In the present paper, flow characteristics and free surface waves generated by a submerged hydrofoil advancing with an uniform speed are calculated. Using a numerical method based on a MAC(Marker And Cell) method, the Navier-Stokes and the continuity equations are solved to simulate flow fields around the hydrofoil. Computations are carried out in a rectangular grid system in which grids are concentrated near the foil and the free surface to improve numerical accuracies. Viscous flow phenomenas including pressure distributions are computed. Moreover, the influences of submerged depths upon the generated wave profiles and the wave breaking phenomena are also investigated. Experiments are performed at the towing tank of Inha University to measure free surface wave elevations due to the advancing hydrofoil. The computational results are compared with the present and the other available experimental data to show the accuracy of the numerical method developed.
In the present study, two phase flows around a projectile vertically launched from an underwater platform have been numerically investigated by using a three dimensional multi-phase RANS flow solver based on pseudo-compressibility and a homogeneous mixture model on unstructured meshes. The relative motion between the platform and projectile was described by six degrees of freedom equations of motion with Euler angles and a chimera technique. The propulsive power of the projectile was modeled as the fluid force acting on the lower surface of the body by the compressed air emitted from the underwater platform. Various flow conditions were considered to analyze the fluid-dynamics motion parameters of the projectile. The water level of platform and the current speed around the projectile were the main parametric variables. The numerical calculations were conducted up to 0.75sec in physical time scale. The dynamics tendency of the projectile was almost identical with respect to the water level variation due to the constant buoyancy term. The moving speed of the projectile along the vertical axis inside the platform decreased when the current speed increased. This is because the inflow from outside of the platform impeded development of the compressed air emitted from the floor surface of the launch platform. As a result, the fluid force acting on the lower surface of the projectile decreased, and injection time of the projectile from the platform was delayed.
In this paper a hybrid grid generation program for general 2-D region is introduced. The program is developed by using JAVA programming language, and it can be used either as an application program on a local computer or as an applet in the network environment. The hybrid grid system for a 2-D problem means a combination of triangular cells and quadrilateral cells, and it can offer both of the high flexibility of triangular cells and the high accuracy and efficiency of structured-type quadrilateral cells. To accommodate a quadrilateral-cell region and a triangular-cell region into one computational domain, it is importance to take good care of the interface between two different regions so that overall good grid quality can be maintained. In this research advancing layer method(ALM) augmented by elliptic smoothing method is used for the quadrilateral-cell region and advancing front method(AFM) is used for the triangular-cell region. A special treatment technique for the interface between those two regions is also developed. The interface treatment technique is basically to prevent the propagation of small cell size due to ALM method into the triangular region and maintain the smooth transition of cell-size scale between two different regions. By applying current technique high-quality hybrid grids for general 2-D regions can be easily generated, and typical grid generation results and flow solutions are demonstrated.

A remeshing algorithm using tetrahedral elements has been developed, which is adapted to the mesh density map constructed by a posteriori error estimation. In the finite element analyses of metal forging processes, numerical error increases as deformation proceeds due to severe distortion of elements. In order to reduce the numerical error, the desired mesh sizes in each region of the workpiece are calculated by a posteriori error estimation and the density map is constructed. Piecewise density functions are then constructed with the radial basis function in order to interpolate the discrete data of the density map. The sample mesh is constructed based on the point insertion technique which is adapted to the density function and the mesh size is controlled by moving and deleting nodes to obtain optimal distribution according to the mesh density function and the quality optimization function as well. After finishing the redistribution process of nodes, a tetrahedral mesh is constructed with the redistributed nodes, which is adapted to the density map and resulting in good mesh quality. A goodness and adaptability of the constructed mesh is verified with a testing measure. The proposed remeshing technique is applied to the finite element analyses of forging processes.
The recycle of PWR spent fuels in a CANDU reactor, so called the tandem fuel cycle is Investigated in this study. This scheme of utilizing Pm spent fuels will ease the shortage of spent fuel storage capacity as well as will improve the use of uranium resources. The minimum modification to the design of present CANDU reactor is seeked in the recycle. Nine different fuel types are considered in this work and are classified into two categories: refabrication and reconfiguration For refabrication, PWR spent fuels are processed and refabricated into the present 37 rod lattice structure of fuel bundle, and for reconfiguration, meanwhile, spent fuels are simply disassembled and rods are cut to fit into the present grid configuration of fuel bundle without refabrication. For each fuel option, the neutronics calculation of lattice was conducted to evaluate the allowable burnup and power distribution. The fuel cycle cost of each option was also computed to assess the economic justification. The result show that most tandem fuel cycle options considered in this study are technically feasible as well as economically viable.
We investigated the magnetism and electronic structures for the layered structures consisting of (110) layers of zinc-blende CrAs and MnAs. We calculated the electronic structures for $(CrAs)_3(MnAs)_3(110)$ superlattice consisted of alternating three layers of CrAs(110) and MnAs(110) by the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method. The calculated magnetic moment of Cr in interface layer ($3.07\;\mu_B$) was slightly larger than that of Cr atom in center layer ($3.06\;\mu_B$), while that of interface Mn atom ($3.74\;\mu_B$) was slightly smaller than the value of Mn atom in center layer ($3.76\;\mu_B$). The electronic structure and half-metallicity in this superlattice were discussed using the calculated density of states.

A Hg(0.79)Cd(0.21)Te single crystal has been grown by the Traveling Heater Method(THM). Its zinc blend cubic structure is identified from the X-ray diffraction patterns and its lattice constant is determined to be $6.464 {\AA}$ using the least-square method of Cohen. From the values of the lattice constant, the composition x is determined to be 0.21. The electron density is calculated from the relative intensities of the scattered X-ray and compared with the theoretically calculated values. From the electron density distribution, it is shown that the crystal binding of Hg(1-x)Cd(x)Te(MCT) is mainly covalent and has tetrahedron bonds between adjacent atoms.
This paper presents a two-dimensional edge tone to predict the frequency characteristics of the discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM). We use a new lattice BGK compressible fluid model that has an additional term and allow larger time increment comparing the conventional FDLBM, and also use a boundary fitted coordinates. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guarantee the parabolic velocity profile of the jet at the outlet, and the edge consists of a wedge with an angle of $\alpha=23^0$. At a stand-off distance $\omega$, the edge is inserted along the centreline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave with real frequency f is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle and th propagate towards the downstream. We have succeeded in capturing very small pressure fluctuations result from periodically oscillation of jet around the edge. That pressure fluctuations propagate with the sound speed. Its interaction with the wedge produces an irrotational feedback field which, near the nozzle exit, is a periodic transverse flow producing the singularities at the nozzle lips. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be one of powerful tool for computing sound generation and propagation for a wide range of flows.
The General roles of a spacer grid(SG) are providing a lateral and vertical support for fuel rods, promoting a mixing of coolant and keeping guide tubes straight so as not to impede a control rod insertion under any normal or accidental conditions. To evaluate the impact characteristics of a SG such as impact velocity, critical buckling strength and duration time, a few types of impact tests for SGs have been conducted. In a previous study, a new welding method, a through-welding method, was proposed to increase critical buckling strength of a SG without any design change or material change and was verified by impact tests with $7{\times}7$ partial SG specimens. In this paper, the effect of through-welding method in case of a $16{\times}16$ full-size SG is investigated by pendulum impact tests with $16{\times}16$ SG specimens. And the increase of critical buckling strength for full-size SGs is measured by comparison with impact results of spot-welded and through-welded SGs.
We have studied $CuF_{2}.2H_{2}O$ using $^{1}H$ and $^{19}F$ pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance at 30 MHz. From the data of lineshapes, the spin-lattice relaxation times ($T_1$) and the spin echo decay times, lattice dynamics in the structure is investigated. $T_1$ data from both $^{1}H$ and $^{19}F$ NMR indicate that spin-lattice relaxation is dominated by the paramagnetic ion centers at the Cu sites. The lineshapes at room temperature appear to be strongly affected by exchange narrowing and motional narrowing.
