Combining Different Distance Measurements Methods with Dempster-Shafer-Theory for Recognition of Urdu Character Script

  • In this paper we discussed a new methodology for Urdu Character Recognition system using Dempster-Shafer theory which can powerfully estimate the similarity ratings between a recognized character and sampling characters in the character database. Recognition of character is done by five probability calculation methods such as (similarity, hamming, linear correlation, cross-correlation, nearest neighbor) with Dempster-Shafer theory of belief functions. The main objective of this paper is to Recognition of Urdu letters and numerals through five similarity and dissimilarity algorithms to find the similarity between the given image and the standard template in the character recognition system. In this paper we develop a method to combine the results of the different distance measurement methods using the Dempster-Shafer theory. This idea enables us to obtain a single precision result. It was observed that the combination of these results ultimately enhanced the success rate.

From JIT to the introduction of a CIM supported by human based systems

  • Japanese manufacturers have seen the market swing from a sellers' market to a buyers' market by dint of changes in the economic environment. Therefore, they have found the need to establish a production system in which products can be manufactured at the speed at which they are being sold and which achieve a competitive advantage. FA activity in Japan today has begun to change from local automation to totally integrated automation. This paper introduces a bottom to top based JIT-FA system and describes how to approach and introduce a CIM supported by human based systems. A fully automated CIM system is not only flexible but also rigid. However we can realize a flexible production line system by partially introducing human based systems including a decision support system.

  • The Japanese "Just-In-Time" technique reduces inventory and unnecessary factors. This technique makes the success of Japanese firms, therefore many Korean firms try to apply it to their situation. But the technique doesn't bare the same success in Korean firms. This paper, therefore, considers the different situations between Korean rim and Japanese firm, then simulates the Pull system and Push system for a multiline, multistage production system. This paper drives the different results of simulation according to variable processing times, variable demand, set-up time and shortages in Pull system and Push system using GPSS. The results show that the performance of Pull system is lower than Push system's in variable master production scheduling and variable processing times.ing times.

  • Setup Time Reduction is an important aspect of the Just-in-Time(JIT) and Zero Inventory(Zl) Concepts since it supports reductions in manufacturing lead times and inventories. It also enables small lot sizes and kanban systems implementation for material flow - achieving major improvements in production floor management. One concept fundamental to the pursuit of JIT production in Japan and other countries is adoption of a setup time reduction. This paper looks at the necessities of setup time reduction and the relations to machine utilization. By using an EOQ model for evaluate the effect of setup time reduction, we get the results that over 75 % reduction in setup time is obtain the desired results in the lot size reduction.

JIT 상황하에서 다품종 조립라인 작업물 투입 순서 결정 방안 (Sequencing for a mixed model assembly line in just-in-time production system)

  • In mixed model assembly lines, products are assembled seqeuntially that have different combination of options specified by customers. In just in time (JIT) environment, production smoothing becomes an important issue for sub-lines which supply the necessary parts to each workstation of the assembly line. Another important issue is to avoid line stopping caused by work overload in workstations. To find a sequence which minimizes the costs associated with line stoppage and the option parts inventory level, a nonlinear mixed integer programming is formulated. Recognizing the limit of the Branch and Bound technique in large sized problems, a heuristic solution procedure is proposed. The performance of the heuristic is compared with the Branch and Bound technique through randomly generated test problems. The computational results indicate that on the average the heuristic solutions deviate approximately 3.6% from the optimal solutions.

  • In case of domestic automobile manufacturers introduce and run a order production method, JIT system is to provide a necessary number of components for a right place timely which is a specific supply chain management is different from other occupations. This study is for establishing a efficient production planning and finding a management method to correspond with a manufacturing system and diversified supply chain management and building an information system to support it. For this, analyze the relevant business process and utilize various informations occur in supply chain of domestic automobile components manufacturer. It will contribute to not only reliability improvement of production management system but also satisfaction for due date of products.

  • This paper considers the sequencing of products in mixed model assembly lines under Just-In-Time (JIT) systems. Under JIT systems, the most important goal for the sequencing problem is to keep a constant rate of usage every part used by the systems. The sequencing problem is solved using Genetic Algorithm Genetic Algorithm is a heuristic method which can provide a near optimal solution in real time. The performance of proposed technique is compared with existing heuristic methods in terms of solution quality. Various examples are presented and experimental results are reported to demonstrate the efficiency of the technique.

JIT구매를 고려한 단일 제조업자-다소매업자의 공급사슬에서 통합재고모형 (Generalized Single Manufacturer and Multiple Retailers Supply Chain Model in JIT Purchasing)

  • In this paper, we investigate an inventory system where a single manufacturer purchases and processes raw materials in order to deliver finished goods to multiple retailers. Earlier study in this type of supply chain only consider a single raw material in order to produce finished goods, but we consider multi-raw materials in order to produce finished goods. Also, we develop an iterative solution procedure to find the order quantity for the finished goods and raw materials, and the number of shipments between manufacturer and retailers that minimizes the total cost per unit time of the raw materials ordering and holding, manufacture's setup and finished goods holding, the retailer's ordering and inventory holding. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate that jointly considering the total cost results in less total cost than that of considering them separately.
