  • Ionic palladium(II) complex, [($Me_4en)Pd(L)]_2(ClO_4)_4\;(Me_4$en = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine; L = bis-(4-(4-pyridylcarboxyl)phenyl)methane), allows to form a monodisperse submicrosphere without any template or additive. Surface-perchlorates on the submicrosphere have been exchanged by anionic pH indicators such as thymol blue, bromothymol blue, and bromocresol green. The ionic and amphiphilic properties of the palladium(II) complex appear to be primarily associated with the formation and easy surface-anion exchange of submicrosphere. The surface-anion exchange through the electrostatic interaction is a very good tool for the surface-modification. The color of the pH indicator-exchanged submicrospheres is very sensitive to pH and Hg$^{2+}$ cation, and thus they are promising to submicrospherical indicators.

  • Ionic palladium(II) complex containing a long aliphatic chain, [(tmeda)$PdL]_2(PF_6)_4$ (tmeda = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine; L = decylmethylbis(m-pyridyl)silane) allowed to form a puckered submicrosphere morphology without any template or additive. The puckered spheres reversibly adsorb and desorb dioxane molecules. Coligand and cosolvent effects on the formation of submicrospherical morphology were observed.

  • Reaction of [(bpy)Pd]$(PF_6)_2$ (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) with racemic bis(isonicotinoyl)-1,1'-bi-2-naphtholate (L) in acetone, and followed by addition of chloroform and solvent evaporation allows to form amorphous micro-bowl morphology consisting of $[(bpy)PdL]_2(PF_6)_4$ without any template or additive. In contrast, the reaction and recrystallization in acetone for 1 week produce parallel-piped single crystals consisting of $[(bpy)_3Pd_3({\mu}_3-HPO_4)_2](PF_6)_2$. The formations of micro-bowl and parallel-piped single crystal morphologies appear to be primarily associated with the kinetic and thermodynamic control, respectively. The formation of micro-bowls may be attributed to eruption of organic solvents. Cosolvent effects and chemical properties on the formation of micro-bowl morphology have been observed.
