This study presents a 3D non-linear finite element (FE) assessment of dynamic soil-structure interaction (SSI). The numerical investigation has been performed on the time domain through a Finite Element (FE) system, while considering the nonlinear behavior of soil and the multi-directional nature of genuine seismic events. Later, the FE outcomes are analyzed to the recorded in-situ free-field and structural movements, emphasizing the numerical model's great result in duplicating the observed response. In this work, the soil response is simulated using an isotropic hardening elastic-plastic hysteretic model utilizing HSsmall. It is feasible to define the non-linear cycle response from small to large strain amplitudes through this model as well as for the shift in beginning stiffness with depth that happens during cyclic loading. One of the most difficult and unexpected tasks in resolving soil-structure interaction concerns is picking an appropriate ground motion predicted across an earthquake or assessing the geometrical abnormalities in the soil waves. Furthermore, an artificial neural network (ANN) has been utilized to properly forecast the non-linear behavior of soil and its multi-directional character, which demonstrated the accuracy of the ANN based on the RMSE and R2 values. The total result of this research demonstrates that complicated dynamic soil-structure interaction processes may be addressed directly by passing the significant simplifications of well-established substructure techniques.
Isotropic (instant loading) and Ko (gradual increase loading) consolidation tests were conducted in triaxial test equipment using cylindrical sample (5.0 cm in diameter and 10.0 cm in height) on two marine clay deposits. The duration of primary consolidation was estimated by two curve fitting methods using measured strain. A differential equation of consolidation for drainage in the radial and vertical direction was solved by the implicit finite difference scheme. The results of two curve fitting methods were compared with the numerical solutions to evaluate the appropriate axial loading rate of Ko consolidation and the primary consolidation periods. In addition, primary consolidation periods of the samples with a diameter of 35 mm and a height of 70 mm were calculated. The relation of radial and vertical consolidation coefficients is also presented.
This paper reports the results of an experimental examination using X-rays to test annealing materials for lapped bearing steel (STB2), to confirm the validity of the weighted averaging analysis method. The distribution behavior for the α𝜓-sin2𝜓 diagram and the presence or absence of differences in the peak method, half-value breadth method, and centroid method were investigated. When lapping the annealed bearing steel (STB2) material, a residual stress state with a non-directional steep gradient appeared in the surface layer, and it was found that the weighted averaging analysis method was effective. If there is a steep stress gradient, the sin2𝜓 diagram is curved and the diffraction intensity distribution curve becomes asymmetric, resulting in a difference between the peak method, half-value breadth method, and centroid method. This phenomenon was evident when the stress gradient was more than 2~3 kg/mm2/㎛. In this case, if the position of the diffraction line is determined using the centroid method and the weighted averaging analysis method is applied, the stress value on the surface and the stress gradient under the surface can be obtained more accurately. When the stress gradient becomes a problem, since the curvature of the sin2𝜓 diagram appears clearly in the region of sin2𝜓 > 0.5, it is necessary to increase the inclination angle 𝜓 as much as possible. In the case of a lapping layer, a more accurate value can be obtained by considering 𝜎3 in the weighted averaging analysis method. In an isotropic biaxial residual stress state, the presence or absence of 𝜎3 can be determined as the presence or absence of strain for sin2𝜓≈0.4.
For the same configuration of two-dimensional finite element models, 6-node element exhibits stiffer bending stiffness than 8-node element. This is true in the relation between 16-node element and 20-node element for three-dimensional model. This stiffening phenomenon comes from the elimination of several mid nodes from full-node elements. Therefore, this may be called 'relative stiffness stiffening phenomenon'. It seems that there are a couple of ways to correct the stiffening effect, however, we could find only one effective method-the method of modification of Gauss sampling points-which passes the patch test and does not alter other kinds of stiffness, such as extensional stiffness. The quantity of modification is a function of Poisson's ratios of the constituent materials. We could obtain two modification equations, one for plane stress case and the other for plane strain case. This method can be extended to 3-dimensional solid elements. Except the exact plane strain cases, most 3-dimensional plates could be modeled successfully with 16-node element modified by the equation for the plane stress case. The effectiveness of the modification method is checked by applying it to several examples with excellent improvements. In numerical examples, beams with various boundary conditions are subjected to static and time-dependent loads. Free and forced motion analyses of beams and plates are also tested. The beam and plate may be composed of isotropic multilayers as well as a single layer.

In order to review the utility of Lade's single hardening constitutive model, a series of isotropic compression-expansion tests and consolidated drained triaxial tests including as CTC, TC, RTC, and OSP were performed by Baekma river sand with various of stress path. Parameters required in model were determined using these tests. The accuracy of analysis was reviewed by back analysis of test results used to determine the 11 parameters of soil property through the test of each stress path. Also. for verifying the accuracy of prediction for the stress-strain behavior using failure criterion related 9 parameters with correlational equation and constant and yield criterion related parameters h, ${\alpha}$ and ${\eta}_1$, when stress path is different with each other, it has been obtained in the review result of stress path dependent characteristics of the constitutional model through the analyzing results of CTC, TC, RTC, OSP, and fine silica sand tests.
In this study, we conducted experiment and finite element analysis on the flexural behavior of the round concrete panels according to the evaluation method of biaxial flexural tensile strengths. The Round Panel Test (RPT) and the Biaxial Flexure Test (BFT) were used to determine the biaxial flexural strength of round plain concrete panels. In order to understand the stress distribution on the panels, we measured load-strain relationship at the center of the panels' bottom surface. Test results show that fracture pattern in RPT and BFT panels are similar, and the tensile stress distribution is uniform in all directions at the center of the bottom surface of the panels for both RPT and BFT. The distribution of stresses in two test specimens coincided with the analysis result. The average biaxial flexural strength of RPT is about 29% greater than those of the BFT. The coefficient of variations (COV) of the RPT and BFT for the biaxial flexure strength is 8%, 6%, respectively, which indicates that BFT method is useful and reliable for determining biaxial flexural strengths of the concrete.
Anisotropic characteristics of deformation are important to understand the particular behavior in the pre-failure state of soils. Recent experiments show that cross-anisotropic moduli of granular soils can be expressed by functions of normal stresses in the corresponding directions, which is closely linked to micromechanical characteristics of particles. Granular soils are composed of a number of particles so that the force-displacement relationship at each contact point governs the macroscopic stress-strain relationship. Therefore, the micromechanical approach in which the deformation of granular soils is regarded as a mutual interaction between particle contacts is one of the best ways to investigate the anisotropic elastic deformation of soils. In this study, a numerical program based on the theory of micromechanics is developed. Generalized contact model for the irregular contact surface of soil particles is adopted to represent the force-displacement relationship in each contact point far the realistic prediction of anisotropic moduli. To evaluate the model parameters, a set of analytical solutions of anisotropic elastic moduli is derived in the isotropic stress condition. A detailed procedure to determine the model parameters is proposed with emphasis on the practical applicability of micromechanical program to analyze the elastic behavior of the granular soils.

In this study, the plastic zone and internal earth pressure of the tunnel were calculated using the following three methods: metal plasticity to analyze the deformation of metal during plastic processing, Terzaghi's earth pressure theory from the geotechnical perspective and modified Terzaghi's earth pressure theory, and slip line theory using Mohr-Coulomb yield conditions. All three methods are two-dimensional mathematical analysis models for analyzing the plane strain conditions of isotropic materials. Using the theory of metallurgical plastics, the plastic zone and the internal earth pressure of the ground were obtained by assuming that the internal pressure acts on the tunnel, so different results were derived that did not match the actual tunnel site, where only gravity was applied. An analysis of the plasticity zone and earth pressure via the slip-line method showed that a failure line is formed in a log-spiral, which was found to be similar to the real failure line by comparing the results of previous studies. The earth pressure was calculated using a theoretical method. Terzaghi's earth pressure was calculated to be larger than the earth pressure considering the dilatancy effect.
The successful performance of any numerical geotechnical simulation depends on the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical implementation of constitutive model used to simulate the stress-strain (constitutive) response of the soil. The corner stone of the numerical implementation of constitutive models is the numerical integration of the incremental form of soil-plasticity constitutive equations over a discrete sequence of time steps. In this paper a well known two-surface soil plasticity model is implemented using a generalized implicit return mapping algorithm to arbitrary convex yield surfaces referred to as the Closest-Point-Projection method (CPPM). The two-surface model describes the nonlinear behavior of coarse-grained materials by incorporating a bounding surface concept together with isotropic and kinematic hardening as well as fabric formulation to account for the effect of fabric formation on the unloading response. In the course of investigating the performance of the CPPM integration method, it is proven that the algorithm is an accurate, robust, and efficient integration technique useful in finite element contexts. It is also shown that the algorithm produces a consistent tangent operator $\frac{d\sigma}{d\varepsilon}$ during the iterative process with quadratic convergence rate of the global iteration process.

Vibration investigation of fluid-filled functionally graded cylindrical shells with ring supports is studied here. Shell motion equations are framed first order shell theory due to Sander. These equations are partial differential equations which are usually solved by approximate technique. Robust and efficient techniques are favored to get precise results. Employment of the Rayleigh-Ritz procedure gives birth to the shell frequency equation. Use of acoustic wave equation is done to incorporate the sound pressure produced in a fluid. Hankel's functions of second kind designate the fluid influence. Mathematically the integral form of the Langrange energy functional is converted into a set of three partial differential equations. A cylindrical shell is immersed in a fluid which is a non-viscous one. These shells are stiffened by rings in the tangential direction. For isotropic materials, the physical properties are same everywhere where the laminated and functionally graded materials, they vary from point to point. Here the shell material has been taken as functionally graded material. After these, ring supports are located at various positions along the axial direction round the shell circumferential direction. The influence of the ring supports is investigated at various positions. Effect of ring supports with empty and fluid-filled shell is presented using the Rayleigh - Ritz method with simply supported condition. The frequency behavior is investigated with empty and fluid-filled cylindrical shell with ring supports versus circumferential wave number and axial wave number. Also the variations have been plotted against the locations of ring supports for length-to-radius and height-to-radius ratio. Moreover, frequency pattern is found for the various position of ring supports for empty and fluid-filled cylindrical shell. The frequency first increases and gain maximum value in the midway of the shell length and then lowers down. It is found that due to inducting the fluid term frequency result down than that of empty cylinder. It is also exhibited that the effect of frequencies is investigated by varying the surfaces with stainless steel and nickel as a constituent material. To generate the fundamental natural frequencies and for better accuracy and effectiveness, the computer software MATLAB is used.
