주형에서 석탄분 첨가제(시콜)에 의한 주철주물의 소착억제기구에 관하여 (The Mechanism of Inhibiting Burn-on Sand to Iron Castings by Coal-dust (Seacoal) for a Molding Sand Additive.)

  • The mechanism of coal-dust action on inhibiting burn-on of Sand to iron castings was taken in consideration by means of casting test and thermal decomposition test. To compare the ability of inhibiting sand burn-on, test castings were produced in green sand moulds added three different coal-rusts. And quantitative determination of lustrous carbon and volatiles production for coal-dust samples were performed.The lustrous carbon production was in good agreement with the casting test result. But total voltiles production was relatively inefficient on hibiting sand burn-on to test castings.The lustrous carbon theory can be given to explain the mechanism which coal-dust inhibits sand burn-on to iron castings.

충주 수룡리 원모롱이 야철지 수습 철재 및 노벽의 과학적 분석 (Scientific Analysis of Slags and Furnace Wall collected from Iron Production Site at Suryong-ri Wonmorongi in Chungju)

  • 충주 수룡이 원모롱이 야철지에서 수습한 슬래그와 노벽을 분석하여 제철관련 정보를 알아보고자 하였다. 슬래그의 전철량은 36.98~44.47wt%이며 이는 고대 제철조업에서 나타나는 일반적인 철 회수율이다. 슬래그에 포함된 CaO는 노벽에 포함된 0.36wt%보다 많으므로 조재제로서 제련 시 의도적으로 첨가한 것으로 추정된다. 노벽의 경우 $Al_2O_3$의 함량이 낮아 고알루미나질의 내화점토를 사용하지 않은 것으로 획인되었다. 슬래그의 미세조직과 주성분 분석을 통해 Fayalite와 Wustite가 나타난 No.1~3 슬래그는 철광석으로 제련한 것으로 보인다. 그러나 No. 4 슬래그의 경우 $TiO_2$을 함유한 Ulvospinel이 나타나 사철을 이용하여 제련했을 가능성이 높다. 그러므로 이 지역에서는 제철 원료로서 철광석과 함께 사철도 이용하였을 가능성이 있으며 노벽은 $Al_2O_3$의 함량이 낮은 일반점토를 사용하여 제작한 것으로 보인다.

티타늄 용사피막을 이용한 주철의 레이저 표면합금화 (Laser Assisted Surface Alloying of Cast Iron with Thermal Sprayed Titanium Coatings)

  • Commercial flake graphite cast iron substrate was coated with titanium powder by low pressure plasma spraying and was irradiated with a $CO_2$ laser to produce the wear resistant composite layer. From the experimental results of this study, it was possible to composite TiC particles on the surface layer by direct reaction between carbon existed in the cast iron matrix and titanium with thermal sprayed coating by remelting and alloying them using laser irradiation. The cooling rate of laser remelted cast iron substrate without titanium coating was about $1{\times}10^4$ K/s to $1{\times}10^5$ K/s in the order under the condition used in this study. The microstructure of alloyed layer consisted of three zones, that is, TiC particule crystallized zone (MHV $400{\sim}500$), the mixed zone of TiC particule+ledebulite (MHV $650{\sim}900$) and the ledebulite zone (MHV $500{\sim}700$). TiC particules were crystallized as a typical dendritic morphology. The secondary TiC dendrite arms were grown to the polygonized shape and were necking. And then the separated arms became cubic crystal of TiC at the slowly solidified zone. But in the rapidly solidified zone of fusion boundry, the fine granular TiC particules were grouped like grape.

  • 산화철의 국제동향에 대하여 각 지역간의 수출입동향과 최근에 급속하게 성장하고 잇는 중국의 산화철업계 동향에 대하여 소개하였다. 특히 세계 산화철 교역량은 산화철업계의 기술발전과 각국이 처한 환경에 따라 변화하며, 산화철의 주요용도중 하나인 안료용도의 경우 건축경기에 큰 영향을 받는다. 중국의 산화철업계는 전반적으로 크게 성장한 반면 다국적 기업의 진출에 따른 기술력 향상과 반대급부로 경쟁력 약한 중국내 기업정리등이 수반되었다. 산화철산업의 발전을 위하여는 타소재와의 가격경쟁력도 중요하지만 새로운 응용분야의 개척이 필요하다. 본 기술자료에서는 최근에 관심이 집중되는 산화철 나노분말의 신용도 및 특성에 대하여 소개하였다.

Evaluation of δ-Aminolevulinic Acid on Serum Iron Status, Blood Characteristics, Egg Performance and Quality in Laying Hens

  • Effects of dietary ${\delta}$-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) supplementation on serum iron status, blood characteristics, egg production and quality were examined in laying hens in an 8-week feeding trail. Two hundred and forty (Hy-line brown, 40-week-old) layers were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments with ten replications (six layers in adjacent three cages). Dietary treatments included: 1) CON (basal diet), 2) ALA1 (CON+ALA 5 ppm), 3) ALA2 (CON+ALA 10 ppm) and 4) ALA3 (CON+ALA 15 ppm). All nutrient levels of diets were formulated to meet or exceed NRC (1994) recommendations for laying hens. During the entire experimental period, differences of serum iron concentration and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) were significantly increased in ALA1 supplemented treatment (quadratic effect, p<0.05). The difference of total protein between 8 and 0 weeks was significantly higher in ALA2 treatment than CON treatment (quadratic effect, p<0.05). No significant effects were observed on hemoglobin, WBC, RBC, lymphocyte and albumin concentrations. Egg production and egg weight were not influenced by the ALA supplementation. Egg yolk index was also significantly higher in ALA3 treatment than CON treatment at the end of 4 and 8 weeks (linear effect, p<0.05). Haugh unit was increased in ALA3 treatment compared to CON and ALA1 treatments at the end of 8 weeks (linear effect, p<0.05). However, egg shell thickness, breaking strength and yolk color unit were not affected by the ALA supplementation. In conclusion, dietary ALA supplementation at a level of 5 ppm can affect iron concentration in serum while higher levels (10 or 15 ppm) have some beneficial influences on blood profiles and egg quality.

Neutron imaging for metallurgical characteristics of iron products manufactured with ancient Korean iron making techniques

  • This paper demonstrates the possible nondestructive analysis of iron artifacts' metallurgical characteristics using neutron imaging. Ancient kingdoms of the Korean Peninsula used a direct smelting process for ore smelting and iron bloom production; however, the use of iron blooms was difficult because of their low strength and purity. For reinforcement, iron ingots were produced through refining and forge welding, which then underwent various processes to create different iron goods. To demonstrate the potential analysis using neutron imaging, while ensuring artifacts' safety, a sand iron ingot (SI-I) produced using ancient traditional iron making techniques and a sand iron knife (SI-K) made of SI-I were selected. SI-I was cut into 9 cm2, whereas the entirety of SI-K was preserved for analysis. SI-I was found to have an average grain size of 3 ㎛, with observed α-Fe (ferrite) and pearlite with a body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice structure. SI-K had a grain size of 1-3 ㎛, α-Ferrite on its backside, and martensite with a body-centered tetragonal (BCT) structure on its blade. Results show that the sample's metallurgical characteristics can be identified through neutron imaging only, without losing any part of the valuable artifacts, indicating applicability to cultural artifacts requiring complete preservation.

Vibrio mimicus ATCC 33653이 생산하는 Siderophore의 정제와 균의 병원성에 미치는 영향 (Purification Siderophore from Vibrio mimicus ATCC 33653 and its Effect to Bacterial Pathogenecity)

  • Growth under conditions of iron-restriction and the production of siderophore was examined in Vibrio mimicus ATCC 33653. This strain grew and multiplied in the presence of the high-affinity iron chelators ethylenediamine-di (o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid). Chrome azurol S (CAS) agar and solution were used to detect the production of siderophore under these condition. Siderophore could be detected in the iron-restricted culture supernatants. The siderophore was extracted from iron-restricted culture supernatants by phenol-chloroform-ether method and purified by Dowex ion-exchange and Sephadex G-25 gel filtracton chromatography. The purified siderophore was confirmed by paper chromatography and HPLC. The Purified siderophore enhanced the growth of V. mimicus when the bacterium was grown in iron limited medium. Injection of both the siderohore and the bacteria to mice resulted in more rapid death than that of the only bacteria. However, the siderophore did not show lethality to mice and any toxicity to cell line like HeLa and U937.

Cadmium increases ferroportin-1 gene expression in J774 macrophage cells via the production of reactive oxygen species

  • Cadmium intoxication has been associated with the dysregulation of iron homeostasis. In the present study, we investigated the effect of cadmium on the expression of ferroportin 1 (FPN1), an important iron transporter protein that is involved in iron release from macrophages. When we incubated cadmium with J774 mouse macrophage cells, FPN1 mRNA levels were significantly increased in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Furthermore, the cadmium-induced FPN1 mRNA expression was associated with increased levels of FPN1 protein. On the other hand, cadmium-mediated FPN1 mRNA induction in J774 cells was completely blocked when cells were co-treated with a transcription inhibitor, acitomycin D. Also, cadmium directly stimulated the activity of the FPN1-promoter driven luciferase reporter, suggesting that the cadmium up-regulates FPN1 gene expression in a transcription-dependent manner. Finally, cadmium exposure to J774 macrophages increased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels by ${\sim}2$-fold, compared to untreated controls. When J774 cells were co-treated with antioxidant N-acetylcystein, the cadmium-induced FPN1 mRNA induction was significantly attenuated. In summary, the results of this study clearly demonstrated that cadmium increased FPN1 expression in macrophages through a mechanism that involves ROS production, and suggests another important interaction between iron and cadmium metabolism.

컴퓨터 편기를 사용한 철화자기 문양의 편성에 관한 연구 (Study on Computer Knitting for Patterns on Porcelain of Underglaze Iron)

  • Because of comfortable texture and easy treatment, more and more knit products has been required for leisure such as sports, traveling, hobbies, and various social activities. Therefore, the demand of knit is gradually increasing in the clothing industry. There are, however, several issues, which require solutions, and we must develop higher value-added products, which differentiate from those of developing countries allowing us to compete and win in the world market. The patterns on porcelain of underglaze iron, which had been popular from late-l5th century to mid-16th century, are diverse, unique, and traditional--so valuable patterns of our own. The computer hitting machine enables the designer to conceive new designs and produce samples of fabrics within a few minutes, which allows us to save time for mass production. Therefore, it is an essential tool for the knitting industry. After collecting, analyzing, and choosing various patterns on porcelains of underglaze iron, This study reflects the actual experience of hitting the fabrics with the patterns through the computer knitting machine which is also used to produce patterns after designing the new patterns through Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, which has several merits. This article compares and analyzes them for production, which uses the patterns that has been designed from the patterns on porcelains of underglaze iron.

The Iron loss Estimation of IPMSM According to Current Phase Angle

  • Variable iron loss as function of current phase angle of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) was calculated through Curve Fitting Method(CFM). Also, a magnetic flux density distribution of iron core according to current phase angle was analyzed, and an iron loss calculation was performed including harmonic distortion. The experiment was performed by production of non-magnetizing model for the separation of mechanical loss, and the iron loss was calculated by the measurement of input using power analyzer and output power using dynamometer. Some error was generated between experimental results and calculation value, but an iron loss diminution according to current phase angle followed a same pattern. So, errors were generated by measurement, vibration, noise, harmonic distortion loss, etc.
