The pulsed power system is widely used for many industries and environments. Generally, we call the "RUST", the reddish brown surface, that was made on iron surface or some other metals, when they are contacted by water and air the main substance of rust is oxide-ionization. In other words, the chemical symbol of rust on iron surface is iron oxide(III) hydrate Fe203.nH2O. In this study, we have designed and fabricated our system which has a compact pulse generator with switching MOSFET. Also we have studied the metal-oxide removing characteristics using in the atmospheric arc discharge. It has been investigated their removing characteristics by the change of charging voltage and pulse repetition rates. From this result, we can find out that the removal area Is increased from 3.80 to 8.04[$\textrm{cm}^2$], when pulse duration is increased from 100[pps] to 400[pps]. 400[pps].
This study was carried out to investigate the settling characteristics of Fe(II) and Fe(III) hydroxide precipitates formed by pH adjustment of aqueous solution to remove ferrous and ferric ion in waste water. The results obstained in this study are as fellows : The settling rate was effectively increased with increasing the pH values of aqueous solution regulated by CaO and with increasing the amount of flocculant, on the other hand, application of excess flocculants decreased the settling rate. It is desirable that the concentration of iron ion is kept under $10^{-2}$ mol/ㅣ because the settling rate was decreased with increasing the concentration of iron hydroxide precipitates.
The $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ gas sensor, prepared by the precipitation of Fe(OH)$_3$ from a solution of iron(III) sulfate and tin (IV) chloride, was composed of fine particles and was superior in sensitivity to other $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$. The gas sensitivity was found to depend on the amounts of remaining sulfate ion the microstructure and a small amount of iron(II) species generated through the reduction of $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$. The sensing mechanism of $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$gas sensor was confirmed to be due to the reduction of $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ to the low resistive Fe$_3$-xO$_4$ by combustible gas and to depend on the crystral structure.

This study estimated vegetation environment and agricultural activity during the late Holocene inferred from pollen analysis of peat on floodplain of Wangpo-cheon around Neungsan-ri, Buyeo-gun, South Korea. By result of pollen analysis of 28 horizons from Trench NS 1 and NS 4, vegetation environment during 2,300 to 1,700 yr BP was divided into Pollen Zone I (Quercus-Alnus), Pollen Zone II (Quercus-Alnus-Gramineae) and Pollen Zone III (Pinus-NAP-Gramineae). The pollen analysis suggests that agricultural activity in the Buyeo area was widely spread from the early time of the Pre-Iron Age to the late Samhan Age and buckwheat field seem to be built to substitute paddy field during the early time of the Pre-Iron Age.
Synthesis of nanoparticles using green technology using plants is gaining significant attention as it is an environmentally friendly substitute to conventional physical and chemical methods. The present study was focused on the chemical and green synthesis of Iron Oxide nanoparticles from ferric chloride. The green synthesis was achieved by utilizing the bio components of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles with the size range of 87-400 nm were synthesized by wet chemical reduction technique which are unstable, prone to aggregation while in green synthesis the phytochemicals present in the leaf extract acts as the capping as well as the reducing agent thus the green synthesized iron (III) oxide nanoparticles were naturally stabilized, spherical shaped and are in the size range of 2-80 nm. The results of both the protocols are compared and presented briefly.

Tricyclopentadiene (TCPD) as a next generation high density fuel was synthesized by Diels-Alder oligomerization reaction of DCPD. TCPD was prepared by ionic liquid (IL) catalysts with combination of cationic and anionic precursors. Two kinds of anionic precursors such as copper(I) chloride (CuCl) and iron(III) chloride ($FeCl_3$) and cationic precursors such as triethylamine hydrochloride (TEAC) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIC) were used. The preparation of TCPD using IL catalyst was superior to that using Diels-Alder reaction in terms of DCPD conversion and TCPD yield. In addition, TCPD yield was correlated with Lewis acidity by changing the ratio of anionic and cationic precursors. The TCPD yield was higher when using CuCl as anionic precursor than that of using $FeCl_3$. Control of Lewis acidity by changing the molar ratio of anionic and cationic precursors could further improve TCPD yield as well.
Hydrothermal vents (HTV) provide special environments for evolution of lives independent on solar energy. HTV samples were gained from Tofua arc trench in Tonga, South Pacific. We investigated archaeal diversity enriched using combinations of various electron donors (yeast extract and $H_2$) and electron acceptors [Iron (III), elemental sulfur ($S^0$) and nitrate. PCR amplification was performed to detect archaeal 16S rRNA genes after the cultures were incubated $65^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks. The cultures showing archaeal growth were transferred using the dilution-to-extinction method. 16S rRNA gene PCR-Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis was used to identify the enriched archaea in the highest dilutions where archaeal growth was observed. Most of cultured archaea belonged to genus of Thermococcus (T. alcaliphilius, T. litoralis, T. celer, T. barossii, T. thoreducens, T. coalescens) with 98-99% 16S rRNA gene similarities. Interestingly, archaeal growth was observed in the cultures with Iron (III) and nitrate as an electron acceptor. It was supposed that archaea might use the elemental sulfur generated from oxidation of the reducing agent, sulfide. To cultivate diverse archaea excluding Thermococcus, it would be required to use other reducing agents instead of sulfide.

Four well-characterized soils collected from A- and B-horizon in the Department of Energy Oak Ridge Reservation in USA, mainly distributed with Inceptisol(Inc) and Ultisol(Ult) soils, were used in this work. The bioaccessibility of arsenic as well as oxidation phenomena of As(III) was investigated with soils spiked with As(III) and As(V) using a physiologically based extraction test(PBET) at pH 1.5 and 1:100 soil to solution ratio. Also effect of aging time on the bioaccessibility of arsenic was investigated over the 6 months. After 48 hours(fresh) contacting As(V) solution with soils, all soils rapidly and strongly sequestrated As(V), especially Ult-B. However, little sequestration was observed after 3-months. When As(III) was spiked on the same soils, a great portion of As(III) was oxidized to As(V) after 48 hrs, especially Inc-A and Ult-A soils, which is strongly related with Mn content in soils. By using As(III)-spiked soils, much reduced bioaccessibility as total arsenic was observed from Inc-B and Ult-B soils over the 6 months aging time compared to that from Inc-A and Ult-A soils. This result can be explained by the continuous sequestration of As(V), produced from oxidation of As(III), onto Inc-B and Ult-B soils having much amount of iron. The trend of As(III) sequestration over six months aging time was quite similar with that of As(V) sequestration.
Glass transition temperature (T/sub g/) is proportional to the quadrupole splitting(Δ) of Fe(III) obtained from the /sup 57/Fe Mossbauer spectra (T/sub g/-Δ rule (1990)). The values of Δ reflect the distortion of Fe(III) atoms, which occupy the sites of network-forming atoms. Heat treatment of potassium vanadate and calcium gallate glasses at around the individual T/sub g/ causes a structural relaxation, accompanying a linear decrease of T/sub g/ and Δ values. These experimental results prove that T/sub g/ decreases with a decrease in the distortion of VO₄, GaO₄, and FeO₄tetrahedra, as the T/sub g/-Δ rule predicted.

This paper presents development of a different substance monitoring system base reliable detection between the conveyer belt and hopper used for materials transport line of steel company. Conventional detection method of a piece of iron separation system is losed the confidence, because of the place with bad surroundings of measurement so much that materials production line are completely exposed to dust, moisture and vibration. For the solution of this problem, we developed a different substance detection system using the acoustic emittion sensor and one chip microprocessor which is available for bad surroundings and inexpensive. The reliability of the system was estimated by experiment.
