and purchase of BiCROS. Results: Among the 78 patients, 52 (66.7%) availed of the free BiCROS trial and 21 (26.9%) purchased BiCROS. The mean pure tone audiometry (PTA) air conduction (AC) threshold of the better- and worse-hearing ears were 44.2±12.8 dB and 90.7±22.5 dB HL, respectively. The decision for trial or purchase of BiCROS was not influenced by age, sex, duration of hearing loss of the worse-hearing ear, or PTA AC threshold or speech discrimination score of both ears. The first and third quartiles of the PTA AC thresholds for the better-hearing ear of BiCROS buyers were 38.75 dB and 53.75 dB HL, respectively. The counterpart values for the worse-hearing ear were 72.50 dB and 118.75 dB HL, respectively. Conclusions: The clinical factors analyzed in this study were found to be irrelevant to the trial and purchase of BiCROS in patients with ASNHL. Nevertheless, the distribution range of the auditory thresholds of the subjects using BiCROS can be a useful basis for the counseling of patients with ASNHL and selection of candidates for BiCROS use.
