  • Purpose: Thumb reconstruction plays most important role in hand injuries because total loss of a thumb constitutes about 40% disability in the hand. The reconstruction can be accomplished by pollicization, free toe-to-thumb transfer, wrap around procedure and lengthening extraction. However, we sometimes need consecutive or double free flaps in the reconstruction of mutilating hand injuries. Methods: We reconstructed a mutilating hand injury in a 54-years old man. Because of severe crushing injury of right thumb and index fingers, we reconstructed a thumb with pollicization using nearly amputated middle finger. Although it survived completely, the adjacent soft tissues which had been covered by fillet flap from the space past was necrosed on 1 month. We debrided the necrotic tissues and covered it with anteromedial thigh perforator free flap consecutively because he had an anatomical variation in branches of lateral femoral circumflex artery. Results: He had an uneventful postoperative course without any complication such as infection, dehiscence and flap necrosis. Three months later, he had undergone tenolysis and defatting procedure of flap site. He recovered the some amount of grip function and was happy with the result. Conclusion: In severe hand trauma including thumb amputation, thumb reconstruction using pollicization and perforator free flap could be an alternative option. It provides minimal donor site morbidity and an acceptable functional result.

  • Lightweight concrete is known for its advantage of reducing the self-weight of the structures, reducing the areas of sectional members as well as making the construction convenient. Thus the construction cost can be saved when applied to structures such as long-span bridge and high rise building. However, the lightweight concrete requires specific mix design method that is quite different from the typical concrete, since using the typical mix method would give rise the material segregation as well as lower the strength by the reduced weight of the aggregate. In order to avoid such problems, it is recommended to apply the mix design method of self-consolidating concrete for the lightweight concrete. Therefore experimental tests were performed as such mechanical properties(compressive strength, dry density and structural efficiency) of concrete and dry shrinkage according to ACI committee 209.

  • This study has focused on the possibility for recycling tailings from the Sangdong tungsten mine (TA) as admixture for concrete. TA has been accumulating for several decades in Sangdong, a region in Korea, and there is a growing demand for alternative uses for this hazardous substance. In particular, the use must be in accordance with the hazardous materials stipulations under the Korean waste control act. This study showed that TA presented pH of 8.0-9.3, 18.7-22.0% of water content, 2.7% of maximum ignition loss. The chemical composition of TA showed minute differences from each depth of sampling that represented approximately 50% of $SiO_2$ and 13% of both $Al_2O_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$. The chemical composition of Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb from mortar incorporating TA showed lower levels of hazardous materials which met the specifications of the waste control act in Korea. The TA mortar also appeared very effective for stabilizing/solidifying heavy metals particularly when used in conjunction with SG.

  • A cast stainless steel may experience an embrittlement when it is exposed to approximately 30$0^{\circ}C$ for long period. In the present investigation, The three classes of the thermally aged CF8M specimie n are prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method. Namely, after the specimen are held for 300, 1800 and 3600hrs. at 43$0^{\circ}C$ respectively, the specimens are quenched in water to room temperature. Load versus load line displacement curves and J-R curves are obtained using the unloading compliance method. $J_{IC}$ values are obtained following ASTM E 813-87 and ASTM E 813-81 methods. In addition to these methods, JIC values are obtained using SZW(stretch zone width) method described in JSME S 001-1981. The results of the unloading compliance method are $J_Q$=485.7 kJ/m$^2$ for virgin material, $J_{IC}$ of the degraded materials associated with 300, 1800 and 3600hrs are obtained 369.25 kJ/m$^2$, 311.02 kJ/m$^2$, 276.7 kJ/m$^2$, respectively. The results of SZW method are similar to those of the unloading compliance method. Through the elastic-plastic fracture toughness test, it is found that the value of $J_{IC}$ is decreased with increasing of the aging time. The results obtained through the investigation can provide reference data for a leak before break(LBB) of reactor coolant system of nuclear power plants.

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship among gender role conflict, military service planing and major satisfaction of male nursing students. Data were collected from October to December, 2018 and a total of 159 male nursing students participated in this study. The results showed that the gender role conflict was 2.75±0.62, the military service planing was 4.99±1.30, and the major satisfaction was 3.90±0.58. Gender role conflict, military service planing and major satisfaction have no significant correlation. This is inconsistent with the preceding study and requires replication study. Also it is necessary to develop an arbitration program that can form positive relationships with girls in order to reduce gender role conflict among male nursing students.

  • Mouse embryonic stem cell could show an substitutional materials of cells of neuron differentiation, positively increasing their effectiveness in the treatment of nervous symptom. We examined that mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) can be induced to undergo neuronal differentiation. After neuronal induction, the phenotype of mESCs changed towards neuronal morphology and mESCs were injected into the lateral ventricle of the experimental animal brain. Transplanted cells migrated to various parts of the brain and ischemic brain injury by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) increased their migration to the injured cortex. Intracerebral grafting of mESCs mostly improve sensory and motor nervous system of neurological injury in focal cerebral rats.

  • With the growing number of people using bicycle, the number of bicycle accidents also has been increasing. It is said that bicycle accident can be reduced up to 11%~44% when riding a bicycle if LED light is used. The headlight of the bicycle makes exposure effect to the opposite side of bike rider while taillight makes exposure effect to the rear bike rider for improving safety. Bicycle safety device capable of displaying a change of direction by LED is implemented in this study in response to control button signal. This signal makes LED light which is installed in pedal and wheel of bicycle as a module type emitting or flickering during the fixed hour. Bicycle auxiliary device in pedal which is able to improve safety using LED when bikers are riding a bike at night is developed in this study. Bicycle safety device applying wireless communication technology will be expected alternative technology in the future to solve a social problem such as energy, environment, and safety.

  • In infrastructure wireless mesh networks (WMNs), in order to improve mobile users' satisfaction for the given cache hit ratio, we investigate an User centric Cache Allocation (UCA) scheme while reducing cache cost in a mesh router (MR) and expected transmission time (ETT) for content search in cache. To minimize ETT values of mobile users, a genetic algorithm based UCA (GA-UCA) scheme is provided. The goal is to maximize mobile users' satisfaction via our well defined utility, which considers content popularity and the number of mobile users. Finally, through solving optimization problem we show the optimal cache can be allocated for UCA and GA-UCA. Besides, a WMN provider can find the optimal number of mobile users for user centric cache allocation in infrastructure WMNs.
