서울 地域 降水中 이온成分 分析資料의 解析 (Interpretation of Analytical Data of Ion Components in Precipitation, Seoul)

  • Precipitation samples were collected by the wet-only sampling method at Seoul from September 1993 to June 1995. Sample were analysed for the anions $(NO_3^-, NO_2^-, SO_4^{2-}, Cl^-, and F^-)$ and cations $(Na^+, K^+, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}, and NH_4^+)$ in addition to pH and electric conductivity. In order to establish the chemical analysis data of high quality, the assurance checks for analytical data of precipitation were performed by considering the ion balance and by comparing the measured conductivity with the calculated conductivity. As we applied the various assurance checking methods by the ion balance used until recently to a data set measured in this study, the f value expressed as $\Sigma C/\Sigma A$ was found to be not appropriate for the data screening. Also, the scattering plot between cations and anions in each sample was found to show the general tendency of ion balance but was proved to not quantitate the standard of data screening at a data set of samples of various concentration levels. The h value defined as (A-C)/C for C $\geq$ A and (A-C)/A for C < A was used to check the ion balance. However, the standard of data screening by h value must very in response to total ion concentration of samples. In this study, the quality assurance of chemical analysis data was checked by considering both the ion balance of evaluating by h value and the conductivity balance. Further the quality control was achieved by these quality assurance methods. As the result, 67 samples among total 77 were obtained as valid. As the central tendency value for a statistical summary in the analytical parametr of samples, the volume-weighted mean value was found to represent more the general chemistry of precipitation rather than the arithmetic mean. The volume-weighted mean pH was 5.0 and 25% of samples was less than this mean. The concentrations of sufate and nitrate in precipitation were 90.4 ueq/L and 32.4 ueq/L which made up 59% and 21% of all anions. The raion of $SO_4^{2-}/(NO_3^- + NO_2^-)$ in precipitation was 2.7, which indicates that the contributions of $H_2SO_4$ and $HNO_3$ to the acidity of precipitation are 70% and 30%, respectively.

Management of Spent Ion-Exchange Resins From Nuclear Power Plant by Blending Method

  • With the significant increase in spent ion-exchange resin generation, to meet the requirements of Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) of the Wolsong disposal facility in Korea, blending is considered as a method for enhancing disposal options for intermediate level waste from nuclear reactors. A mass balance formula approach was used to enable blending process with an appropriate mixing ratio. As a result, it is estimated around 44.3% of high activity spent resins can be blended with the overall volume of low activity spent resins at a 1:7.18 conservative blending ratio. In contrast, the reduction of high activity spent resins is considered a positive solution in reducing the amount of spent resins stored. In an economic study, the blending process has been proven to lower the disposal cost by 10% compared to current APR1400 treatment. Prior to commencing use of this blending method in Korea, coordinated discussion, and safety and health assessment should be undertaken to investigate the feasibility of fitting this blending method to national policy as a means of waste predisposal processing and management in the future.

Adaptive State-of-Charge Estimation Method for an Aeronautical Lithium-ion Battery Pack Based on a Reduced Particle-unscented Kalman Filter

  • A reduced particle-unscented Kalman filter estimation method, along with a splice-equivalent circuit model, is proposed for the state-of-charge estimation of an aeronautical lithium-ion battery pack. The linearization treatment is not required in this method and only a few sigma data points are used, which reduce the computational requirement of state-of-charge estimation. This method also improves the estimation covariance properties by introducing the equilibrium parameter state of balance for the aeronautical lithium-ion battery pack. In addition, the estimation performance is validated by the experimental results. The proposed state-of-charge estimation method exhibits a root-mean-square error value of 1.42% and a mean error value of 4.96%. This method is insensitive to the parameter variation of the splice-equivalent circuit model, and thus, it plays an important role in the popularization and application of the aeronautical lithium-ion battery pack.

  • Li-ion 2차전지는 정극재료로 리튬전이금속산화물을, 부극재료로 탄소를 사용한다. 고용량 및 장수명을 지닌 Li-ion 2차 전지를 제작하기 위하여, 충전중에 탄소표면에 리튬 석출이 없이 전극 활물질의 이용율은 가능한 높아야 한다. 정극 및 부극 재료의 balance 및 적절한 충전 방식이 Li-ion 2차전지의 설계에 있어서 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 $LiCoO_2/MPCF$전지의 성능에 미치는 정$\cdot$부극 중량비의 효과를 고찰하였다. 먼저 각 반전지의 충방전 특성을 평가하였다. 그리고 흑연화 MPCF를 부극으로, $LiCoO_2$를 정극으로 사용하여 원통형 Li-ion 2차전지를 제작하였다. 기준전극으로 리튬금속을 사용하여 $LiCoO_2/MPCF$전지에서 각 반전지의 전위를 측정하였다. 또한 중량비에 따른 $LiCoO_2/MPCF$ 전지의 충방전 수명 성능을 평가하였다. 시험 결과, $LiCoO_2$ 정극의 이용율은 중량비에 의존하지 않지만, MPCF부극 이용율은 중량비에 크게 의존하였다. 또한, $LiCoO_2/MPCF$전지의 최적 중량비는 $2.0\~2.2$인 것으로 판단되었다.

A Study on Neutral Atom Heating in Inductively Coupled Plasma

  • Neutral atom temperature was measured by Laser Rayleigh scattering method using neutral depletion by neutral heating with ideal gas law in Inductively coupled plasma. We observed sudden pressure change when plasma is turned on and off. We analyzed mechanism of neutral heating by employing zero-dimensional neutral and ion energy balance model simultaneously. The results showed that neutral atom temperature increase with ion density. The mechanism of neutral atom heating and cooling is mainly dominated by ion-neutral collision including elastic and charge-exchange collision and by wall cooling respectively.

  • A charge equalization converter with parallel-connected primary windings of transformers is proposed in digest. The proposed work effectively balance the voltage among Lithium-Ion battery cells despite each battery cell has low voltage gap compared with its SOC. The principle of the proposed work is that the equalizing energy from all battery strings moves to the lowest voltage battery through the isolated dc/dc converter controlled by the corresponding bi-directional switch. In this digest, a prototype of four Lithium-Ion battery cells is optimally designed and implemented, and experimental results show that the proposed method has excellent cell balancing performance.

충남 서해안지역 강수 중 수용성 이온 성분의 변화특성 (Water Soluble Ionic Components in Precipitation at ChungNam West-Coast Area)

  • 당진 지역과 안면도 지역의 강수특성을 비교해 보기 위하여 수용성 이온성분 및 pH, 전기전도도 등을 2002년 4월 1일부터 2002년 11월 30일까지 당진 지역 총 47개의 시료와 안면도 지역 총 59개의 시료를 측정 분석해 본 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) 강수의 신뢰성 검토에는 WMO에서 사용하고 있는 이온수지법과 전기전도도법에 의한 방법 두 가지를 사용하였는데, 당진 지역의 강수는 이온수지법($r^2$ : 0.9429), 전기전도도법($r^2$ : 0.9916)의 값을 나타냈으며, 안면도 지역의 강수는 이온수지법($r^2$ : 0.9620), 전기전도도법($r^2$ : 0.9955)의 값을 보임으로써 WMO에서 권고하는 분석 자료에 대한 신뢰성을 확인 할 수 있었다. 2) 당진과 안면도 지역의 pH 분포는 당진 지역이 년 평균 pH 4.6, 안면도 지역이 년평균 pH 4.8로 산성비 기준인 5.6보다 산성을 나타내었다. 산성비 기준인 pH 5.6이하의 총 발생빈도는 당진이 약 76.8%, 안면도 지역이 81.4%로 나타났는데 이것은 두 지역에서 산성비가 그만큼 내렸다는 것과 같고, 또한 pH의 저하요인인 음이온이 상대적으로 많이 포함되어 있음을 추측할 수 있다. 3) 강수량과 pH와의 관계를 살펴보면 당진 지역과 안면도 지역 모두 여름철인 7, 8월에 강수량이 집중되었고 pH 또한 4.1-5.5 사이로 봄철이나 가을철에 비해 pH가 높게 나타났다. 이는 여름철의 장마로 인한 대기 중의 세정효과로 볼 수 있다.

충전 프로파일 및 셀 밸런스 제어기술을 활용한 대용량 리튬이온 배터리 고속충전시스템 개발 (Development of a Fast Charging System Utilizing Charge Profile and Cell Balance Control Technology for Large Capacity Lithium-ion Batteries)

  • Lithium-ion cells have become the go-to energy source across all applications; however, dendritic growth remains an issue to tackle. While there have been various research conducted and possible solutions offered, there is yet to be one that efficiently rules out the problem without, however, introducing another. This paper seeks to present a fast charging method and system to which lithium-ion batteries are charged while maintaining their lifetime. In the proposed method, various lithium cells are charged under multiple profiles. The parameters of charge profiles that inflict damage to the cell's electrodes are obtained and used as thresholds. Thus, during charging, voltage, current, and temperature are actively controlled under these thresholds. In this way, dendrite formation suppressed charging is achieved, and battery life is maintained. The fast-charging system designed, comprises of a 1.5kW charger, an inbuilt 600W battery pack, and an intelligent BMS with cell balancing technology. The system was also designed to respond to the aging of the battery to provide adequate threshold values. Among other tests conducted by KCTL, the cycle test result showed a capacity drop of only 0.68% after 500 cycles, thereby proving the life maintaining capability of the proposed method and system.

하계 소백산 안개의 화학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Chemical Features of Fog Sample in Summer at Mt. Sobaek)

  • Acidic fog is catastrophic to aviation and potentially affect materials, vegetation, crops and public health. This paper was carried out to investigate the chemical features of fog sample at Mt. Sobaek (mean sea level : 1, 340m) from June to August 1995. Each sample was analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity and major ions (anion : $Cl^N)_3^-, SO_4^{2-}, cation : Na^+, NH_4^+, K^+, Mg^{2+}, Ca^{2+}$) by ion chromatography. The quality analysis of fog sample data was performed based on ion balance and electrical conductivity method. The wind directions are subdivided into the northerly and southerly wind according to the wind direction data at the Sobaek-san meteorological observation station. Statistical analyses were performed on the complete set of results in order to obtain a description of fog sample. All the statistical treatment was carried out using the SPSS/PC + software package. The major ion concentration of fog samples was higher for the northwesterly wind cases than sourtheasterly wind cases. The pH of fog sample varied between 2.95 and 6.08. The average pH and electrical conductivity of total sample (n=210) were 4.39 and 113.0 $\mu$S/cm, respectively. It may be noted that in nearly all the cases, the dominant major ions in the fog sample at Mt. Sobaek were $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, H^+ and NH_4^+$.
