  • We have observed the orientation behavior of acicular iron oxides in magnetic layer of the particular magnetic tape after magnetic paint was coated on polyester film. As results of the static orientation, orientation of iron oxides come to the maximum at the front and the back of orientation magnets, but it was a litter lower at the back than at the front, and it slowly decreases and come to the constant level after passing through the orientation magnets. In case of edge portion to be futher away from center in the coated film, the orientation of iron oxides in magnetic layer come to worse than that of the center. We think it is owing to the shape and the magnetic magnitude of orientation magnets. The results of the dynamic orientation are as follows. As the orientation of iron oxides in the particulated magnetic tape is higher, the output properties of tape come to better than ever. And the orientation of iron oxides can be changed by drying condition, as result, the output properties of tape can be also. Therefore we think the considrations of the design of orientation magnets and the control of drying condition are needed to improve output properties of the particulated magnetic tape.

  • This paper describes the fabrication of AlN thin films containing iron and iron nitride particles, and the magnetic and electrical properties of such films. Fe-N-Al alloy films were deposited in Ar and $N_2$ mixtures at ambient temperature using Fe/Al composite targets in a two-facing-target DC sputtering system. X-ray diffraction results showed that the Fe-N-Al films were amorphous, and after annealing for 5 h both AlN and bcc-Fe/bct-$FeN_x$ phases appeared. Structure changes in the $FeN_x$ phases were explained in terms of occupied nitrogen atoms. Electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that iron and iron nitride particles were randomly dispersed in annealed AlN films. The grain size of magnetic particles ranged from 5 to 20 nm in diameter depending on annealing conditions. The saturation magnetization as a function of the annealing time for the $Fe_{55}N_{20}Al_{25}$ films when annealed at 573, 773 and 873 K. At these temperatures, the amount of iron/iron nitride particles increased with increasing annealing time. An increase in the saturation magnetization is explained qualitatively in terms of the amount of such magnetic particles in the film. The resistivity increased monotonously with decreasing Fe content, being consistent with randomly dispersed iron/iron nitride particles in the AlN film. The coercive force was evaluated to be larger than $6.4{\times}10^3Am^{-1}$ (80 Oe). This large value is ascribed to a residual stress restrained in the ferromagnetic particles, which is considered to be related to the present preparation process.

  • The carboxylates as a corrosion inhibitor has been studied by many researchers because of its environmental safety and low depletion rate. However, conventional test methods of inhibitor such as weight loss measurements, linear polarization resistance and corrosion potential monitoring etc., evaluate uniform corrosion of metals. These methods are unable to evaluate crevice-related corrosions, which are encountered in most of heat exchanging facilities. In order to choose the optimum corrosion inhibitor, the appropriate test methods are required to evaluate their performances in service environment. From this point of view, polarization technique was used to evaluate the characteristics of sodium heptanoate on corrosion behavior for carbon steel. Especially a thin film crevice sensor technique were applied to simulate the crevice corrosion in this study. From these experiments, we found that oxygen as an oxidizing agent was required to obtain stable passive film on the metal. Presence of oxygen, however, accelerated crevice corrosion. Potential shift by oxygen depletion and weakened inhibitive film inside the crevice were responsible for such accelerated feature. It is shown that film for corrosion inhibition is a mixture of sodium heptanoate and iron (II) heptanoate as reaction product of iron surface and sodium heptanoate. The iron (II) heptanoate which has been synthesized by reaction of heptanoic acid and ferrous chloride in methanol solution forms bidentate complex.

  • When the PbO-based flux system is used in the Liquid Phase Epitaxy (LPE) method for Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) thick film, the effect of Pb ions incorporated into the grown crystal; increase the lattice parameter, changed the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy constant (Ku) or conductance of grown film. It exerts a bad influence on physical property such as increasing optical absorption of grown film. The content of the Pb ion in crystal was decreased by volatilization of Pb ion after annealing; therefore, the lattice parameter of film was reduced on an average 0.0115 ${\AA}$ by the the Pb ion.

  • Ellipsometric and reflectance measurements were made with magneto-optically self-nulling ellipsometer on the iron surface being passivated. The passivation was induced by abruptly changing potential of the mechanically polished high purity iron from the reduction potential to the oxidation potential in basic solutions. From the differences in the optical paramates(${\Delta},\;{\psi}$) and reflectance (R) between the reduced (film-free) and oxidized (film-covered) states, the thickness(${\tau}$) and optical constants (n, k) of the film in the early stage of its formation were computed as functions of pH and time. From the computed values, it was deduced that the properties of the anodic film did not undergo a drastic change with time which would indicate a transformation of the film before effective passivity is attained, and that the film reached its stady state within a few second. The thickness of anodic film was $14\;{\sim}\;23{\AA}$. The anodic films also seemed to have small values of optical absorption coefficient. The film formed in high pH environments had thinner and denser structure than that formed in low pH.

  • Thin films of MgO-doped and CaO-doped iron oxide were prepared y spray pyrolysis. The films were characterized b X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and voltammetric techniques. The photoelectrochemical behavior of thin film electrodes depended greatly on the doping level, sintering temperature, substrate temperature and added photosensitizing compounds in solution, showed p-type photoelectrochemical behavior, while the CaO-doped iron oxide thin films prepared at low temperature showed n-type photoelectrochemical behavior. This characteristic change was interpreted in terms of the surface structure change of the thin films and doping effect of metal oxide.

  • In this study, PEDOT thin films polymerized with Iron(III)tosylate ($Fe(PTS)_3$) and grown on atomically smooth and highly dense 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane self-assembled monolayer (APS-SAM) surfaces by VPP method have been investigated. PEDOT thin films were synthesized on APS self-assembled $SiO_2$ wafer surface at two different concentrations (20 wt% and 40 wt%) and growth time (3 and 30 minutes), and then their sheet resistance were measured and compared. PEDOT thin films grown with 20 wt% $Fe(PTS)_3$ oxidant are highly conductive when compared with the film grown with 40 wt% $Fe(PTS)_3$, as ascertained by the measured sheet resistance values down to 0.06 ${\Omega}/cm$. It clearly suggests that 20 wt% is more effective oxidant concentration for VPP than 40 wt% even though the film grown with 40 wt% oxidant has better quality than the film with 20 wt% $Fe(PTS)_3$ does.

  • Magnetoresistance(MR) in ferromagnetic thin film to make thermal evaporating method in various angle configurations were observed. The degree of transition from positive magnetoresistance to negative magnetoresistance is observed to 34 degree in anisotropy magnetoresistance experiment. In the angle configuration such that the film sample was placed perpendicular to the magnetic field, the difference of FDMP and degree of transition in iron and nickel films is observed due to the fundamental difference of magnetic easy axis.

  • The micro particle,s shapes of the magnetic films obtained by electrode position of Iron ions and Cobalt-Iron mixed ions in aluminum anodic oxidized films are dependent on the size of particle diameter. When the diameter of deposited particles is larger than $300\AA$, the film plane anisotropy caused by bottom extremity increases, and the crystalization orientation of FeC deposited unusually in the part of the bottom extremities affects on the coercive force Hc and the magnetic anisotropy energy Ku. It was confirmed that the shape anisotropy of particle affects on the both Hc and Ku because the FeC did not deposit in the Iron deposited samples entirely, but in the Cobalt-Iron alloy deposited samples, the effects by the very strong crystalization orientation of the FeC is larger than that of the shape anisotropy. From these results, the Cobalt-Iron alloyed films could switchover the film plane magnetic anisotropy to the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy by using the constrainting method of FeC deposition with Cu deposition instead of Cobalt-Iron alloy in the bottom extremities.

  • It was verified at Part Ⅰ of this investigation that there is a minimum wettability between molten iron and graphite, which was preliminarily coated with magnesium, and thus the spheroidization of graphite might have resulted from the lack of wettability between magnesium-adsorbed graphite and iron matrix. Being continued from the last work, the wettability between pure iron and graphite, coated with the various thickness of cerium, are measured at melting point of pure iron in vacuum and 200 mmHg argon gas atmosphere. The result indicates the presence of a minimum wettability at a critical thickness of cerium film as was proved in the case of magnesium. The experimental analysis shows that, the minimum wettability could be attributed entirely to a minimum work of adhesion between liquid iron and graphite at a critical concentration of cerium in the iron-graphite interface.
