This study investigated and analyzed the export competitiveness of Gyeonggi-Do and the effect of Korea-US FTA on its export competitiveness. By reviewing the current status of trade structure and implementing trade specialization index(TSI) of export commodities of Gyeonggi-Do, the investigation has listed the specific export commodities with competitiveness for increasing the volume of its export in the United States, in the short, mid and long run perspectives. From the findings in this study, it suggests specific trade and commercial policies to Korea-US FTA including implementing commodity-oriented export supporting system, strategic marketing method, economic-free-zone plan, R&D investment, export financing and regional economic cooperation.

The final objective of this study is to establish the research and development (R&D) encouragement strategy in construction area. For this, this study deals with the survey of current status of Korean construction industry. The result of this study is as follow; First, it is necessary for strengthen the R&D infrastructure to establish R&D cooperation system between industry, university, government and public institute. Second, private sector's should do its role as one of the four performing sectors in R&D network, not just assisting role. We will apply the result for establshing the national strategy as basic data.

Biochip, that is a fusion of BT/IT/NT, is the fundamental technology of bio-engineering in Post-genome Era. It is not only the tool to analyze the huge bio-informations but also the technology necessary for screening of new medicine and medical examination. Except some technological fields, biochip area has a good chance of occupying advantageous position in the world technology community by early aggressive investment, because a new access to this technology is possible without a past imitation process. This study is to analyze the trend of development of domestic and foreign biochip technology and its current market status. Finally it presents some suggestions for the government policy considering the possibility of its development in Korea.

Material is enabling technology that creates the product performance and the service of most industrial sectors and fields of technology. However, compared to the other fields such as IT, BT, and NT etc., relatively little attention has been paid to the research on strategy and innovation of materials technology. This bias should have resulted in the misfit of policy and less than enough investment in materials innovation. This paper discusses the characteristics, process, and future of the materials innovation. The process and status of materials technology in Korea are analyzed based on the discussions above. Finally, some suggestions for R＆D strategies of Korea are presented on the basis of the nature, trend and barriers of materials innovation.

As far as recent investment in railway, disused railway yards is increased in each line and region. As a result, the interest of the related local government and agencies has increased on utilizing disused railway yards. In this study, we investigated the status of the disused railway yards and conducted legal review on the use of disused railway yards. In addition, we analyzed the disused railway yards use practices through case analysis and also suggested plans to diversify the ways of their usage.

The fact that Pyeongtaek Port is located ideally at the central point of the Yellow Sea's Economic Zone and it is very close to the metropolitan area of South Korea which occupies more than 50 percent of the total trade volume in terms of tonnage is providing a good prospect of development for the Port of Pyeongtaek. This study examines the perception of shippers in Kyonggi-do on the development of Pyeongtaek Port, giving some suggestions to the Pyeongtaek Port Authority. It begins with a description of the port such as current economic status, statistics on the economy, trade and investment regarding the Port of Pyeongtaek. According to a particular questionnaire survey conducted in December 2001, the major obstacles to the utilization of the port are as follows: a shortage of liner shipping routes, lack of container handling facilities including container terminal, crane etc., and port sales promotion activity. Therefore the port should make aggressive efforts to attract container cargoes to and from China by expanding port facilities, implementing effective marketing strategies, introducing a customs-free zone/free trade zone, and strengthening port sales etc.

In this paper, the productivity estimation of the painting line in an automobile plant is studied. To improve the bottleneck and the weak point of the process, computer simulations are performed. In determining the system specification, the status of the conveyor lines and the other physical facilities are considered in order not to intervene with each other and to satisfy the painting facility restrictions. As simulation parameters, production performance ratio, number of hanger and dolley, down time, speed of conveyor and the pitch of a painting body are chosen on the basis of exhaustive field evaluation to study their effects on the capacity of the process. The results of the simulation show that we can improve the capability of they system without additional investment to the plant facility. The best condition for the maximum capacity of the process is selected by comparing the alternative computer simulation results. As a simulation language, Promodel is used which is very useful and easy to use in manufacturing oriented simulation.

A large number of Chinese trade marks and domain names have been registered improperly or illegally by foreign companies or businessmen. Additionally, a large number of famous Chinese brands have vanished through joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions since foreign direct investment (FDI) came to China more than two decades ago because some Chinese managers have not been fully aware of the value of trade marks and domain names. Consequently, the number of China's registered trade marks and famous brands does not match China's export volume and its Number four trade status in the world. China's enterprises have yet to realize the effects of these events. It is very important for China to protect and cultivate its own famous brands. This paper discusses Chinese companies' neglect of the value of their trade marks and domain names, and the possible consequences. Additionally, this paper puts forward suggestions concerning the protection and cultivation of China's famous brands.

There are many policies around the world regarding Information Communication Technology (ICT). In 2012, the World Health Organization emphasized the strategic and integrated policy for the development and dissemination of ICT-based healthcare innovations at the national level. As technologies related to ICT are introduced in various countries around the world, each country announces policies and strategies to preoccupy these new industries. However, Korea is tied to various regulations in investment of ICT and thus lags behind other countries. Therefore, in this section, we review the present status and problems of ICT development in Korea and compare these with other major countries. Finally, we present the ICT development strategies and tasks in Korea.
