  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinematics of the women's triple jump event at the 2011 Daegu World a Chmpionships by comparing them to those of the 2009 Berlin World Championships. The kinematic data were gathered from two steps before take off to the landing using a 7-camera panorama system. The data were then divided into 3 phases for each of the 8 participants. Similar average results were found the final contestants in the Daegu and Berlin championships, 14.58 m and 14.51 m, respectively. The first step had a relatively short length percentage (29%) compared to the hop and jump (36% and 35%, respectively). At the take off, the horizontal velocity was the lowest for the step, followed by the hop and jump. These results were different from the results for the men, who had an order of hop, step, and jump. Overall, in a comparison of the Daegu and Berlin participants, the vertical speed at take off for the three events was reduced compared to the horizontal speed.

  • This study conducted an experimental investigation on oscillatory behavior of the hydraulic jump roller. Based on the similarity of the hydraulic jump and tidal bore, the behavior of the front face of hydraulic jump with increasing downstream water depth was studied focusing on profile and fluctuation. In this study, for statistical approach, the ensemble averaging was applied to obtain relevant front profile and compared with the time averaging. The front profile gets mildly sloped and the fluctuation of the starting point of hydraulic jump decreases as the downstream water depth increases.

  • In order to examine the generation mechanism of long ocean waves along the west coast of Korea and to understand the amplification process of the long ocean waves, sea level, atmospheric pressure and wind data observed every minute from 2007 March 29 to 2007 April 1 were analyzed and onedimensional numerical ocean model experiments were performed. An atmospheric pressure jump propagated southeastward from Backryungdo to Yeonggwang along the west coast of Korea with speed of $13{\sim}27\;m/s$ between 2007 March 30 23:00 and 2007 April 1 1:30. Average magnitude of pressure jump was 4.2 hPa. As a moving atmospheric jump propagated from north to south along the coast, long ocean waves were generated and the sea level abnormally rose or fell at Anheung, Kunsan, Wido and Yeonggwang. Average amplitude of sea level rise (or fall) was about 113.6 cm. In a one-dimensional numerical ocean model, nonlinear shallow water equations were numerically integrated and a moving atmospheric pressure jump with traveling speed of 24 m/s was used as an external force. While the atmospheric pressure jump travels over 60 m depth ocean, a long ocean wave is generated. Because the propagation speed of the atmospheric jump is almost equal to that of the long ocean wave, Proudman resonance occurs and the long ocean wave amplifies. As the atmospheric pressure jump moves into the coastal area shallower than 60 m, the speed of the long ocean wave decreases and Proudman resonance effect decreases. However, the amplitude of the long ocean wave increases and wave length becomes shorter because of shoaling effect. When the long ocean wave hits the land boundary, amplitude of the long ocean wave drastically amplifies due to reflection. Data analysis and numerical experiments suggest that the southeastward propagation of an atmospheric pressure jump over the shallow ocean, which is a necessary condition for Proudaman resonance, generated the long ocean waves along the west coast of Korea on 2007 March 31 and the ocean waves amplified due to shoaling effect in the coastal area and reflection at the shore.

  • The concept of jump concerns the distribution of $Tur{\acute{a}}n$ densities. A number ${\alpha}\;{\in}\;[0,1)$ is a jump for r if there exists a constant c > 0 such that if the $Tur{\acute{a}}n$ density of a family $\mathfrak{F}$ of r-uniform graphs is greater than ${\alpha}$, then the $Tur{\acute{a}}n$ density of $\mathfrak{F}$ is at least ${\alpha}+c$. To determine whether a number is a jump or non-jump has been a challenging problem in extremal hypergraph theory. In this paper, we give a way to generate non-jumps for hypergraphs. We show that if ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ are non-jumps for $r_1$, $r_2{\geq}2$ respectively, then $\frac{{\alpha}{\beta}(r_1+r_2)!r_1^{r_1}r_2^{r_2}}{r_1!r_2!(r_1+R_2)^{r_1+r_2}}$ is a non-jump for $r_1+r_2$. We also apply the Lagrangian method to determine the $Tur{\acute{a}}n$ density of the extension of the (r - 3)-fold enlargement of a 3-uniform matching.

  • Objective: This study examined differences in joint kinematics and movement variability of lower extremity between adolescent athletes with and without lateral ankle sprain (LAS) history during drop vertical jump. Method: Fourteen adolescent athletes with LAS history and 14 controls participated in this study. The independent variable was group while dependent variables were 3D joint kinematics and movement variability of hip, knee, and ankle joint. Ensemble curve analyses were conducted to identify differences in movement strategies between two groups. Results: The LAS group showed that greater eversion during jump phase compared with the control group. Additionally, less movement variability was found in the LAS group during the pre-landing and jump phases in ankle and hip joints compared with the control group. Conclusion: The LAS group may adapt the environmental constraints by reducing the movement variability in ankle and hip joints. However, training programs focusing on recovery of ankle function should be emphasized after LAS because excessive pronation for prevention of LAS during the jump phase may result in reduced performance.
