The photodissociation dynamics of 1,2-bromochloroethane ($C_2H_4BrCl$) was investigated near 234 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion-imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization scheme was utilized to obtain speed and angular distributions of the nascent Br($^2P_{3/2}$) and Br${\ast}($^2P_{1/2}$) atoms. The total translational energy distributions for the Br and Br${\ast}$ channels were well characterized by Gaussian functions with average translational energies of 100 and 84 kJ/mol, respectively. The recoil anisotropies for the Br and Br${\ast}$ channels were measured to be ${\beta}$ = 0.49 ${\pm}$ 0.05 for Br and 1.55 ${\pm}$ 0.05 for Br${\ast}$. The relative quantum yield for Br${\ast}$ was found to be ${\Phi}_{Br{\ast}}$ = 0.33 ${\pm}$ 0.03. The probability of nonadiabatic transition between A' states was estimated to be 0.46. The relevant nonadiabatic dynamics is discussed in terms of interaction between potential energy surfaces in Cs symmetry.
Bisphenol A is widely used in plastic and other industrial consumer products. Release of bisphenol A and its analogues into the aquatic environment during manufacture, use and disposal has been a great scientific and public concern due to their toxicity and endocrine disrupting effects on aquatic wildlife and even human beings. More recent studies have shown that these alkylphenols may affect the molting processes and survival of crustacean species such as American lobster, crab and shrimp. In this study, we have developed gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) methods for the determination of bisphenol A and its analogues in shrimp Macrobrachium rosenbergii, blue crab Callinectes sapidus and American lobster Homarus americanus samples. Bisphenol A, 2,4-bis-(dimethylbenzyl)phenol and 4-cumylphenol were found in shrimp in the concentration ranges of 0.67-5.51, 0.36-1.61, and < LOD (the limit of detection)-1.96 ng/g (wet weight), and in crab of 0.10-0.44, 0.13-0.62, and 0.26-0.58 ng/g (wet weight), respectively. In lobster tissue samples, bisphenol A, 2-t-butyl-4-(dimethylbenzyl)phenol, 2,6-bis-(t-butyl)-4-(dimethylbenzyl)phenol, 2,4-bis-(dimethybenzyl)phenol, 2,4-bis-(dimethylbenzyl)-6-t-butylphenol and 4-cumylphenol were determined at the concentration ranges of 4.48-7.01, 1.23-2.63, 2.71-9.10, 0.35-0.91, 0.64-3.25, and 0.44-1.00 ng/g (wet weight), respectively. At these concentration levels, BPA and its analogs may interfere the reproduction and development of crustaceans, such as larval survival, molting, metamorphosis and shell hardening.

In this study several lanthanide complexes such as Eu(TTA)$_3$(Phen), Tb(ACAC)$_3$-(Cl-Phen) were synthesized and the white-light electroluminescence(EL) characteristics of their thin films were investigated where the devices having structures of anode/TPD/Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Cl-Phen)/Eu(TTA)$_3$(Phen)/Alq$_3$or Bebq$_2$/cathode and the low work function metal alloy such as Li:Al was used as the electron injecting electrode(cathode). Device structure of glass substrate/ITO/TPD(30nm)/Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen)(30nm)/Eu(TTA)$_3$(Phen)(6nm)/DCM doped Alq$_3$(10nm)/Alq$_3$(20nm)/Li:Al(100nm) was also fabricated and their EL characteristics were investigated where Eu(TTA)$_3$(Phen) and DCM doped Alq$_3$were used as red light-emitting materials. It was found that the turn-on voltage of the device with non-doped Alq$_3$was lower than that of the devices with doped Alq$_3$and the blue and red light emission peaks due to TPD and Eu(TTA)$_3$(Phen) with non-doped Alq$_3$were lower than those with DCM doped Alq$_3$Details on the white-light-emitting characteristics of these device structures were explained by the energy and diagrams of various materials used in these structure where the energy levels of new materials such as ionization potential(IP) and electron affinity(EA) were measured by cyclic voltametric method.
Vacuum ultraviolet photolysis of ethyl bromide was studied at 104.8-106.7 nm (11.4-11.6 eV) in the pressure range of 0.2-18.6 torr at $25^{\circ}$ using an argon resonance lamp with and without additives, i.e., NO and He. Since the ionization potential of $CH_3CH_2Br$ is lower than the photon energy, the competitive processes between the photoionization and the photodecomposition were also investigated. The observations indicated that 50% of absorbed light leads to the former process and the rest to the latter one. In the absence of NO the principal reaction products for the latter process were found to be $CH_4, C_2H_2, C_2H_4, C_2H_6, and C_3H_8$. The product quantum yields of these reaction products showed two strikingly different phenomena with an increase in reactant pressure. The major products, $C_2H_4$ and $C_2H_6$, showed positive effects with pressure whereas the effects on minor products were negative in both cases, i.e., He and reactant pressures. Addition of NO completely suppresses the formation of all products except $C_2H_4$ and reduces the $C_2H_4$ quantum yield. These observations are interpreted in view of existence of two different electronically excited states. The initial formation of short-lived Rydberg transition state undergoes HBr molecular elimination and this state can across over by collisional induction to a second excited state which decomposes exclusively by carbon-bromine bond fission. The estimated lifetime of the initial excited state was ${\sim}4{\times}10^{-10}$ sec. The extinction coefficient for $CH_3CH_2Br$ at 104.8-106.7 nm and $25{\circ}$ was determined to be ${varepsilon} = (1/PL)ln(I_0/I_t) = 2061{\pm}160atm^{-1}cm6{-1}$ with 95% confidence level.
In the present study we evaluated comparative herb-drug interaction potential of red ginseng total powder, ginsenoside Rg1, and Rb1 by inhibition of CYP isoforms including CYP1A2, CYP2A6, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1 and CYP3A4 using pooled human liver microsomes (HLMs). As measured by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry, red ginseng total powder inhibited significantly activities of CYP1A2, CYP2A6, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1 and testosterone 6-beta hydroxylation by CYP3A4, but the $IC_{50}$ values were higher than $556{\mu}g/ml$. Activities of CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 were inhibited by ginsenoside Rb1. Also, activities of CYP1A2, CYP2A6, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6 and testosterone 6-beta hydroxylation by CYP3A4 were inhibited by ginsenoside Rg1. The $IC_{50}$ values of ginsenoside Rb1 and Rg1 were higher than $200{\mu}g/ml$. Based on $IC_{50}$ values against CYP isoforms, ginsenosides-drug interactions by CYP inhibition may be very low in clinical situations.
Bovine milk is widely consumed by humans and is a primary ingredient of dairy foods. Proteomic approaches have the potential to elucidate complex milk proteins and have been used to study milk of various species. Here, we performed a proteomic analysis using 2-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS) to identify whey proteins in bovine milk obtained soon after parturition (bovine early milk). The major casein proteins were removed, and the whey proteins were analyzed with 2-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE). The whey proteins (2 mg) were separated by pI and molecular weight across pH ranges of 3.0 - 10.0 and 4.0 - 7.0. The 2-DE gels held about 300 to 700 detectable protein spots. We randomly picked 12 and nine spots that were consistently expressed in the pH 3.0 - 10.0 and pH 4.0 - 7.0 ranges, respectively. Following MALDI-TOF MS analysis, the 21 randomly selected proteins included proteins known to be present in bovine milk, such as albumin, lactoferrin, serum albumin precursor, T cell receptor, polymeric immunoglobulin receptor, pancreatic trypsin inhibitor, aldehyde oxidase and microglobulin. These proteins have major functions in immune responses, metabolism and protein binding. In summary, we herein identified both known and novel whey proteins present in bovine early milk, and our sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis revealed their expression pattern.
The genus Paenibacillus contains a variety of biologically active compounds that have potential applications in a range of fields, including medicine, agriculture, and livestock, playing an important role in the health and economy of society. Our study focused on the bacterium SS4T (KCTC 43402T = GDMCC 1.3498T), which was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. This strain was analyzed using antiSMASH, BAGEL4, and PRISM to predict the secondary metabolites. Lassopeptide clusters were found using all three analysis methods, with the possibility of secretion. Additionally, PRISM found three biosynthetic gene clusters (BGC) and predicted the structure of the product. Genome analysis indicated that glucoamylase is present in SS4T. 16S rRNA sequence analysis showed that strain SS4T most closely resembled Paenibacillus marchantiophytorum DSM 29850T (98.22%), Paenibacillus nebraskensis JJ-59T (98.19%), and Paenibacillus aceris KCTC 13870T (98.08%). Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences and Type Strain Genome Server (TYGS) analysis revealed that SS4T belongs to the genus Paenibacillus based on the results of the phylogenetic analysis. As a result of the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/MS) results, SS4T was determined to belong to the genus Paenibacillus. Comparing P. marchantiophytorum DSM 29850T with average nucleotide identity (ANI 78.97%) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH 23%) revealed values that were all less than the threshold for bacterial species differentiation. The results of this study suggest that strain SS4T can be classified as a Paenibacillus andongensis species and is a novel member of the genus Paenibacillus.

This study aimed to prepare antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) dispersion with high stability. The methods to achieve this goal were sought by investigating the changes of ATO particle size, size distribution, dispersion property as wet ball milling treatment time increased. And the changes of wet ball milled ATO dispersion property were also investigated, as pH increased. The changes of ATO particle size and size distribution, according to wet ball milling treatment time were evaluated with laser diffraction particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The changes of ATO dispersion property, as wet ball milling treatment time and pH increased, were evaluated with zeta potential analysis and Turbiscan. By 60 min wet ball milling treatment time, ATO particle size decreased and size distribution became narrower, as the treatment time increased. After 60 min milling, the ATO particle size decreased to less than 30% of the initial size and the size distribution was narrowed to $0.1{\sim}5{\mu}m$ from $1{\sim}35{\mu}m$. However, more than 60 min milling, ATO particles aggregated and the particle size increased. ATO dispersion stability also increased as the treatment time and pH increased because the reduced particle size increased particle surface energy and repulsion between particles and the increased pH enhanced particle surface ionization. Hence, after proper length of wet ball milling treatment, highly stable ATO dispersion can be prepared, as increasing pH of the dispersion.
This study isolated and purified the antimicrobial peptide McSSP-31 from an acidified hemocyte extract of a Mytilus coruscus. The antimicrobial peptide was purified by using a $C_{18}$ reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The peptide was determined to be 3330.549 Da by matrix assisted-laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrophotometer (MALDI-TOF/MS). The N-terminus of a 14 amino-acid sequence was identified as P-S-P-T-R-R-S-T-S-R-S-K-S-R by Edman degradation method. The acquired sequence showed a 93% similarity with the sperm-specific protein Phi-1, which is from M. californianus. The identified open-reading frame (ORF) of peptide was 306 bp encoding 101 amino acids, which was analyzed by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE), cloning and sequencing analysis. We compared the full sequence with other known proteins that reveal the sperm-specific protein Phi-1 (93.5%) of M. californianus. Synthesized antimicrobial peptide (McSSP-31) showed antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria including B. subtilis, S. mutans, S. aureus and gram-negative bacteria including E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis, P. aeruginosa and fungi, C. albicans. Also, synthesized peptide showed strong antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant strains, including S. aureus. The cytotoxicity of the peptide was determined by using the HUVEC human cell line. The peptide did not exhibit any significant cytotoxic effects on the normal human cell line, and it had very low hemolytic activity with flounder hemoglobin. The results demonstrated that peptide purified from the hemocyte of a M. coruscus exhibits antibacterial activity against various bacteria and has the potential to be an alternative antibiotic agent.
BACKGROUND: This study was performed for the identification and quantification of glucosinolate (GSL) contents in seven varieties of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) sprouts cultivated under dark and light conditions. METHODS AND RESULTS: Crude glucosinolates (GSLs) were desulfated by treating with aryl sulfatase and purified using diethylaminoethyl sepharose (DEAE) anion exchange column. Individual GSLs were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS). Eleven GSLs including six aliphatic (progoitrin, sinigrin, glucoalyssin, gluconapoleiferin, gluconapin, and glucobrassicanapin), four indolyl (4-hydroxyglucobrassicin, glucobrassicin, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin, and neoglucobrassicin) and one aromatic (gluconasturtiin) were identified based on the fragmentation patterns of MS spectrum. Aliphatic GSLs were noted as the predominant group with average 85.2% of the total contents. The most abundant GSLs were progoitrin which was ranged at $8.14-118.68{\mu}mol/g$ dry weight (DW). The highest total GSL amounts were documented in 'Hanra' ($146.02{\mu}mol/g$ DW) under light condition and 'Mokpo No. 68' ($86.67{\mu}mol/g$ DW) in dark condition, whereas the lowest was in 'Tamra' (30.13 and $14.50{\mu}mol/g$ DW) in both conditions. The sum of aliphatic GSLs attributed > 80% in all varieties, except 'Tamra' (67.7% and 64.9% in dark and light conditions, respectively) in the total GSL accumulation. Indolyl GSLs were ranged $2.41-15.73{\mu}mol/g$ DW, accounted 2.78-33.6% of the total GSLs in rapeseed varieties. CONCLUSION(S): These results provide valuable information regarding potential beneficial GSL contents individually. This study attempts to contribute to knowledge of the nutritional properties of the different varieties of rapeseed plants. These results may be useful for the evaluation of dietary information.
