  • In land seismic exploration, irregular surface topography and weathering layer in near surface distorts the reflected signals of data. Therefore, typical land seismic data should be compensated for this distortion by static correction. To perform the static correction, near-surface velocity is required, which can be obtained by seismic refraction survey. However, land seismic data is often acquired in a limited form of geometry depending on the equipment availability, accessibility condition, and permission for the survey site. In this situation, refraction analysis should be performed using reflection data because it is impossible to acquire refraction-oriented data due to limited source and receiver geometry. In this study, we aimed to analyze the reliability of the results obtained by refraction traveltime tomography when using reflection data with a limited number of sources and receivers from irregular surface topography. By comparing the inversion result from irregular topography with that from flat surface, we found that the surface topography affects the reliability of the inversion results to some degree. We also found that the number of sources has little effect on the inversion results unless the number of sources are very small. On the other hand, we observed that velocity distortion occurred in the overlapped part of receiver arrays when using a limited number of receivers, and therefore suggested the size of the least overlapping ratio to avoid the velocity distortion. Finally, we performed numerical tests for the model which simulates the surface topography and acquisition geometry of the survey region and verified the reliability analysis of inversion results. We identified reliable areas and suspicious area of the inverted velocity model by applying the analysis results to field data.

  • For the burrs formed in machining are irregular and very sharp in shape, it is usually very difficult to measure burr accurately. It was proved that micro burr geometry can be measured imprecision by the Conoprobe sensor using conoscopic holography method. We developed 3D burr measurement system using this sensor. The system is composed of Conoprobe sensor, XY table, controller and 3D measurement program. Some measurements using the developed system are conducted for the burrs formed in micro drilling and piercing. Specific software fur burr measurement includes several function, calculation of burr volume, average burr height. Burs formed on a curved surface were compensated and measured successfully using the basic surface compensation function.

  • The flow and heat transfer characteristics for three-dimensional mixed convection flows in a radiator flat tube with U--shaped grooves are analyzed numerically. The flow and temperature fields are calculated by using the modified SIMPLE algorithm for irregular geometry. One tube specification among the various flat tube exchangers is recommended by considering the heat transfer and pressure drop. The effects of variation of coolant flow conditions and external air conditions on the flow and the thermal characteristics for the selected tube are investigated. the results show that inlet velocity of coolant flow is the very important factor in heat transfer and pressure drop, and top side is better position than the others as fin cleave to tube.

  • Abstract - Electrical characteristics or asymmetric n-MOSFET's with different source and drain geometry are experimently investigated using test structures having various gate width. Saturation drain current and resistance in linear region are estimated by a simple schematic model, which consists of conventional device having parasitic resistor. A comparison of experimental results of symmetric and asymmetric devices gives the parasitic resistance caused by abnormal device structure. The suggested model shows good agreement with the measured drain current for both forward- and reverse-modes.

  • We study the incomprssible Navier Stokes equations for the flow inside contraction geometry. The governing equations are expressed in the vorticity-stream function formulations. A rectangular computational domain is arised by elliptic grid generation technique. The numerical solution is based on a technique of automatic numerical generation of acurvilinear coordinate system by transforming the governing equation into computational plane. The transformed equations are approximated using central differences and solved simultaneously by successive over relaxation iteration. The time dependent of the vorticity equation solved by using explicit marching procedure. We will apply the technique on several irregular-shapes.

  • This article is concerned with the application of the fractal geometry to interfacial electrochemistry. Especially, we dealt with diffusion kinetics at the fractal electrodes. This article first explained the basic concepts of the Sacral geometry which has proven to be fruitful for modelling rough and irregular surfaces. Finally this article examined the electrochemical responses to various signals under diffusion-limited reactions during diffusion towards the fractal interfaces: The generalised forms, including the fractal dimension of the electrode surfaces, of Cottrell, Sand and Randles-Sevcik equations were theoretically derived and explained in chronoamperomety, chronopotentiometry and linear sweep/cyclic voltammetry, respectively.

  • $Premi\grave{e}re$ Vision is a leading textile collection held since 1973. In this study, textiles for 2004/05 F/W season in $Premi\grave{e}re$ Vision were analyzed at the various point of view, such as general trend, sub-theme, fiber content, color trend, structure, yarn trend, pattern, texture, decoration, finishing and other technical treatment, and functionality. There were three general trends; natural/ecology, geometry, and combination. Natural color and texture were widely used over the fabric exhibited, and irregularities expressed the natural trend of textiles. Geometric patterns were used for knit as well as for woven. Geometry expressed by various methods such as weaving, knitting, printing, shearing, embossing, and etc. However, geometry shown in this season was not a clear form expressed by weaving, but a blurry, irregular form expressed by various other methods such as knitting. The combination among heterogeneous fibers, yarns, colors, images, and textures was usual, however, the harmony among them was accomplished.

  • The fractal geometry is a non-Euclidean geometry which discribes the naturally irregular or fragmented shaps, so that it can be applied to fracture behavior of materials to investigate the fracture process. Fractal curves have a characteristic that represents a self-similarity as an invariant based on the fractal dimension. This fractal geometry was applied to the crack growth of cementitious composites in order to correlate the fracture behavior to microstructures of cemposite composites. The purpose of this study was to find relationships between fractal dimensions and fracture energy. Fracture test was carried out in order to investigate the fracture behavior of plain and fiber reinforced cement composites. The load-CMOD curve and fracture energy of the beams were observed under the three point loading system. The crack profiles were obtained by the image processing system. Box counting method was used to determine the fractal dimension, D$_{f}$. It was known that the linear correlation exists between fractal dimension and fracture energy of the cement composites. The implications of the fractal nature for the crack growth behavior on the fracture energy, G$_{f}$ is appearent.ent.

  • A B-spline based high order panel method was developed for the motion of bodies in an ideal fluid, either of infinite extent or with a free boundarysurface. In this method, both the geometry and the potential are represented by the B-spline, which guarantees more accurate results than most potential based low order methods. In the present work, we applied this B-spline based high order method to the radiation problem of floating bodies. The boundary condition on the free surface was satisfied by adopting a Kelvin-type Green function and irregular frequencies were removed by placing additional control points on the free surface surrounding the body. The numerical results were validated by comparison with existing numerical and experimental results.
