  • For future multimedia services, one of the most crucial issues is building an access network that can accommodate multimedia services in subscriber network. The VB5.2 interface of B-ISDN located between an access network and a service node allows dynamic allocation and release of ATM resources. The SG 13 of ITU-T is standardizing the B-BCC protocol, which is sequentially interworked with signaling protocols in the service node. To minimize a connection setup delay of the sequential interworking mode, we proposed the parallel interworking model in which the SN executes simultaneously the connection control protocol of VB5.2 interface and signaling protocol. We simulate two interworking models in terms of a connection setup delay and a completion ratio. The results of simulation show that our proposed parallel interworking model for the VB5.2 interface reduces the setup delay and has the similar completion ratio compared to the sequential interworking model. however, the connection setup delay of parallel interworking model becomes about seven tenths of that of the sequential interworking model and the improvement become larger as the arrival rate increased.

  • Open interfaces in the optica] Internet have been progressed by OIF's ISI, ITU-T ASTN's CCI and IETF's GSMP extensions with optical switching. These open interfaces enable the separation between the control plane and the optical transport plane. This separation allows flexibility in the network, but it suffers more setup delay than the traditional switch-by-switch connection setup. We propose the parallel interworking model, which will reduce the connection setup delay in the open interface of optical Internet. Based on the switch controller's caching capability about networks states, the parallel interworking procedures between signaling protocol and GSMP protocol are performed in the switch controller. We simulated and evaluated our proposed parallel interworking model and the existing sequential interworking model in terms of a connection setup delay and a completion ratio. We observed that the completion ratios of the two interworking models were quite close. However the connection setup delay of parallel interworking model is improved by about 30% compared with that of the sequential interworking model.

  • For high-speed Internet services, considerations on interworking methods are required for interworking between networks with different technologies. lnterworking and structures in interworking point nodes can affect on transfer efficiency. This paper proposes interworking procedures and functions of the edge routers for overhead reduction in MPOA-MPLS networks. The MPLS networks can be based on ATM technology. Therefore, we consider ATM seamless connections for the interworking and compare the proposed method with that without seamless connection. We perform computer simulations to get both of the transfer delays and throughputs for the comparison., we describe required interworking functions and operations in the edge routers.

  • Smart healthcare environments which merge medical and IT technology are getting ready for the third generation centering EHR from current second generation. As a basic technology for the introduction and activation of EHR systems it requires heterogeneous network interworking techniques between various wired and wireless medical devices. Interworking technology for heterogeneous network among various medical devices is needed to introduce EHR system. The heterogeneous network interworking technology is needed for construction of a reliable data system to convert each of unstructured data into structured data. Therefore, in this paper, we identify the domestic and international trends of smart medical field and analyze the characteristics of wired and wireless communication technology that is used in a heterogeneous network. and also suggest requirements needed for interworking technology and provide interworking technology based on them. we expect that proposed method which is designed for smart healthcare environments would provide a basic architecture needed for third smart medical technology generation.

  • Computer and communication network of the future will be the ISDN that enable various services. And now, it Is very Important to study the relevalent techniques to develop Interworking methods between existing computer network and ISDN The purpose of this paper Is to provide necessary basic He search results on the Interworkting method between local area network (LAN) and ISDN. For Interworking, we analyze the characteristic of existing LAN and ISDN and discuss considerations of Interworking and suggest the interworking method for CO and CL services. Also. we construct logical gateway for Interworking betwen LAN and ISDN and make formairnodeling of gateway using Petri net and verify the correctness of protocol with reachability tree. Research results should be helpful In designing and Implementing gateway between i()cal computer network and I SDN

  • UMTS-WLAN interworking approach can make the best use of the advantages of both networks by eliminating the stand-alone defects of the two services. For the interworking mechanisms of WLANs and UMTS networks, two major solutions have been proposed, namely loose coupling and tight coupling. The loose coupling approach provides separate data paths for WLAN and UMTS. On the other hand, the tight coupling provides a full integration of the WLAN network and the UMTS core network. The loose coupling has been preferred due to the simplicity and less reconfiguration requirement. However, loose coupling is worse in seamless mobility, QoS provision, and network security. In order to lessen the problems involved in the UMTS-WLAN interworking approaches, we propose a new interworking network architecture and a fast vertical handover scheme by employing Mobility Anchor(MA) for interworking between the two different networks. MA can enable authentication and session initialization before L2 handover of the mobile terminal, so that the seamless and fast vertical handover become possible. Thru analysis and numerical experiments, we proved that the proposed scheme has been validated.

  • A broadband access network in B-ISDN subscriber network, plays a role of concentration or multiplexing of various subscribers into a service node. For call and connection control functions, DSS2 and B-ISUP signalling protocols are standardized for each of a subscriber side and a network node. B-BCC and B-ANCC protocol were proposed for VB5.2 interface. This interface allows dynamic control of ATM connections at the broadband access network. To establish an end-to-end ATM connection, interworking functions between VB5.2 interface's connection control protocol and the signalling protocol, are performed at the service node. A sequential interworking model and a parallel interworking model were proposed for these interworking functions. The sequential interworking model recommended by ITU-T causes an overall connection setup delay by introducing the access network, because this model proceeds the signalling protocol of network node after the response of VB5.2 interface protocol. On the other hand, the parallel interworking model proceeds the signalling protocol and the VB5.2 interface protocol simultaneously. The simultaneity of the parallel interworking model minimizes the overall connection setup delay. In this paper, we analyze and simulate above two interworking models with B-BCC or B-ANCC protocol in terms of a connection setup delay and completion ratio.

  • Ongoing standardization effort on 3G cellular system in 3GPP (UNTS) is based on GPRS core network and promises a global standard for systems capable of offering ubiquitous access to internet for mobile users. Considered radio access systems(FDD CDMA, TDD CDMA, and EDGE) are optimized for robust mobile use. However, there are alternative relatively high-rate radio interfaces being standardized for WLAN (IEEE802.11 and HIPER-LAN/2) which are capable of delivering significantly higher data rates to static or semi-static terminals with much less overhead. Also WPANs(BLUETOOTH, IEEE802.15), which will be present in virtually every mobile handset in the near future, are offering low cast and considerable access data rate and thus are very attractive for interworking scenarios. The prospect of using these interfaces as alternative RANs inthe modular UMTS architecture is very promising. Additionally, the recent inclusion of M-IP in the UMTS R99 standard opens the way for IP-level interfacing to the core network. This article offers an overview into WLAN-Cellular interworking. A brief overview of GPRS, UMTS cellular architectures and relevant WLAN standards is given. Possible interworking architectures are presented.

  • Thousands of multimedia services are being developed over existing public networks and high-speed communication networks. In the multi-carrier network, seamless integration of terminals and services is essential in order to offer an end-to-end and user-independent service. In this paper, we propose the concept of the Interworking Broker to provide an infrastructure for building multimedia service interworking platform that supports interactive multimedia applications in distributed heterogeneous network environment. We describe main techniques developed to achieve the service interworking, and also the functional architecture of the Interworking Broker in heterogeneous ATM network environments.
