The filtered back projection in the image reconstruction algorithms for the clinic computed tomography system has been widely used. Noise of the reconstructed image was examined under the input noise for parallel and fan beam geometries. The reconstruction images of $512{\times}512$ size were carried out under 360 and 720 projection by the Visual C++ for parallel beam and fan beam, respectively, and those agreed with the original Shepp-Logan head phantom very much. Noise was generated because of intrinsic restriction (finite number of projections) for the image reconstruction algorithm, filtered back projection, when no input noise was applied. Because the result noise was rapidly increased under 0.5% input noise ratio, technologies for reducing noise in CT system and image processing is important.

Empirical mode decomposition(EMD) method has been recently proposed to analyze non-linear and non-stationary data. This method allows the decomposition of one-dimensional signals into intrinsic mode functions(IMFs) and is used to calculate a meaningful multi-component instantaneous frequency. In this paper, it is assumed that each mode of damped vibration signal could be well separated in the form of IMF by EMD. In this case, we can have a new powerful method to calculate natural frequencies and dampings from damped vibration signal which usually has multiple modes. This proposed method has been verified by both simulation and experiment. The result by EMD method which has used only output vibration data is almost identical to the result by FRF method which has used both input and output data, thereby proving usefulness and accuracy of the proposed method.

This paper aims to give a quick view on denoising without comprehensive details. Denoising can be understood as removing unwanted parts in signals and images. Noise incorporates intrinsic random fluctuations in the data. Since noise is ubiquitous, denoising methods and models are diverse. Starting from what noise means, we briefly discuss a denoising model as maximum a posteriori estimation and relate it with a variational form or energy model. After that we present a few major branches in image and signal processing; filtering, shrinkage or thresholding, regularization and data adapted methods, although it may not be a general way of classifying denoising methods.

The lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) has attracted attention as an alternative numerical algorithm for solving fluid mechanics since the end of the 90's. In these days, its intrinsic unsteadiness and rapid increase in computing power make the LBM be more applicable for computing flow-induced noise as well as fluid dynamics. The lattice Boltzmann method is a weakly compressible scheme, so we can get information about both aerodynamics and aeroacoustics from single simulation. In this paper, numerical analysis on Aeolian tone noise generated by tandem-twin square cylinders in duct is performed using the LBM. For simplicity, laminar two-dimensional fluid models are used. To verify the validity and accuracy of the current numerical techniques, numerical results for the laminar duct and the cylinder flows are compared with the analytical solution and the measurement, respectively. Then, aerodynamic noise of the twin tandem square cylinders is investigated. It is shown that the aerodynamic noise from the twin tandem square cylinders can be reduced by controlling the distance between the cylinders.

The noise sources from a rotating cylinder were identified to describe the blunt trailing edge noise. Firstly, LES formulation was applied to a non-orthogonal grid system and was tested with three-dimensional cross-flow over a cylinder with a yaw angle. The computed far-field noise showed peaks at Strouhal numbers ranging from 0.135 to 0.165 for the yawed cylinder flow with end-plates placed at both extremes under the yaw angle of $30^{\circ}$ and Reynolds number of $1.15{\times}10^4$. It was observed that the slantwise shedding at angles other than the cylinder yaw angle is intrinsic to inclined cylinder, with the result of shedding angles between $15^{\circ}$ and $31^{\circ}$. To study the trailing-edge wake thickness and unsteady lift-coefficient distribution in the span-wise direction of a rotating fan blade, the flows around rotating cylinder with 1,000 rpm were simulated and the far-field noise was exactly computed using the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation with quadrupole source term. The incoming velocities and stagnant zones were continuously distributed along the cylinder, and their changes made the Strouhal sheddings to occur at different phases even at almost same Strouhal number.

The InGaP/GaAs hetero-junction bipolar transistor(HBT) monolithic voltage-controlled dielectric resonator oscillator(VCDRO) is first demonstrated for a Ku-band low noise block down-converter(LNB) system. The on-chip voltage control oscillator core employing base-collector(B-C) junction diodes is proposed for simpler frequency tuning and easy fabrication instead of the general off-chip varactor diodes. The fabricated VCDRO achieves a high output power of 6.45 to 5.31 dBm and a wide frequency tuning range of ]65 MHz( 1.53 $\%$) with a low phase noise of below -95dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset and -115 dBc/Hz at ] MHz offset. A]so, the InGaP/GaAs HBT monolithic DRO with the same topology as the proposed VCDRO is fabricated to verify that the intrinsic low l/f noise of the HBT and the high Q of the DR contribute to the low phase noise performance. The fabricated DRO exhibits an output power of 1.33 dBm, and an extremely low phase noise of -109 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz and -131 dBc/Hz at ] MHz offset from the 10.75 GHz oscillation frequency.

The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) has attracted attention as an alternative numerical algorithm for solving fluid mechanics, and its intrinsic unsteadiness and weak numerical damping make it more suitable for aeroacoustic problems. In this paper, applicability of the LBM for solving flow noise problems is tested by applying it to predict transmission loss of a simple expansion silencer. The time history of the static pressure is recorded at the inlet and outlet pipes. The transmission loss (TL) of the muffler is computed by using three point method and two source method, respectively. The TL calculated using the LBM is compared with that computed using finite element method (FEM) and measured data. It is found through these comparisons that the LBM is capable of predicting TL of the simple expansion silencer accurately, which it is difficult to predict using the conventional CFD methods based on the RANS solvers.
The motion of organelles inside a cell is an important intrinsic indicator for assessing cell physiology and tissue viability. Dynamic contrast full-field optical coherence tomography (D-FFOCT) is a promising imaging technology that can visualize intracellular movements using the variance of temporal interference signals caused by biological motions. However, double-path interferometry in D-FFOCT can be highly vulnerable to surrounding noise, which may cause turbulence in the interference signals, contaminating the sample dynamics. Therefore, we propose a method for stabilized D-FFOCT imaging in noisy environments by using common-path interferometry in D-FFOCT. A comparative study shows that D-FFOCT with the proposed method achieves stable dynamic contrast imaging of a scattering phantom in motion that is over tenfold more noise-insensitive compared to the conventional one, and thus this imaging capability can provide cleaner motion contrast images. With the proposed approach, the intracellular dynamics of biological samples are imaged and monitored.

This study is aimed to inspect how the different sensitivities in Behavioral activation system (BAS) and Behavioral inhibition system (BIS) modulate on the properties of physiological responses stimulated by positive or negative affective sound. We measured the electroencephalogram (EEG) of 32 students, consisted of four groups depending on the BAS and BIS sensitivities, during listening to meditation music or noise. The EEG was recorded at Fp1 and Fp2 sites. After listening to music or noise, subjects reported the affect induced by the sound. For EEG, the power in the alpha band at Fp2, especially in the alpha-2 band (9.0-11.0 Hz) increased during the subjects listening to music, while the power at Fp1 increased during noise. During listening to meditation music, there is a tendency that the left-sided activation in prefrontal cortex (PFC) is positively correlated with the difference of BAS(Z)-BIS(Z). During listening to noise, there is a tendency that the right-sided activation in PFC is dominant in case any of the sensitivity of BAS or BIS is high. From these results we suggest that the physiological responses of different individuals in BAS and BIS react differently under the same emotionally provocative challenge.

In this paper, an approach for 3-D object segmentation and classification, which is based on eigen-values of polynomial function as their surface features, using neural network is proposed. The range images of 3-D objects are classified into surface primitives which are homogeneous in their intrinsic eigenvalue properties. The misclassified regions due to noise effect are merged into correct regions satisfying homogeneous constraints of Hopfield neural network. The proposed method has advantage of processing both segmentation and classification simultaneously.
