A new graphite intercalation compound (GIC), n-octylammonium tetrachlorofeffate(Ⅲ)-graphite, has been derived from well-known ferric chloride graphite intercalation compound. X-ray diffration study shows that the basal spacing of this new GIC is 20.8 Å. In order to investigate the local geometry around the iron atom in the graphite layers, X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments were performed. The first discharge capacity of its exfoliated form is found to be 862 mAh/g, which is more than double the value of pristine graphite (384 mAh/g). Such a drastic increase implies that the exfoliated graphite is a promising electrode material.
We investigate the phase formation in the compound layer of cast irons during the gaseous nitrocarburising of four different cast irons, that contain different types of graphites in the shape and size. We examine the change in the surface roughness with the nitrocarburising time. The observation of cross-sectional microstructure and X-ray diffraction analysis indicate that the compound layer consists of single ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}(N,C)$ phase and that its thickness increases in a parabolic manner with the treatment time. The surface roughness parameters, Rz and Ra increase with increasing treatment time. In other words, the roughness parameters increase as the thickness of compound layer increases. The parameters also depend on the shape and size of graphite in the individual cast irons.
When the preparation method of iron silicide films possess the annealing process, the interfacial state of the films is not fine. The good quality films were obtained as the plasma was used without annealing processing. Since the injected precursors were various active species in the plasma state, the organic compound was contained in the prepared films. We confirmed the formation of Fe-Si bonds as well as the organic compound by Fe and Si vibration mode in Raman scattering spectrum at $250cm^{-1}$ and Ft-IR. Because of epitaxy growth being progressed by the high energy of plasma at the low temperature of substrate, iron silicide was epitaxially grown to ${\beta}$-phase that had lattice structure such as [220]/[202] and [115]. Band gap of the prepared films had value of 1.182~1.174 eV and optical gap energy was shown value of 3.4~3.7 eV. The Urbach tail and the sub-band-gap absorptions were appeared by organic compound in films. We knew that the prepared films by plasma were obtained a good quality films because of being grown single crystal.

LB10522 is a new parenteral broad spectrum cephalosporin with a catechol moiety at C-7 position of beta-lactam ring. This compound can utilize tonB-dependent iron transp ort system in addition to porin proteins to enter bacterial periplasmic space and access to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which are the lethal targets of ${\beta}$-lactam antibiotics. The chelating activity of LB10522 to metal iron was measured by spectrophotometrically scanning the absorbance from 200 to 900nm. When $FeCl_3$ was added, optical density was increased between 450 and 800nm. LB10522 was more active against gram-negative strains in iron-depleted media than in iron-replete media. This is due to the increased expression of iron transport channels in iron-depleted condition. LB10522 showed a similar activity against E. coli DC2 (permeability mutant) and E. coli DCO (wild type strain) in both iron-depleted and iron-replete media, indicating a minimal permeaility barrier for LB10522 uptake. LB10522 had high affinities to PBP 3 and PBP 1A, 1B of E. coli. By blocking these proteins, LB10522 caused inhibition of cell division and the eventual death of cells. This result was correlated well with the morphological changes in E. coli exposed to LB10522. Although the in vitro MIC of LB10522 against P. aeruginosa 1912E mutant (tonB) was 8-times higher than that of the P. aeruginosa 1912E parent strain, LB10522 showed a similar in vivo protection efficacy against both strains in the mouse systemic infection model. This result suggested that tonB mutant, which requires a high level of iron for normal growth, might have a difficulty in surviving in their host with an iron-limited environment.
The kind and the use of the fabrics for crown manufacture in the Baekje period has been studied by characterizing the imprinted fabrics on the crowns and the diadem ornaments from the old tomb. The contact region with the skin inside of the crown and the region between the bark of white birch and the gilt bronze openwork plates contained fabrics. The fabrics used in the gilt-bronze crown were all plain weave silk except that of Yongwonri tomb where loosely woven thin tabby was used. There have been 4-types of iron framed diadem of the Baekje, which comprise the inverted triangle-shaped diadem only with iron frame, the diadem with gold plate ornament in the iron frame, the diadem decorated with mica plate and gold plate, and the diadem with silver ornament in the iron frame. The fabrics used in the triangle shaped iron frame diadem include plain weave silk, irregular plain woven silk, thin tabby, complex silk gauze, twill weave on plain ground, and warp-faced compound weave. The iron frames were wrapped with the fabrics from one layer up to three layers, and the iron diadem was covered with one later of loosely woven textile such as irregular plain woven silk, thin tabby, and complex silk gauze. But in case of decorating the iron diadem with gold Plate ornaments, multiple layers of fabric were used to sustain the weight of the ornaments. The fabrics in the iron diadem frame were sewed with running stitch, overedge stitch or hemming stitch, diagonal hemming stitch, half back stitch), and overcast stitch.
In this study, the (phosphorous removal) the characteristics of phosphorous removal due to (the iron compound precipitated) iron compound precipitation by iron electrolysis in (the anoxic. oxic process) anoxic and oxic processes (equipped with the) in an iron precipitation device were analyzed. During the device operation period, the average concentration of BOD, T-N, and T-P were 219.9 mg/l, 54.6 mg/l and 6.71 mg/l, respectively. The BOD/$COD_{Cr}$ ratio was 0.74, and the BOD/T-N and BOD/T-P ratios were 4.0 and 32.8, respectively. The removal rate of (the organic matters) organic matter (BOD and $COD_{Cr}$) was very high at 91.6% or higher, and that of nitrogen was 80.5%. The phosphorous concentration (of the final) in the treated water was 0.43 mg/l (0.05-0.74 mg/l) on average, and the removal efficiency was high at 90.8%. The soluble T-P concentrations in (an) the anoxic reactor, oxic reactor (II) and final treated water were 1.99 mg/l, 0.79 mg/l and 0.43 mg/l, respectively, which indicated that the phosphorous concentration in the treated water was very low. Regardless of the changes in the concentrations of (organic matters) organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorous in the influent, the quality of the treated water was relatively stable and high. The removal rate of T-P somewhat increased with the increase in the F/M ratio in the influent, and it also linearly increased in proportion to the T-P loading rate in the influent. In the treatment process used in this study, phosphorous was removed (using) by the precipitated iron oxide. Therefore, the consumption of organic (matters) matter for biological phosphorus removal was minimized and (most of the organic matters were) was mostly used as the organic carbon source for the denitrification in the anoxic reactor. This (can be an economic) treatment process (without the need for the supply of additional organic matters) is economic and does not require the supply of additional organic matter.

An alternative to pump and treat groundwater remediation is the use of reactive barriers. Zero valent iron (ZVI) is particularly useful as a reductant of chlorinated hydrocarbons because of its low cost and lack of toxicity ZVI can drive the dechlorination of chlorinated organic compounds and the reduction of chromium from the Cr(Ⅵ) to the Cr(III) state. The contaminants in subsurface environment usually exist as the mixed compounds. Therefore, the objective of this research is to study the effect of the other compounds on TCE removal by ZVI. The removal mechanism of TCE by ZVI is separated the dechlorination and sorption. TCE removal by ZVI slightly increased in presence of naphthalene as the non-reduced compound. TCE removal by ZVI remarkable decreased in presence of carbon tetrachloride, nitrate, and chromate as the reduced compounds. This research suggests that the effect of the coexisted compounds on the removal chlorinated compounds by reactive barrier technology should be considered for practical application.
In this study we have investigated the effects of Mm, MmH and $MmH_2$ on the matrix development in cast iron, The conclusive summary is as follows: The spheroidal graphite was observed when 0.5wt.% or more of mischmetal was added and the matrix was of ledeburite structure, but bull's eye structure was not observed. On the other hand, the bull's eye structure was observed when 0.25wt.% of MmH, or 0.25wt.% to 0.5wt.% of $MmH_2$ was added. Above limit of the additives, the matrix changed into ledeburite structure. As the hydrogen content of mischmetal compound increased from MmH, the range of additives to obtain bull's eye structure expanded. This reveals the significant effect of mischmetal hydride on matrix development in cast iron and the possibility of practical use of the additives.
Alkyliron(Ⅲ) porphyrins, n-butyliron(Ⅲ) tetraphenylporphyrin, (TPP)Fe-Bu and n-butyliron(Ⅲ) tetrakis-(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin, $(F_{20}TPP)Fe-Bu$ have been evaluated as suitable for olefin free-radical polymerization. Butyl radicals dissociated from n-butyliron(Ⅲ) porphyrin initiated the polymerization reaction, but the ratio of the propagation was low. The GCMS analysis of the reaction mixture of nbutyliron(Ⅲ) porphyrin and styrene has revealed several products containing two butyl groups, while traces of b-hydrogen-abstracted products were observed. The crystal structure of (TPP)Fe-Bu has been determined. The structure of the n-butyliron(Ⅲ) porphyrin reveals the compound containing five-coordinated iron with the average Fe-N distance of 1.973(1) Å and Fe-C of 2.030(2) Å. The iron atom is displaced by 0.137Å from a four nitrogen mean plane. Crystal system is triclinic, and space group is P-1.
The iron aluminides have been among the most widely studied intermetallics because of their low cost, low density, good wear resistance, ease of fabrication and resistance to oxidation and corrosion. In this study, weld overlay was performed with JIS-YGW11 and A14043 wire on the base metal.
