  • This paper proposes a vehicle counting and speed estimation method for traffic situation analysis in road CCTV videos. The proposed method removes a distortion in the images using Inverse perspective Mapping, and obtains specific region for vehicle counting and speed estimation using lane detection algorithm. Then, we can obtain vehicle counting and speed estimation results from using optical flow at specific region. The proposed method achieves stable accuracy of 88.94% from several CCTV images by regional groups and it totally applied at 106,993 frames, about 3 hours video.

  • The impact of leakage was incorporated into the transfer functions of the complex head and discharge. The impedance transfer functions for the various leaking pipeline systems were also derived. Hydraulic transients could be efficiently analyzed by the developed method. The simulation of normalized pressure variation using the method of characteristics and the impulse response method shows good agreement to the condition of turbulent flow. The leak calibration could be performed by incorporation of the impulse response method with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Harmony Search (HS). The objective functions for the leakage detection can be made using the pressure-head response at the valve, or the pressure-head or the flow response at a certain point of the pipeline located upstream from the valve. The proposed method is not constrained by the Courant number to control the numerical dissipation of the method of characteristics. The limitations associated with the discreteness of the pipeline system in the inverse transient analysis can be neglected in the proposed method.

  • In field of voice pathology, diverse statistics extracted form pitch estimation were commonly used to assess voice quality. In this study, we proposed robust pitch detection algorithm which can estimate pitch of pathological voices in benign vocal fold lesions. we also compared our proposed algorithm with three established pitch detection algorithms; autocorrelation, simplified inverse filtering technique, and nonlinear state-space embedding methods. In the database of total pathological voices of 99 and normal voices of 30, an analysis of errors related with pitch detection was evaluated between pathological and normal voices, or among the types of pathological voices. According to the results of pitch errors, gross pitch error showed some increases in cases of pathological voices; especially excessive increase in PDA based on nonlinear time-series. In an analysis of types of pathological voices classified by aperiodicity and the degree of chaos, the more voice has aperiodic and chaotic, the more growth of pitch errors increased. Consequently, it is required to survey the severity of tested voice in order to obtain accurate pitch estimates.

  • In this paper, at first, we investigate existing algorithms for finding the minimum infinity-norm solution of consistent linear equations and then propose a new algorithm. The proposed algorithm is intended to includes the advantages of computational efficiency as well as geometric explicitness. As a practical application example, optimum trajectory planning for redundant robot manipulators is considered. Also, an efficient approach avoiding discontinuity in trajectory is proposed by resolving the non-uniqueness problem of minimum infinity-norm solution. To be specific, the proposed method for checking possible discontinuity does not need any other algorithms in checking the possibility of discontinuity while previous work needs specially designed checking courses. To show the usefulness of the proposed techniques, an example calculating minimum infinity-norm solution for comparing the computational efficiency as well as the trajectory planning for a redundant robot manipulator are included.

  • The estimation of muscle force is important to understand the roles of the muscles. The static optimization method can be used to figure out the individual muscle forces. However, muscle forces during the movement including muscle co-contraction cannot be considered by the static optimization. In this study, a hybrid static optimization method was introduced to find the well-matched muscle forces with EMG signals under muscle co-contraction conditions. To validate the developed algorithm, the 3D motion analysis and its corresponding inverse dynamics using the musculoskeletal modeling software (SIMM) were performed on heel-rise movements. Results showed that the developed algorithm could estimate the acceptable muscle forces during heel-rise movement. These results imply that a hybrid numerical approach is very useful to obtain the reasonable muscle forces under muscle co-contraction conditions.

  • This article presents an approach to estimate the general 3D motion of a polyhedral object using multiple, sensory data some of which may not provide sufficient information for the estimation of object motion. Motion can be estimated continuously from each sensor through the analysis of the instantaneous state of an object. We have introduced a method based on Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse theory to estimate the instantaneous state of an object. A linear feedback estimation algorithm is discussed to estimate the object 3D motion. Then, the motion estimated from each sensor is fused to provide more accurate and reliable information about the motion of an unknown object. The techniques of multisensor data fusion can be categorized into three methods: averaging, decision, and guiding. We present a fusion algorithm which combines averaging and decision.

  • This paper proposes a new modeling scheme to describe the hysteresis and the dynamic characteristics of piezoelectric actuators in the inchworm and develops a control algorithm for the precision motion control. From the analysis of piezoelectric actuator behaviors, the hysteresis can be described by the functions of a maximum input voltage. The dynamic characteristics are also identified by the frequency domain modeling technique based on the experimental data. For the motion control, the hysteresis behavior is compensated by the inverse hysteresis model. The dynamic stiffness of an inchworm is generally low compared to its driving condition, so mechanical vibration may degenerate the motion accuracy of the inchworm. Therefore, the sliding mode control and the Kalman filter are developed for the precision motion control of the inch-warm. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling schemes and control algorithm, experiment validations are performed.

  • This paper presents a method for identifying the parameter set of inelastic constitutive equations, which is based on an Evolutionary Algorithm. The advantage of the method is that appropriate parameters can be identified even when the measured data are subject to considerable errors and the model equations are inaccurate. The design of experiments suited for the parameter identification of a material model by Chaboche under the uniaxial loading and stationary temperature conditions was first considered. Then the parameter set of the model was identified by the proposed method from a set of experimental data. In comparison to those by other methods, the resultant stress-strain curves by the proposed method correlated better to the actual material behaviors.

  • In this paper, we investigate a hybrid algorithm for finding zeros of the sum of maximal monotone operators and Lipschitz continuous monotone operators which is also a common fixed point problem for finite family of relatively quasi-nonexpansive mappings and split feasibility problem in uniformly convex real Banach spaces which are also uniformly smooth. The iterative algorithm employed in this paper is design in such a way that it does not require prior knowledge of operator norm. We prove a strong convergence result for approximating the solutions of the aforementioned problems and give applications of our main result to minimization problem and convexly constrained linear inverse problem.

  • This paper presents a new nonlinear analysis algorithm which uses the equivalent nodal load for the element stiffness. The equivalent nodal load represents the influence of the stiffness change such as the addition of elements, the deletion of elements, and/or the partial change of element stiffness. The nonlinear analysis of structures using the equivalent load improves the efficiency very much because the inverse of the structural stiffness matrix, which needs a large amount of computation to calculate, is reused in each loading step. In this paper, the concept of nonlinear analysis using the equivalent load for the element stiffness is described and some numerical examples are provided to verify it.
