Among a variety of influencing components, time-variant seepage and long-term underground motion are important to understand the abnormal behavior of tunnels. Excessiveness of these two components could be the direct cause of severe damage on tunnels, however, it is not easy to quantify the effect of these on the behavior of tunnels. These parameters can be estimated by using inverse methods once the appropriate relationship between inputs and results is clarified. Various inverse methods or parameter estimation techniques such as artificial neural network and least square method can be used depending on the characteristics of given problems. Numerical analyses, experiments, or monitoring results are frequently used to prepare a set of inputs and results to establish the back analysis models. In this study, a back analysis method has been developed to estimate geotechnically hard-to-known parameters such as permeability of tunnel filter, underground water table, long-term rock mass load, size of damaged zone associated with seepage and long-term underground motion. The artificial neural network technique is adopted and the numerical models developed in the first part are used to prepare a set of data for learning process. Tunnel behavior, especially the displacements of the lining, has been exclusively investigated for the back analysis.

This paper presents long-term dynamic characteristics of a cable-stayed bridge where installed SHM (Structural Health Monitoring) system. Modal parameters such as natural frequencies and mode shapes are identified by modal analysis using three dimensional finite element model. The developed baseline model has a good correlation with measured natural frequencies identified from field ambient vibrations. By statistical data processing between measured natural frequencies and temperatures, it is demonstrated that the natural frequency is in linearly inverse proportion to the temperature. The estimation of temperature effects against frequency variations is performed. Mode shapes are identified from the TDD (Time Domain Decomposition) technique for ambient vibration measurements. Finally, these results demonstrate that the TDD method can apply to identify modal parameters of a cable-stayed bridge.

This paper deals with accuracy of accumulated fatigue damage estimation using stochastic fatigue analysis method based on Rayleigh PDF. From full scale measurement data on an 8100TEU container vessel, zero-order spectral moments for wave- and vibration-induced energy spectral densities are determined on the probability level of 99%. 80 simulation cases in total are prepared according to the variation of ratio of zero-order spectral moments and center frequency of vibration ESD. By using inverse Fourier transformation and rainflow cycle counting for the combined ESD of wave and vibration, exact fatigue damages are derived. Fatigue damages in frequency domain based on Rayleigh PDF show large conservativeness compared to exact fatigue damages in times domain. The main cause of the excessive conservativeness is analyzed by two aspects: ratio of zero crossing and peak frequencies and ratio of initial zero order spectral moments and zero order spectral moments from rainflow stress range distributions. Finally, a guideline of applicability of Rayleigh PDF is proposed for wide band processes.
This study was focused on the reactivity of furnace slag against cadmium to design the vertical drain method with reactive column for improving contaminated sea shore sediment. The kinetic sorption test was performed by changing the initial concentration and pH. Using pseudo-second-order model, the reactivity of furnace slag was quantitatively analyzed. Equilibrium removal amount ($q_e$) of furnace slag increased and rate constant ($k_2$) decreased with the increase of initial cadmium concentration. With the increase of pH, the equilibrium removal amount ($q_e$) and rate constant ($k_2$) increased in the same initial concentration. Required retention time was related to the inverse of the product of the equilibrium removal amount ($q_e$) multiplied by rate constant ($k_2$). The required retention time could be used to design the length of reactive column.

Since CORDIC (COordinate Rotation DIgital Computer) is able to carry out the phase operation, such as vector to phase conversion or rotation of vectors, with adders and shifters, it is well suited for the design of the frequency synchronization unit in OFDM receivers. It is not easy, however, to fully utilize the CORDIC in the OFDM demodulator because of the non-linear characteristics of the direction sequence (DS), which is the representation of the phase in CORDIC. In this paper a new representation method is proposed to linearize the direction sequence approximately. The maximum phase error of the linearized binary direction sequence (LBDS) is also discussed. For the purpose of designing the hardware, the architectures for the binary DS (BDS) to LBDS converter and the LBDS to BDS inverse converter are illustrated. Adopting LBDS, the overall frequency synchronization hardware for OFDM receivers can be implemented fully utilizing CORDIC and general arithmetic operators, such as adders and multipliers, for the phase estimation, loop filtering of the frequency offset, derotation for the frequency offset correction. An example of the design of 22 bit LBDS for the T-DMB demodulator is also presented.

The signal processing is a field of the electrical engineering but it is very much related with the time series analysis. Thesedays the commercial softwares are widely used by the reseachers. We have attempted to make a guide for using the R-package in the digital signal processing. It would be good to read the materials in each section first and to follow the plots in the section 8 and to run the attached R-codes. The article consists of (1) Fourier transform and Fourier inverse transform, (2) spectral analysis (3) parametric and non-parametric estimation for the period (4) filter design. Simple theoretical explanations are provided and R implementations are added.
A study has been performed to estimate the average and high (90th percentile of consumers-only) daily intakes of sorbates by age-sex groups (> 3 years old) in Korea. The estimation of daily intakes was based on individual-based dietary intake data in ‘National Health and Nutrition Survey in 1998’and the contents of sorbates from samples. The estimated daily intakes (EDI) of sorbates for average consumers ranged from 0.09 mg/kg/bw/day to 0.51 mg/kg bw/day corresponding to 0.4-2.1% of acceptable daily intake (ADI). For high consumers, the range of EDI of sorbates was 3.42-14.65 mg/kg bw/day corresponding to 13.7-58.6% of ADI. Foods that contributed most to the daily intakes of sorbates for all age-sex groups were processed fish products, processed meat products, and salted floods. There was an inverse relationship between age and the consumption of sorbates for average and high consumers, whereas no marked pattern was emerged by sex categories. The intake levels of sorbates even among high consumers were below the ADI in Korea.
To improve the performance of the inverse halftoning, smoothing masks should be designed optimally by using the accurate information of halftone cells. In this thesis, the method of energy minimization is so defined as to determine the exact information of halftone cell. A heuristic search method is proposed to obtain efficiently the parameters of halftone cells which determine the minimum energy. A halftone-peak modeling method with several functions is proposed and used to get initial values of the parameters. The dimension decomposition technique is also adopted to speed up the search process of energy minimization. Several experiments show that the proposed method extracts correct location of the seed pixel of the halftone cell and the extracted information of the halftone cell can be used to get more exactly smoothed color images. The proposed method can be applied to extract the texture patterns, to separate channel images of a scanned color halftone image, and to extract the moire area in an image.

The accuracy of digital elevation models (DEMs) is crucial for properly estimating flood inundation area. DEM pixel size is especially important when generating flood inundation maps of small streams with a channel width of less than 50 m. In Korea, DEMs with large spatial resolutions of 30 m have been widely applied to generate flood inundation maps, even for small streams. Additionally, when making river master plans, field observations of stream cross-sections, as well as reference points in the middle of the river, have not previously been used to enhance the DEM. In this study, it was graphically demonstrated that high-resolution DEMs can increase the accuracy of flood inundation mapping, especially for small streams. Also, a methodology was proposed to modify the existing low-resolution DEMs by adding additional survey reference points, including river cross-sections, and interpolating them into a high spatial resolution DEM using the inverse distance weighting method. For verification purposes, the modified DEM was applied to Han stream on Jeju Island. The modified DEM showed much better accuracy when describing morphological features near the stream. Moreover, the flood inundation maps were formulated with the original 30 m pixel DEM and the modified 0.1 m pixel DEM using HEC-RAS modeling of the actual flood event of Typhoon Nari, and then compared with the flood history map of Nari. The results clearly indicated that the modified DEM generated a similar inundation area, but a very poor estimate of inundation area was derived from the original low-resolution DEM.

Using the case of design to the Large diameter Bored Pile, We showed the various method to estimate the Lateral coefficient of subgrade reaction and analyzed the lateral displacement behavior according to the characteristics of sub layer distribution. According to the study, Mutual relation to the N value and the soil modulus of deformation showed 400N to 800N to the fine grained soil and weathered soil. It showed simular tendancy with the proposed expression of Schmertmann. But Weathered rock was over estimated as 4,200N. $k_h$ to the sedimentory soil and weathered rock each showed these orded of Schmertmann-PMT-2,800N and Schmertmann-2,800N-PMT. As the factor($\alpha$) 4 was applied to the estimation in weathered rock, $k_h$ to the PMT was calculate as a big value. If the pile is long and the pile is surpported to the soil, Lateral displacement was in inverse proportion ratio to the value of $k_h$. But the case of shallow soil layer(early bedrock) and the short pile, Lateral displacement was affected by the behavior of socheted pile to the bedrock not by the upper soil layer.
