Thermal degradation of PVC which used for insulator of 600V vinyl insulated wire has been studied by thermo gravimetry analysis and accelerated thermal aging test. The activation energy using thermo gravimetry analysis was determined by the kinetic methods, such as Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa. The activation energy was determined to from 89.29 kJ/mol to 111.39 kJ/mol in 600V PVC insulated wire and from 97.80 kJ/mol to 119.25 kJ/mol in 600v heat-resistant PVC insulated wire. And also, the activation energy through a long-term thermal aging test was calculated by using Arrhenius equation In the low temperature of 8$0^{\circ}C$, 9$0^{\circ}C$, 10$0^{\circ}C$. The results showed that 600V PVC insulated wire was 92.16 kJ/mol, and 600v heat-resistant PVC insulated wire was 97.52 kJ/mol. Consequently, the activation energy of 600V heat-resistant PVC insulated wire is larger than 600V PVC insulated wire. Therefore, it can be predicted that 600V heat-resistant PVC insulated wire has a long-term stability relatively.

Polymers are widely used as insulating materials at various part of power industry. However, electrical properties of these polymers are easily degraded with their working environments, especially radiation areas. In this research, radiation degradation of low density polyethylene (LDPE) used as cable insulation was evaluated with thermoluminescence characteristics. LDPE was irradiated with gamma ray up to 1000 kGy at a dose rate of 5 kGy/hr in the presence of air at room temperature. Each of the irradiated samples were carried out thermoluminescence analysis as a function of temperature. Interrelationships between thermoluminescence and dielectric characteristics and volume resistivity are investigated as well. The results of thermoluminescence analysis showed that those would be significant factors for evaluation of radiation degradation.
Fracture behavior of ex-serviced 1Cr-0.5Mo steel was measured at room($24^{\circ}C$) and elevated($538^{\circ}C$) temperature and compared with that measured with virgin 1Cr-0.5Mo steel. Compact C(T) specimens were machined from the base and welded test materials. In case of the C(T) specimens of the weld, fatigue precrack was introduced along the fusion line so that following crack growth should occurs along the region of heat affected zone. It was observed that the J-R curve of the serviced material was significantly lower than that of the virgin material at room temperature. Brittle fracture was observed in the serviced material. On the other hand, at elevated temperature no noticeable difference was found between the J-R curves of the virgin and the serviced material. The measured J-R curves were also compared with those of the 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel obtained from the other literatures. Optical microscopy and SEM examination of the serviced material reveal the carbide in/along the grain boundary which shows material degradation due to long-term usage. An example of application of the measured J-R curves is shown.
Whole lupinus albus seeds were pressure toasted at temperatures of 100, 118 and $136^{\circ}C$ for 3, 7, 15 and 30 min to study rumen degradation and post-rumen digestion and to determine optimal heating conditions for the Dutch dairy feed industry. In sacco nylon bag and mobile bag techniques were employed for rumen and intestine incubations to determine ruminal degradation characteristics and intestinal digestion of crude protein (CP) in 4 lactation rumen cannulated and 4 lactating intestinal cannulated Dutch dairy cows fed 47% hay and 53% concentrate according to Dutch dairy requirements. Measured rumen degradation characteristics were soluble fraction (S), undegradable fraction (U), potentially degradable fraction (D), lag time (T0) and rate of degradation (Kd) of insoluble but degradable fraction. Percentage bypass feed protein (BCP), ruminal microbial protein synthesized based on available nitrogen (N_MP) and that based on available energy (E_MP), true protein supplied to the small intestine (TPSI), truly absorbed BCP (ABCP), absorbed microbial protein (AVP) in the small intestine, endogenous protein losses in the digestion (ENDP), true digested protein in the small intestine (TAP or DVE in Dutch) and degraded protein balance (PDB or OEB in Dutch) were totally evaluated using the new Dutch DVE/OEB System. Pressure toasting decreased (p<0.001) rumen degradability of CP. It reduced S (p<0.05) and Kd (p=0.06), increased D (p<0.05) and U (p<0.01) but did not alter T0 (p>0.05), thus resulting in dramatically increased BCP (p<0.001) with increasing time and temperature from 73.7 (raw) up to 182.5 g/kg DM ($136^{\circ}C/15min$). Although rumen microbial protein synthesized based on available energy (E_MP) was reduced, true protein (microbial and bypass feed protein) supplied to the small intestine (TPSI) was increased (p<0.001) from 153.1 (raw) to 247.6 g/kg DM ($136^{\circ}C/15min$). Due to digestibility of BCP in the intestine not changing (p>0.05) average 87.8%, the absorbed BCP increased (p<0.001) from 62.3 (raw) to 153.7 g/kg DM ($136^{\circ}C/15min$). Therefore DVE value of true digested protein in the small intestine was significantly increased (p<0.001) from 118.9 (raw) to 197.0 g/kg DM ($136^{\circ}C/15min$) and OEB value of degraded protein balance was significantly reduced (p<0.001) from 147.2 (raw) to 63.1 g/kg DM ($136^{\circ}C/15min$). It was concluded that pressure toasting was effective in shifting degradation of CP of lupinus albus from the rumen to small intestine without changing intestinal digestion. Further studies are required on the degradation and digestion of individual amino acids and on the damaging effects of processing on amino acids, especially the first limiting amino acids.
The MgO protective layer provides protection from the discharge, lowers the discharge voltage and prolongs the AC-PDP lifetime. We have investigated the characteristics of degradation of MgO protective layer, which correlates to the image-sticking[1] and the lifetime in AC-PDP. The degraded MgO have been changed the surface morphology of MgO. It was found that panel lifetime depended on degradation of MgO protective.

Different power output of solar cells can be observed at high-temperature regions such as desert areas. In this study, performance dependence on operating temperature of crystalline silicon solar cells with different emitter types was analyzed. Based on the light current-voltage (LIV) measurement, temperature coefficients of short-circuit current density ($J_{SC}$), open-circuit voltage ($V_{OC}$), fill factor (FF) and power conversion efficiency were measured and compared for two groups of crystalline silicon solar cells with different emitter types. One group had homogeneously doped (conventional) emitter and another selectively doped (selective) emitter. Varying the operating temperature from 25 to 40, 60, and $80^{\circ}C$, LIV characteristics of the cells were measured and the properties of saturation current densities ($J_0$) were extracted from dark current-voltage (DIV) curve. From the DIV data, effect of temperature on the performance of the solar cells with different electrical structures for the emitter was analyzed. Increasing the temperature, both emitter structures showed a slight increase in $J_{SC}$ and a rapid degradation of $V_{OC}$. FF and power conversion efficiency also decreased with the increasing temperature. The degrees of $J_{SC}$ increase and $V_{OC}$ degradation for two groups were compared and explained. Also, FF change was explained by series and shunt resistances from the LIV data. It was concluded that the degradation of solar cells shows different values at different temperatures depending on the emitter type of solar cells.
The radiation degradation of five insulating materials such as silicone rubber, ethylene-propylene rubber polybutylene terephthalte, poly carbonate, nylon 66 were evaluated by using thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) and tensile properties as a function of radiation doses. The results of temperature at 5% weight loss and activation energy from TGA showed linearly decreasing and increasing tendency as radiation doses comparing with tensile properties. Consequently, the assessment of TGA for the radiation degradation of materials was effective.
The thermal degradation experiment of sodium salt of poly (${\gamma}$-glutamic acid) (PGGNa) has been carried out in both its solid phase and solution phase at the range of $57{\sim}120^{\circ}C$ and their molecular weight decreasing effect was analyzed as a function of time by means of viscometry and light scattering. Based on the solid phase degradation results, it was supposed that the bond scission rate in a polymer chain kept constant and that the bond scission was occurred on a randomly located position in a polymer chain. For the degradation in solution phase, it was also found that all data at various temperatures were dropped on a single master curve when the reduced time $t/t^*$ was used in the plot of the reciprocal intrinsic viscosity (or molecular weight). This degradation curve in solution phase could be expressed as the sum of a single exponential and a linear equation and especially, the single exponential character appeared only at the beginning stage. The activation energy was measured as $107{\sim}115$ kJ/mol in this study and agreed with the literature values.
In this study, the ion-gelation method was applied to fabricate novel Fe-carbon-bentonite-alginate beads ($Fe^0$/C-BABs). $Fe^0$/C-BABs could effectively control Fe release during persulfate (PS) activation in N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP) oxidation. A novel two-stage approach that combined $Fe^0$/C-BABs and an oyster-shell-filled bed (OSFB) column was developed to address the low pH and high Fe concentration of the effluent of the traditional PS process. The application of the $Fe^0$/C-BABs and OSFB column regulated pH levels and Fe release during the advanced oxidation of APAP. The characteristics of $Fe^0$/C-BABs were also investigated through scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The long-term operation performance of $Fe^0$/C-BABs in a continuous fixed-bed reactor under simultaneous PS and APAP feeding was also evaluated. The effects of initial PS concentration, pH, fixed-bed weight, in-flow rate, and dissolved oxygen (DO) were investigated. Under selected conditions, 86.3% efficiency was achieved during the first stage of APAP degradation (effluent pH of 3.05, Fe contents: $106.25mgL^{-1}$). Water quality improved after the effluent was passed through the OSFB column (effluent pH of 6.32, Fe contents: $21.43mgL^{-1}$). Moreover, this study analyzed the free radicals and intermediates produced during APAP degradation to identify the possible routes of APAP degradation.

A cast stainless steel may experience an embrittlement when it is exposed to approximately 30$0^{\circ}C$ for long period. In the present investigation, The three classes of the thermally aged CF8M specimie n are prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method. Namely, after the specimen are held for 300, 1800 and 3600hrs. at 43$0^{\circ}C$ respectively, the specimens are quenched in water to room temperature. Load versus load line displacement curves and J-R curves are obtained using the unloading compliance method. $J_{IC}$ values are obtained following ASTM E 813-87 and ASTM E 813-81 methods. In addition to these methods, JIC values are obtained using SZW(stretch zone width) method described in JSME S 001-1981. The results of the unloading compliance method are $J_Q$=485.7 kJ/m$^2$ for virgin material, $J_{IC}$ of the degraded materials associated with 300, 1800 and 3600hrs are obtained 369.25 kJ/m$^2$, 311.02 kJ/m$^2$, 276.7 kJ/m$^2$, respectively. The results of SZW method are similar to those of the unloading compliance method. Through the elastic-plastic fracture toughness test, it is found that the value of $J_{IC}$ is decreased with increasing of the aging time. The results obtained through the investigation can provide reference data for a leak before break(LBB) of reactor coolant system of nuclear power plants.
