Japanese anise (Illicium anisatum L.) twigs were collected and ground after drying, then immersed with 50% aqueous acetone for 3 days. After filtration, the extracts were fractionated with n-hexane, chloroform ($CHCl_3$), ethylacetate (EtOAc) and $H_2O$, and then freeze-dried after condensation. A portion of EtOAc soluble fraction (5.7 g) was chromatographed on a Sephadex LH-20 column with various aqueous $MeOH-H_2O$. Compound 2 and compound 3 were isolated from fraction 8 and 5, respectively. Compound 1 and compound 4 were isolated after rechromatography of fraction 7. The isolated compounds were elucidated as (+)-catechin (1), taxifolin (2), taxifolin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-(+)-xylopyranose (3) and quercitrin (4) by spectral and literature data, and by comparison with the authentic samples. Of the isolated compounds, taxifolin (2), taxifolin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-(+)-D-xylopyranose (3) and quercitrin (4) were isolated, for the first time, from the extracts of japanese anise twigs.
The present study is concerned with the demonstration of the relationship between the behavior and the brain concentration of noradrenaline resulted from pretreatment of amphetamine in isolated or aggregated rats. The experimental subjects were rats weighing from 120g to 200g housed 1, 2, and 6 in a cage. Analeptic activity of amphetamine was measured by determining the sleeping time induced by pentobarbital sod. The noradrenaline content in brain was determined with Aminco-Bowmann's spectro-photofluorometer by Lee's modification of Shore and Olin method. Results: 1) The analeptic activity of amphetamine on the sleeping time induced by pentobarbital sod. was more increased in the grouped rats than in isolated animal. 2) In being isolated and grouped rats, the sleeping time induced pentobarital sod, was markedly prolonged by pretreatment of amphetamine. 3) Means of housing rats, e.g., isolation or aggregation did not seem to affect the brain noradrenaline depleting action. 4) Repeated daily parenteral administration of amphetamine sulfate for a period 1 to 3 weeks resulted in decrement of brain noradrenaline concentration in being isolated and grouped rats. 5) The prolongation of sleeping time of the isolated or aggregated rats, when pretreated with amphetamine, compared with that of stock rats, seems to be attributable rather to the means of housing than the variation of the noradrenaline caused by amphetamine.
To investigate the epidemiological trait of intestinal diseases of animals caused by thermophilic Campylobacter spp., isolation of etiological agent was carried out. Isolated Campylobacter spp. were biotyped, serotyped and the susceptibility of the isolates to antimicrobial agents were examined. Th results were as follows. 1. Isolation rates of Campylobacter spp. from 649 fecal materials of 208 cattle, 300 pigs and 141 chickens were 25.5%, 23.7% and 38.3%, respectively. 2. The majority of the 130 isolates of C jejuni was classified as biotype I(50.6%) and biotype II (34.6%). Most of the 46 isolates of C coli were biotype I (71.7%). 3. Isolated C jejuni strains showed 14 different serotype, and serotype 4, 26, 36 were most frequent. Isolated C coli strains showed 5 different serotype and serotype 31 and 21 were relatively common. 4. Isolated Campylobacter spp. were highly susceptible to nalidixic acid, amikacin, gentamicin, colistin and chlorampehnocol.
This paper deals with the distribution, reservoir and mode of spread of infection on 6 hatcheries in Taegu, Kyungpook and 5 broiler farms in Kyungpook during the period from June 1991 to June 1992. Isolated Salmonella were examined for serotypes, biotyping of Salmonella(S) typhimurtum, antibiotic susceptibility and some biochemical characteristics. Forty two Salmonella strains were isolated from 42(2.7% of 1,577 caecal samples of chicks, and their serotypes were S typhimurium 10, S typhimurium var Copenhagen 5, S infantis 4, S thompson 3, and untypable 20. The isolation rate of Salmonella varied from 0 to 5.1% in 6 hatcheries and that of Salmonella from 5 broiler farms was 10. 5%. Biotypes of 10 S typhimurium and 5 S typhimurium var Copenhagen strains isolated from chicks of hatcheries and broiler farms were biotype 2(86.6%), 8(6.7%), and 10a(6.7%), and 26i(6.7%) according to Duguid's scheme. Antibiotic susceptibility test of Salmonella isolated were performed by agar dilution method, using 9 antibiotics as follows: ampicillin(Am), chloramphenicol(Cm), gentamicin(Gm), kanamycin(Km), nalidixic acid(Na), rifampicin(Rf), streptomycin(Sm), sulfadimethoxine(Su), and tetracycline(Tc), All the strains were sensitive to RF. But 8 strans(23.8%) were resistant to one or more drugs and the most common resistance patterns of transferred R plasmids were SmSuGm and SmSu. Among 42 isolates, one had transferable citrate utilizing plasmid. S typhimurium and S typhimurium var copenhagen strains were resistant to killing by 90% normal guinea pig serum.
Isolated splenic torsion is a rare disease, which is usually produced in deep-chest large breed dogs. A five-year old Pitbull terrier and a four-year old Yorkshire terrier were diagnosed as isolated splenic torsion with chronic form. Leukocytosis, anemia and elevated hepatic enzyme level were found in blood test and a large amount of ascites was observed. Abdominal radiography revealed splenomegaly and ascites and ultrasonography showed diffuse hypoechoic change of spleen in case 1 and hyperechoic change of spleen with focal hypoechoic regions in case 2, thromboembolism of splenic vein and abnormal direction of spleen. To identify the underlying disease of isolated splenic torsion, the histopathologic examination of excised spleen is essential and splenic neoplasia was found in case 2. Chronic isolated splenic torsion shows nonspecific clinical signs and laboratory results. Through diagnostic procedure, particularly ultrasonography, prompt diagnosis may be achieved and improve the prognosis of the patient.
The main object of this study is to evaluate the seismic response effects on a reinforced concrete building isolated by triple concave friction pendulum (TCFP) bearings. The site-response effects arise from the difference in the local soil conditions at the support points of the buildings. The local soil conditions are, therefore, considered as soft, medium and firm; separately. The results on the responses of the isolated building are compared with those of the non-isolated. The building model used in the time history analysis, which is a two-dimensional and eight-storey reinforced concrete building with and without the seismic isolation bearings and/or the local soil conditions, is composed of two-dimensional moment resisting frames for superstructure and of plane elements featuring plane-stress for substructure. The TCFP bearings for isolating the building are modelled as of a series arrangement of the three single concave friction pendulum (SCFP) bearings. In order to investigate the efficiency of both the seismic isolation bearings and the site-response effects on the buildings, the time history analyses are elaborately conducted. It is noted that the site-response effects are important for the isolated building constructed on soft, medium or firm type local foundation soil. The results of the analysis demonstrate that the site-response has significant effects on the response values of the structure-seismic isolation-foundation soil system.
Through the study of identification of filamentous molds isolated from 12 traditional Nuruk, collected from several regions in Korea, 78 strains of Absidia spp., including Absidia corymbifera, Absidia ramosa, and Absidia sp. of which specific names were not identified, 19 strains of Rhizopus spp. including Rhizopus cohnii, Rhizopus arrhizus, and Rhizopus oryzae, 8 strains of Circinella spp., 1 strain of Actinomucor sp., 49 strains of Aspergillus spp., including Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus flavus var. columnaris, Aspergillus wentii, Aspergillus candidus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus foetidus, 2 strains of Cladospoyium spp. and 2 strains Botryotrichum spp., etc. total 159 kinds of filamentous molds were isolated and identified. There were many differences in numbers and distributions of filamentous molds from each Nuruk according to their collected region. Absidia spp. were most frequently isolated from every Nuruk sample. Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus candidus, and Rhizopus cohnii showed even distribution. Penicillium sp. and Mucor sp. were not detected. Actinomucor sp., Aspergillus foetidus, Botryotrichum sp., and Cladosporium spp., which have not been reported by far, were found. Amylase activities, pH stability of amylase, and acid productivity of isolated strains were compared.
In the past 20 years, seismic isolation has see a variety of applications in design of structures to mitigate seismic hazard. In particular, isolation has been seen as a means of achieving enhanced seismic performance objectives, such as those for hospitals, critical emergency response facilities, mass electronic data storage centers, and similar buildings whose functionality following a major seismic event is either critical to the public welfare or the financial solvency of an organization. While achieving these enhanced performance objectives is a natural (and oftentimes requisite) application of seismic isolation, little attention has been given to the extension of current design practice to isolated buildings which may have more conventional performance objectives. The development of a rational design methodology for isolated buildings requires thorough investigation of the behavior of isolated structures subjected to seismic input of various recurrence intervals, and which are designed to remain elastic only under frequent events. This paper summarizes these investigations, and proposed a consistent probabilistic framework within which any combination of performance objectives may be met. Analytical simulations are presented, the results are summarized. The intent of this work is to allow a building owner to make informed decisions regarding tradeoffs between superstructure performance (drifts, accelerations) and isolation system performance. Within this framework, it is possible to realize the benefits of designing isolated buildings for which the design criteria allows consideration of multiple performance goals.
Superstructures and isolation systems of seismically isolated buildings located close to active faults may observe increased seismic demands resulting from long-period and high-amplitude velocity and displacement pulses existent in near-fault ground motions as their fundamental periods may be close to or coincident with these near-fault pulse periods. In order to take these effects into account, the 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC97) has specified near-source factors that scale up the design spectrum depending on the closest distance to the fault, the soil type at the site, and the properties of the seismic source. Although UBC97 has been superseded by the 2015 International Building Code in the U.S.A., UBC97 near-source factors are still frequently referred in the design of seismically isolated buildings around the world. Therefore it is deemed necessary and thus set as the aim of this study to assess the necessity and the adequacy of near-source factors for seismically isolated buildings. Benchmark buildings of different heights with isolation systems of different properties are used in comparing seismic responses obtained via time history analyses using a large number of historical earthquakes with those obtained from spectral analyses using the amplified spectrums established through UBC97 near-source factors. Results show that near-source factors are necessary but inadequate for superstructure responses and somewhat unconservative for base displacement response.
An avian rotavirus (AvRV-2) was isolated from feces of broilers suffering from acute gastroenteritis in 2011. It was the first avian rotavirus isolated in Korea. To investigate the molecular characteristics of AvRV-2, the VP4, VP6, VP7 and NSP4 gene nucleotide sequences were determined and compared with those of rotavirus strains available in the GenBank database. The phylogenetic tree of VP7 gene showed that AvRV-2 had a high degree of nucleotide sequence homology (93.4% to 94.7%) with those of rotaviruses belonging to genotype G19 cluster. The phylogenetic tree of the VP4 gene revealed a high degree of nucleotide sequence homology (95.8% to 95.9%) with genotype P[30] rotaviruses isolated from chickens. The VP6 and NSP4 gene nucleotide sequences showed the highest identities with those of avian strains with 95.3% to 96.4% and 90.3% to 92.2%, respectively. Genetic characterization of the VP4, VP6, VP7 and NSP4 showed that AvRV-2 strain was most closely related to chicken rotavirus strains from Germany and Japan. Comparative nucleotide sequences and phylogenetic analysis indicated that avian rotavirus isolated from broilers belonged to genotype G19P[30] and it was the first report on avian rotavirus infection in Korea.
