  • This paper describes the development of the rapid battery charger for lead-acid battery. Due to heat which is caused by increased internal resistance during charging, it is difficult to increase charging current for the lead-acid battery. In this paper, the rapid charging algorithm which apply short discharging pulse current during charging procedure is developed and it makes the ion layer, which is generated during charging time, disappeared into electrolyte. The prototype battery charger based on resonant converter is developed for 48V battery charger and test procedure is introduced.

  • Piezoelectric characteristics of lead zirconate(PZ)-lead titanate(PT)-lead manganese antimony(PMS) ceramics with the various changes of calcination temperature in PMS were prepared. The range of their sintering temperature was from $1100^{\circ}C$ to $1250^{\circ}C$. The electro-mechanical properties of PZ-PT-PMS ceramics such as piezoelectric constant, electro-mechanical coupling coefficient, and mechanical quality factor are measured as a function of the calcination temperature of PMS. As increasing the calcination temperature of PMS mechanical quality factor is increased.

  • Lead-based fast reactor (LFR) has become one of the most promising reactors for Generation IV nuclear systems. A developing trend of LFR is high efficiency, along with operation temperatures up to 800 ℃ or even higher. One of key issues in the high-efficiency LFR is corrosion of cladding materials with lead at high temperatures. In this study, corrosion behavior of some refractory metals (Nb, Nb521, and Mo-0.5La) was investigated in static lead at 1000 ℃ for 1000 h. The results showed that Nb and Nb521 exhibited an intense dissolution corrosion with obvious lead penetration after corrosion, and lead penetration extended along the grain boundaries of the specimens. Furthermore, Nb521 showed a better corrosion resistance than that of Nb as a result of the elements of W and Mo included in Nb521. Mo-0.5La showed much better corrosion resistance than that of Nb and Nb521, and no lead penetration could be observed. However, an etched morphology appeared on the surface of Mo-0.5La, indicating the occurrence of corrosion to a certain degree. The results indicate that Mo-0.5La is compatible with lead up to 1000 ℃. While Nb and Nb alloys might be not compatible with lead for high-efficiency LFR at such high temperatures.

  • The stability constants of lead acetato conplexes were evaluated in various ionic strengths (2.00, 1.00, and 0.75), and at various temperature (15, 20, 25, 30, and $35^{\circ}C$), respectively, by the polarographic and potentiometric method of which Hume and Leden had described. The existence of three complex ions, $PbAc^+$, $PbAc_2$, and $PbAc_3^-$ have been shown in the range of concentration of 0~0.8 mole acetate ion. Referring to values obtained, we have derived the following empirical formula with the stability constant (Kijk), ternperature (Tk) and ionic strength (${\mu}j$). log Kijk = (Ai/${\mu}j^3$+ Bi) / Tk + Ci/${\mu}j^3$ + Di . The deduced and observed stability constants are matched in 5% for the K, and $K_3$, and 20% for the $K_2$.

  • 2D and 3D ultrasonic imaging has so far not been demonstrated in pure molten lead in the open literature. In this study the development of such an ultrasonic device for imaging is outlined and results from testing at 380 ℃ in lead are presented. The main difficulties were found to be achieving then maintaining suitable wetting while ensuring suitable durability of the device, both due to the harsh nature of molten lead and the elevated temperatures. The successful detection and imaging (2D and 3D), of differently shaped targets, where the features were above the size of the transmitted ultrasound beam was demonstrated.

  • Long lengths (<100m) of BSCCO 2223 tapes were fabricated of optimal process. We have I$_c$${\sim}$22A, J$_c$${\sim}$22,000A/cm$^2$(77K, 0T) at last heat treatment, and then prototype 1000A class current lead (length ${\sim}$50cm) fur HTS applications was fabricated using these tapes. Surface of current lead except both end part (${\sim}$1cm) was clothing with fiber glass. Also the transportation properties and thermal loss was studied on prototype 1000A class current lead.

  • High-temperature superconducting (HTS) rotating machines always require an electric current of from several hundreds to several thousand amperes to be led from outside into cold region of the field coil. Heat losses through the current leads then assume tremendous importance. Consequently, it is necessary to acquire optimal design for the leads which would achieve minimum heat loss during operation of machines for a given electrical current. In this paper, conduction cooled current lead type of 10 MW-Class HTS rotating machine will be chosen, a conceptual design will be discussed and performed relied on the least heat lost estimation between conventional metal lead and partially HTS lead. In addition, steady-state thermal characteristic of each one also is considered and illustrated.

  • Since the 1960s, semiconductor packaging technology has developed into electrical joining techniques using lead frames or C4 bumps using tin-lead solder compositions based on traditional reflow processes. To meet the demands of a highly integrated semiconductor device, high reliability, high productivity, and an eco-friendly simplified process, packaging technology was required to use new materials and processes such as lead-free solder, epoxy-based non cleaning interconnection material, and laser based high-speed processes. For next generation semiconductor packaging, the study status of two epoxy-based interconnection materials such as fluxing and hybrid underfills along with a laser-assisted bonding process were introduced for fine pitch semiconductor applications. The fluxing underfill is a solvent-free and non-washing epoxy-based material, which combines the underfill role and fluxing function of the Surface Mounting Technology (SMT) process. The hybrid underfill is a mixture of the above fluxing underfill and lead-free solder powder. For low-heat-resistant substrate applications such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high productivity, laser-assisted bonding technology is introduced with two epoxy-based underfill materials. Fluxing and hybrid underfills as next-generation semiconductor packaging materials along with laser-assisted bonding as a new process are expected to play an active role in next-generation large displays and Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) markets.

  • Williams, M K., King, E., and Walford, Joan (1969). Brit. J. industr. Med., 26, 202-216. An investigation of lead absorption in an electric accumulator factory with the use of personal samplers. Thirty-nine lead workers and controls, in stable conditions of exposure, each wore personal lead-in-air samplers daily for two weeks. During the second week samples for blood lead, urinary lead, urinary coproporphyrin, urinary $\gamma$-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), the punctate basophil count, and haemoglobin were taken daily. Duplicate estimations were made on one day. The lead exposures of men doing almost identical jobs differed by ratios of up to four to one. This could be attributed on y to personal differences in working habits. The correlation coefficients and regression equations of the biochemical tests with lead-in-air and with each other were determined. The mean values and $95\%$ confidence limits of single determinations of some of the biochemical tests corresponding to the two commonly accepted TLVs of lead-in-air (0-20 and 0-15 mg./$m^{3}$) were calculated from the regression equations. For each biochemical test the variation due to analytical error, the variation from day to day within subjects and the residual variation about the regression on lead-in-air were calculated. Previous estimates of the latter are not known. Excessive confidence may be placed in an index of exposure due to its low coefficient of variation within subjects unless the coefficient of variation between subjects about regression is taken into account. The correction for specific gravity of estimations of lead and ALA in spot samples of urine was found to reduce slightly the residual variation between subjects about the regression on lead-in-air and to increase the correlations with lead-in-air and with the other biochemical tests, but these changes were not statistically significant. The modified method used for estimating blood lead and urinary lead is described and validated.
