  • In this paper, we present a new measure to evaluate the interestingness of association rules. Ultimately. to evaluate whether a rule is interesting or not is subjective. However, an interestingness measure is useful in that it shows the cause for pruning uninteresting rules statistically or logically. Some interestingness measures have been developed in association rules mining. We present an overview of interestingness measures and propose a new measure. A comparative study of some interestingness measures is made on an example dataset and a real dataset. Our experiments show that the new measure can avoid the discovery of misleading rules.

  • Propagation characteristics of tribrachial flames have been studied numerically in a two-dimensional fuel/oxidizer mixing layer. A flame is initiated by imposing a high temperature ignition source. Subsequent propagation of a tribrachial flame is traced. The flow redirection effect at the leading edge of a tribrachial flame increases the propagation speed beyond the corresponding stoichiometric laminar burning velocity. The effect of mixture fraction gradient on the propagation speed of a tribrachial flame is analyzed in a mixing layer considering that mixture fraction gradient increases as a tribrachial flame propagates toward upstream. As the flame curvature at the leading edge increases with decreasing mixture fraction gradient, the flow redirection effect becomes more pronounced on the flame propagation speed. As a result, the propagation speed of a tribrachial flame increases with decreasing mixture fraction gradient.

  • The balance shaft housing in the recent engines tends to have the high cycle fatigue crack caused by increased engine power. In this paper, a CAE procedure is introduced to predict the durability of the balance shaft housing. The procedure is performed through two analysis steps. In the first step, the multibody dynamic simulation is used to obtain more accurate loading boundary conditions applied to the finite element model for the following step. Next, the finite element analysis is performed to predict the durability of the balance shaft housing through the calculation of the safety factor. Through this CAE procedure, the revised balance shaft housing was developed to improve the durability. And the durability of the housing was confirmed experimentally.

  • The cows manure has been used as fertilizers in farmland because of enough nutrients. However, excess nutrients can be washed off during a storm and affected on nearby waterbodies. In this paper, the runoff characteristics from farmland were studied to determine the watershed runoff rate. As results of estimating, watershed runoff rates with short-term runoff are BOD 0.6%, CODcr 0.3 %, CODMn 0.1 %, T-N 0.8 % and T-P 1.0 % On the other hand, they with long-term runoff are BOD 3.6 %, CODcr 1.0 %, CODMn 0.9 %, T-N 4.9 % and T-P 4.8 %. It is clean that the watershed runoff rates increase according to the rainfall runoff time.

  • Isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO) is a promising dietary component with prebiotic effect, and the long-chain IMOs are preferred to short chain ones owing to the longer persistence in the colon. To establish the optimal process for synthesis of long-chain IMOs, we systematically examined the reaction condition of dextransucrase of Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-512F by changing the ratio of sucrose to maltose (varying as 1:4, 1:2, 1:1, and 2:1) and amount of each sugar (from 2% to 20%). As a result, a ratio of 2:1 (sucrose to maltose, 10:5% or 20:10%, w/v) was determined as an optimal condition for long-chain IMO synthesis (DP3-DP9) with relatively higher yields (70-90%, respectively).

  • Acoustic characteristics of baffled combustion chamber to elucidate suppressing effect of baffle on combustion instability are numerically investigated by linear acoustic analysis. A hub-blade baffle of 5 blades is selected as a candidate one and five variants of baffles with various configuration are designed. Resonant-frequency shift and damping factor are analyzed quantitatively as damping parameters. When the hub is located radially at the pressure node, the decrease of resonant frequency and increase of damping factor in 1R mode are dominant. But sub-1T mode is formed within hub, therefore, there would be a possibility of initiating 1T mode in unbaffled region, which would occur another problem. For smaller hub size, four kinds of axial baffle length is selected. As the axial baffle length increases, resonant frequency shift and increase of damping factor of transverse acoustic modes is obtained. Especially, two close acoustic modes such as 1L and 1T could be overlapped for a certain axial length, resulting in extreme increase of damping factor. The present study based on linear acoustic analysis is expected to be a useful confirming tool to predict acoustic field and design a passive control devices such as baffle and acoustic cavity.

  • In the regeneratively cooled combustion chambers using hydrocarbon fuels, coking occurs as the wall temperature increases which generates compounds deposition on the wall. This phenomenon reduces cooling capability of the coolant, finally it can cause damage to combustor by overheating of chamber wall. In this paper electrical heating equipment which is used for the coking experiments and the test results are introduced. The compatibilities of copper alloy with let A-1 were assessed at each condition based on the test results.

  • Microalga, Spirulina platensis has been cultivated in a pilot scale photo-bioreactor to treat wastewater and to produce high protein feedstocks from swine waste containing medium. 0.31(1/day) of specific growth rate and 0.170 of bioenergeric yield were obtanined from batch cultivation in 30% waster containing medium, compared to 0.71(1/day) and 0.545 from clean culture. An optimal dilution concentration was decided as 20% of working volume, based upon the cell growth and biomass productivity. The removal rate of nitrates in the wastewater was decreased as the adding concentration of wastewater was increased while the decrease of total phosphates was reversed, showing 0.33(1/day) and 0.30(1/day) of rate constants for nitrate removal in 10% addition and for phosphate removal in 30% addition, respectively. The chemical composition and amino acid profile of the biomass were superior to those of commerically available health food product, Spirulina sp.

  • It was proved that the cell growth followed a photo-inhibition model in light-limited turbidostat cultivation, having 1.06 (1/h) of maximum specific growth rate and 0.00094(kcal/$cm^2$/h) and 0.063 (kcal/$cm^2$/h) as half saturation and light inhibition constants, repectively. ${\beta}$-carotene production showed a growth related porcess. And the activation energy of Dunaliella salina was roughly estimated as 12.36 (kcal/mole) in employing Arrhenius relationship. It should also point out that relatively much porduction of ${\beta}$-carotene was observed at hight light intensity with yieding 1.04 (mg-carotene/g-dry cell/day) of specific product production rate while the cell growth was decreased. The optimal conditions of producing ${\beta}$-carotene in turbiodostat cultivation were as follows: $7.5{\times}10^{-3}$(kcal/$cm^2$/h)of light intensity, 2 (mM) and 50(mM) of nitrate and sodium bicarbonate concentrations and 100(ml/h) of $CO_2$ flow rate.

  • This study aims to analyze the relations among greenbelt, urban land surface temperature empirically in order to assess the environmental effects of the greenbelt in the Seoul metropolitan area, objectively. For this purpose, this study conducts an empirical analysis of impacts of greenbelt on urban land surface temperature using a multiple-regression model. The main data employed in the analysis include real-time air pollution data, Landsat 8-OLI Landsat imagery data, KLIS data and Jip-gye-gu data. The major findings are summarized as follows. NDVI has a negative (-) correlation with the land surface temperature, and the urban temperature is high in areas with poor vegetation. The land surface temperature is low in residential or commercial areas, while the temperature is high in industrial areas. The temperature is low in green fields, open spaces, and river areas. it is found that the urban land surface temperature is low in the greenbelt zone. In the greenbelt zone, there is an effect that reduces the land surface temperature by 1% on average, as compared to that at the center of the Seoul metropolitan area. Especially, the center of the Seoul metropolitan area, in a range from 0.6% to 1.9% of the average temperature, the temperature gets lower up to approximately 3km from the greenbelt boundary.
