  • A novel binding site for metal ion made by designing molecule with tetrazolo quinoline with hydrazine carboxamide (TQC) and the designed molecule successfully synthesized. The probe works by selectively detecting Al3+ ion via both fluorimetric and colorimetric approach. The probe's effectiveness towards aluminium ion detection is highly sensitive and selective with no substantial interference with other competing ions. The added Al3+ ion to TQC fetched a rapid change of visual color to yellow from colorless, also the response of fluorescence turn-on. The fluorescence turn-on and color change visibly by the probe TQC with Al3+ ion credited to the ICT phenomenon (intramolecular charge-transfer transition). The likely interaction of the probe with aluminium ion has also been there predicted from ESI-MS spectral analysis results. The usefulness of the probe confirmed by practical utility by making a test kit to monitor Al3+ ion in water which showed a naked eye detection by notable color change.

  • A cutoff probe is the novel diagnostic method to get the absolute plasma density with simple system and less assumption. However, high density of ion flux from plasma on probe tip can make the error of plasma density measurement because the dielectric material of probe tip can be damaged by ion flux. We proposed a shielded cutoff probe using the ceramic tube for protection from ion flux. The ceramic tube on probe tip can intercept the ion flux from plasma. The transmitted spectrum using the shielded cutoff probe is good agreement with E/M wave simulation result (CST Microwave Studio) and previous circuit simulation of cutoff probe [1]. From the analysis of the measured transmitted spectrum base on the circuit modeling, the parallel resonance frequency is same as the unshielded cutoff probe case. The obtained results of electron density is presented and discussed in wide range of experimental conditions, together with comparison result with previous cutoff method.

  • In ECR and helicon reactors for plasma processing, a high density plasma is generated in a source region which is connected to a diffusion region where the processing takes place. Large density and potential gradients can develop at the orifice of the source which drive ion currents into the diffusion region. The average ion velocity may become the order of the sound velocity. Measurements of the ion saturation current to a Langmuir probe are used as a standard method of determining the plasma density in laboratory discharges. However, the analysis becomes difficult in a steaming plasma. We have used the HAMLET plasma simulator to simulate the ion flow to a large langmuir probe in an ECR plasma. The collection surface was aligned with the Held upstream, normal to the field, and downstream. ion trajectories through the electric and magnetic fields were calculated including ion-neutral collisions. We examines the ratio of ion current density to plasma density as a function of magnetic field and pressure.

  • A rhodamine B-based fluorescent probe for nitrite ion ($NO{_2}^-$) has been designed, synthesized, characterized and its properties for recognition of $NO{_2}^-$ were studied. Nearly non fluorescent probe upon reaction with nitrite ion significantly triggered the fluorescence. Fluorescence response is based on ring opening of the spirolactam of rhodamine B phenyl hydrazide showing maximum absorbance at 552 nm and maximum emission at 584 nm. Probe 3 exhibited high sensitivity and extreme selectivity for nitrite ion over other common ions and oxidants ($Cl^-$, $ClO^-$, $ClO{_2}^-$, $ClO{_3}^-$, $ClO{_4}^-$, $SO{_4}^{2-}$, $SiO{_3}^{2-}$, $NO{_3}^{2-}$, $CO{_3}^{2-}$) examined in methanol water (1:1, v/v) at pH 7.0. The probe might be a new efficient tool for detection of nitrite ion in natural water and biological system.

  • Rhodamine B Hydrazide as a novel fluorescent and colorimetric probe exhibiting remarkably selective fluorescence enhancement toward Hg2+ ion over other 16 metal ions is herein introduced. The probe reacts with Hg2+ ion followed by its spirolactam ring-opening to give a remarkable enhancement of absorption maximum at 550 nm as well as an enhanced fluorescence intensity at 580 nm in aqueous media. Upon titration with Hg2+ ion in various concentration of 10~200 uM, we found that the probe shows a marked color change from colorless to pink, enabling naked-eye detection toward mercury ion. In addition, in the presence of Hg2+ ion, the probe gave rise to change from non-florescence to strong orange fluorescence (Off-On) with a good linearity of R2=0.97. This preliminary results demonstrate that the fluorescent chemosensor we herein introduced can open a new strategy for marked selective and sensitive detection of mercury ions in contaminated soil containing various metal ions.

  • The present paper gives an overview about the Atom Probe Tomography technique and its application to powder materials. The preparation of needle-shaped Atom Probe specimens from a single powder particle using focused-ion-beam milling is described. Selected experimental data on mechanically alloyed (and sintered) powder materials are presented, giving insight into the atomic-scale elemental redistribution occurring under powder metallurgical processing.

  • Spark plug ionization signal could be useful in an internal combustion engine as a feedback signal for combustion diagnostics such as misfire detection, knocking detection and lambda control, but the signal has high level of cyclic fluctuation in an internal combustion engine due to residual gas, pressure, temperature, mixture composition in the spark gap. Because of this reason it is very difficult to apply ion signal to commercial engine control. In this Study, a correlation between A/F and spark plug ionization signal was studied in a constant volume chamber. Constant volume chamber with gas phase fuel(Propane) has homogeneous fuel composition , no mixture flow, same pressure and temperature on each test. The results show that mean chemi-ion signal has the highest correlation with A/F and intial pressure change has on effect on the thermal-ion signal and not on chemi-ion signal.

  • Development of a versatile nanomanipulation tool is an overarching theme in nanotechnology. Such a tool will likely revolutionize the field given that it will enable fabrication and operation of a wealth of interesting nanodevices. This study seeks funding to create a novel nanomanipulation system with the ultimate goal of using this system for nanomanufacturing at the molecular level. The proposed design differs from existing approaches. It is based on a nanoscale ion trap integrated to a scanning prove microscope (SPM) tip. In this design, molecules to be assembled will be ionized and collected in the nanoscale ion trap all in an ultra high vacuum (UHV) environment. Once filled with the molecular ions, the nanoscale ion trap-SPM tip will be moved on a substrate surface using scanning probe microscopy techniques. The molecular ions will be placed at their precise locations on the surface. By virtue of the SPM, the devices that are being nanomanufactured will be imaged in real time as the molecular assembly process is carried out. In the later stages, automation of arrays of these nanomanipulators will be developed.

  • Currently, focused ion beams (FIB) are widely used for specimen preparation in atom probe tomography (APT), which is a three-dimensional and atomic-scale compositional analysis tool. Specimen preparation, in which a specific region of interest is identified and a sharp needle shape created, is the first step towards successful APT analysis. The FIB technique is a powerful tool for site-specific specimen preparation because it provides a lift-out technique and a controllable manipulation function. In this paper, we demonstrate a general procedure containing the crucial points of FIB-based specimen preparation. We introduce aluminum holders with moveable pin and an axial rotation manipulator for specimen handling, which are useful for flipping and rotating the specimen to present the backside and the perpendicular direction. We also describe specimen preparation methods for nanowires and nanopowders, using a pick-up method and an embedding method by epoxy resin, respectively.
