The comparison and analysis on the phosphor degradation causes in ac PDP

  • In this paper, we investigated the phosphor degradation characteristics on the ultra violet ray (UV) irradiation as well as ion bombardment. We propose a novel experiment method which is related with phosphor degradation causes. The phosphor deterioration experiments were made on the UV irradiation as well as ion bombardment. To carry out the experiment and compare the results, we made up the specific experimental setup. The results show that the deterioration by ion damage is more rigorous than that by vacuum ultra violet (VUV) on the phosphor efficiency.

  • Using a low-energy Ar+ ion-beam with and without reactive gases, polymers such as chemically stable poly(ether ether ketone) (PTFE) and poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) films were modified to have special surface features. The adhesion strength between the polymers and the copper was significantly improved because of both changes in the surface topography and chemical interactions due to polymer surface functionalization (oxidation and amination). The surface modification altered the failure mode from adhesive failure for the unmodified polymer/Cu interface to cohesive failure for the surface-modified polymer/Cu layer interface..

Structural Modification of Nanodiamond Induced by Ion Irradiation

  • Nanodiamond (ND) is composed of inner diamond core and outer graphite shell. The size of ND used in this study was about 5 nm. The ND solution was dropped on silicon substrate and dried in air. Dried ND sample was purified by using annealing method in air. Then, 40 keV Fe ion was irradiated into the sample. The dose was varied from $1{\times}10^{14}$ to $1{\times}10^{16}ions/cm^2$. The post annealing was performed at 1073 K in the vacuum to recover diamond structure. The annealing at 873 K in air was performed to remove the outer graphite shell. The structure of ND was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. We will present the detailed data and results in the conference.

  • Irradiation of aromatic diazonium salts resulted in an effcient elimination of nitrogen, yielding substitution products. This paper was not only studies about photolysis of aromatic diazonium with double salts but also coexistence of ion and radical when they was photolysis. Photolysis of aromatic diazonium was depend on excite wave length therefore photolysis products out put different absorption intensity such other. We also confirmed coexistence of ion and radical when they was accomplished photolysis. In case of BD, there are ion decomposition process about 90 percentage, decreased ion decomposition process the other side radical`s it was becomeing increased according to excite of short-wave length.

이온빔보조 반응법을 이용한 고분자 표면의 친수성처리와 그 응용 (Hydrophilic surface formation of polumer treated by ion assisted reaction and its applications)

  • Polycarbonate (PC) and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) surface was modified by ion assisted reaction (IAR) technique to obtain the hydrophilic functional groups and improve the wettability. In conditions of ion assisted reaction, ion beam energy was changed from 500 to 1500eV, and ion dose and oxygen gas blown rate were fixed $1\times10^{16}$ ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 4ml/min, respectively. Wetting angle of water on PC and PMMA surface modified by $Ar^+$ ion without blowing oxygen at 4ml/mon showed $5^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$. Changes of wetting angle with oxygen gas and $Ar^+$ ion irradiation were explained by considering formation of hydrophilic group due to a reaction between irradiated polymer chain by energetic ion irradiation and blown oxygen gas. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows that hydrophilic groups such as -C-O, -(C=O)- and -(C=O)-O- are formed on the surface of polymer by chemical interaction. The polymer surface modification using ion assisted reaction only changed the surface physical properties and sept the bulk properties. In comparison with other modification methods, the surface modification by IAR treatment was chemically stable and enhanced the adhesion between metal and polymer surface. The applications of various kinds of polymer surface modification methods, metal and polymer surface. The applications of various kinds of polymer surface modification could be appled to the new materials about hydrophilic surface properties by IAR treatment. The adhesion between metal film and polymer measured by Scotch tape test whether the hydrophilic surfaces could improve the adhesion strength or not.

  • Poly-Monochloro-Para-Xylylene (Parylene-C)과 알루미늄 박막과의 접착력을 향상시키기 위하여 Duoplasmatron 이온원을 이용하여 발생시킨 아르곤 이온과 산소 이온을 Parylene-C 표면에 각각 조사하였다. 이온조사 시 이온에너지는 1 kV로 고정하였고 이온조사량은 $5{\times}10^{14}$에서 $1{\times}10^{17}/cm^2$까지 변화시켰다. 아르곤 이온과 산소 이온을 조사한 Parylene-C 박막의 물과의 접촉각은 초기 $78^{\circ}$에서 각각 $17^{\circ}$$9^{\circ}$까지 감소하였다. X선 광전자 스펙트럼을 이용하여 Parylene-C 표면에 이온빔 조사에 의하여 친수성 그룹이 형성되었음을 알 수 있었으며, 이 친수성 그룹들은 C-O 결합, C=O 결합 그리고 (C=O)-O 결합에 의한 것임을 알 수 있었다. Al 박막과 ${O_2}^+$ 이온에 의해 표면 개질된 Parylene-C 박막과의 접착력을 평가하기 위하여 cross cut tape test를 실시한 결과 접착력은 이온조사량이 증가할수록 향상됨을 알 수 있었다.

Irradiation-induced BCC-phase formation and magnetism in a 316 austenitic stainless steel

  • Specimens of austenitic stainless steel were irradiated with 6 MeV Xe ions to two doses of 7 and 15 dpa at room temperature and 300 ℃ respectively. Then partial irradiated specimens were subsequently thermally annealed at 550 ℃. Irradiation-induced BCC-phase formation and magnetism were analyzed by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It has been shown that irradiation damage level, irradiation temperature and annealing temperature have significant effect on BCC-phase formation. This BCC-phase changes the magnetic behavior of austenitic stainless steel. The stress relief and compositional changes in matrix are the driving forces for BCC-phase formation in austenitic stainless steel during ion irradiation.

Annealing Behavior of Pretilt Angles on Polyimide Surface with Rubbing and Ion Beam Irradiation

  • We have studied the liquid crystal (LC) alignment, the pretilt angle generation, and the annealing behavior for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) on the homogeneous polyimide (PI) surfaces by using the rubbing method and the ion beam (IB) method. An excellent LC alignment of the NLC on the PI surface with rubbing and IB irradiation were observed. The pretilt angle of NLC on the homogeneous PI surface for the rubbing method is decreased from $4.5^{\circ}$ to $3.5^{\circ}$ as rubbing time is increased, that of the for the IB irradiation method is decreased from $0.5^{\circ}$ to $0.1^{\circ}$ as the time of IB irradiation is increased. After the annealing, the pretilt angles of the rubbed PI surfaces increased up to $4^{\circ}$, these of the IB irradiated PI surfaces little increased. It is considered the side chain of the rubbed PI show the its abilities of the original capacities, while the side chain of the IB irradiated PI cannot show the its abilities of the original capacities due to the IB has already destroyed the side chain of the PI.

차세대 원자력 시스템용 탄화규소계 세라믹스의 제조와 이온조사 특성 평가 (Fabrication and Ion Irradiation Characteristics of SiC-Based Ceramics for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems)

  • SiC-based ceramics are considered as candidate materials for the advanced nuclear energy systems such as the generation IV reactors and the fusion reactors due to their excellent high-temperature strength and irradiation resistance. The advanced nuclear energy systems and their main components adopting ceramic composites were briefly reviewed. A novel fabrication method of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites by introducing SiC whiskers was also described. In addition, the charged-particle irradiation ($Si^{2+}$ and $H^{+}$ ion) into CVD SiC was carried out to simulate the severe environments of the advanced nuclear reactors. SiC whiskers grown in the fiber preform increased the matrix infiltration rate by more than $60\%$ compared to the conventional CVI process. The highly crystalline and pure SiC showed little degradation in hardness and elastic modulus up to a damage level of 10 dpa at $1000^{\circ}C$.
