The purpose of this study is to examine the variables that may influence the level of family adaptation to schizophrenic patients using the Family Resiliency Model. The Family Resiliency Model is the most current extension of family stress Model. According to the Family Resiliency Model, The level of family adaptation in the face of a crisis situation is determined by a number of interacting components. The subjects are 151 family members with schizophrenic patient. The result from the research were as follows: 1) The following variables significantly correlated with the family adaptation: income of the family, educational level of the family, intimacy between family and patient, knowledge on schizophrenia, recognition of prognosis on schizophrenia. 2) The factors that compose the Family Resiliency Model significantly correlated with the level of family adaptation. 3) The result of stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that factors which predict the level of family adaptation were the family control, the quality of family communication, and the support from the extended family, these findings give us significant practical implications for social work intervention.

Purpose: This study was conducted to provide background information on nursing interventions to further enhance the quality of nursing practice and related professions, based on those performed for stroke patients. Methods: The analysis was performed in light of 84 researches papers on nursing intervention published between 1990 and 2010, and based on NIC(Nursing Interventions Classification) and NOC(Nursing Outcomes Classification). Results: 1. The quasi-experimental design was used as the most primary form of research design across 69 papers that constitute 82% of the total. 2. The number of nursing intervention methods identified throughout 84 research papers was 144. Based on the NIC that 90(62.5%) of those interventions fell into the physiological basic domain while 53(36.8%) belonged to the behavioral domain. 2) Interventions on activity and exercise management, physical comfort promotion, patient education conducted by class level of NIC were 40(27.78%), 34(23.61%), and 31(21.53%) respectively. 3) Outcomes of mobility, psychological well-being, energy maintenance, health & life quality measured by class of NOC among 317 dependent variables 79(24.92%), 64(20.19%), and 63(19.87%) respectively. Conclusion: Most interventions were classified as belonging to few particular domain types, which triggers needs for the development and application of multidisciplinary intervention methods through a more collective approach.
Purpose: This study investigated the prevalence of middle school students with ADHD and the level of middle school teacher's knowledge, coping strategies, and educational intervention for ADHD. Methods: There were 185 teachers and 6,381 middle school students at the 6 middle schools in Pusan. The data was collected from December 20, 2003 to January 10, 2004. Results: 195 middle school students had ADHD (3.1%). The male students with ADHD made up 4.4% of the total students and the female students with ADHD totaled 1.3%. The mean score of middle school teacher's knowledge about ADHD was 21.86 of the score total 32. The teachers used a negative coping style less than an active and passive coping style. Of the educational interventions, the environmental intervention in the classroom was used more than the educational intervention activity. 61.1% of the teachers responded that they did not know very much about ADHD. 93.5% of the teachers had no educational experience with ADHD. 94.1% felt that they needed an education program about ADHD and over half of them intended to participate in an ADHD education program. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we concluded that the middle school teachers felt that they had insufficient knowledge about ADHD. They wanted the opportunity to increase their knowledge of ADHD. Therefore, it is necessary for educational programs about ADHD for teachers to be developed and made available to them.
The purpose of the study was to develop an integrated prevention program to strengthen elders self-care capability and to examine its effectiveness on their psychological condition. This study used one group pre- and post-test design. Subjects were 85 elderly residents (over 65 years of age) who lived alone, and received free basic medical care and social welfare services in a rural community in Korea. Subject eligibility criteria for this study were to an elders who 1) is not currently taking any anti-depressant medication 2) is able to communicate, and 3) agrees to participate in this study. The integrated program was composed of horticulture, reminiscence, and friendship activities. Twelve sessions were provided for 12 weeks in community-based partnerships to achieve better outcomes. The intervention was case-managed by a public health nurse and aided by six volunteers. The main outcome variable was depression, which was assessed by using 15 items selected from the Geriatric Depression Scale-short form Korean version. Socio-demographic characteristics, functional status, and satisfaction with social support were used as covariates. Results showed that there was a significant intervention effect at post-intervention time point compared to pre-intervention time point(E.S. 0.94). Multiple linear regression analysis showed significant interaction effects between intervention and satisfaction with social support. These findings must be interpreted within the context that an effects of an integrated program could be more synergistically increased when social support factor is considered in the program. A community-based integrated prevention program of depression is effective for vulnerable rural elderly. It is suggested that randomized controlled trials within community setting for better methodological strength as well as multi-level outcomes on community need to be conducted in future.

Objectives: An attempt was made to understand the nicotine dependence of smokers selected for an ongoing smoking cessation intervention programme in rural Kerala, India. Methods: Data were collected from resident males in the age group of 18 to 60 years from 4 randomly allocated community development blocks of rural Thiruvananthapuram district (2 intervention and 2 control groups). Trained accredited social health activist workers were utilised to collect data from all groups through face to face interview. Nicotine dependence among participants was assessed by means of the six-item Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) translated into the local language. The internal consistency of FTND was computed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Criterion validity (concurrent) was assessed by correlations of nicotine dependence scores with age at initiation of smoking and cumulative smoking volume in pack-years. Results: Among the 928 smokers identified, 474 subjects were in the intervention area (mean age = 44.6 years, SD = 9.66 years) and 454 in the control area (mean age = 44.5 years, SD = 10.30 years). The overall FTND score among current daily smokers was 5.04 (SD: 5.05). FTND scores in the control and intervention areas were 4.75 (SD: 2.57) and 4.92 (SD: 2.51) respectively. The FTND scores increased with age and decreased with higher literacy and socioeconomic status. The average FTND score was high among smokers using both bidi and cigarettes (mean 6.10, SD 2.17). Internal consistency analysis yielded a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.70 in a subsample of 150 subjects, a moderate result. The association of the scale was strongest, with the number of pack-years smoked (rho = 0.677, p < 0.001). Conclusion: A moderate level of nicotine dependence was observed among smokers in the current study. Tobacco cessation strategies could be made more cost effective and productive if a baseline assessment of nicotine dependence is completed before any intervention.
Purpose : This study was designed to apply a "stage of change" exercise intervention program to obese children in elementary school and to examine its effects on their BMI. stage of change. process . and self-efficacy in exercise. Methods : The experimental group included 64 children in the fourth . fifth and sixth grades. from one elementary school. whose BMI was in the H5th percentile or more for their age groups. The control group had 6 1 students from a different one elementary school whose conditions were the same as those of the experimental group. Results: After the stage of change exercise intervention was applied, the BMI of the experimental group decreased by a significant enough degree to conclude that the program was effective in decreasing BMI. After the application of the program. the experimental group experienced a significant increase in their helping relationships. counter-conditioning . reinforcement management and stimulus control compared 10 the control group. After the program. self-efficacy in terms of exercise increased significantly in the experimental group. Conclusion: A stages of change exercise intervention program has been shown to engage individual students and encourage them 10 maintain a higher fitness level that promote s self-efficacy in exercise and therefore moves them towards healthier lifestyles. Moreover. the study proved that a significant reduction of BMI was achieved by the stages of change exercise intervention program.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sling exercise on the cervical lordotic angle, craniovertebral angle, and head rotation angle among adolescents in the forward head posture. Methods: The subjects include 22 adolescents that recorded a mild level or higher on the posture evaluation index by New York State. They were randomly divided to the hand exercise group (n=11) and the control group (n=11). The former group participated in the sling exercise program three times a week over four weeks in total with each session lasting 60 minutes, whereas the latter group was not included in the program. The cervical lordotic angle, craniovertebral angle, and head rotation angle were measured before and after the intervention. Results: The study compared the cervical lordotic angle between the two groups before and after sling exercise and found that the sling exercise group made an increase of $7.36^{\circ}$ from $21.91^{\circ}$ to $29.27^{\circ}$ after the intervention(p<.05). As for the comparison results of the craniovertebral angle, the sling exercise group made an increase of $5.64^{\circ}$ from $48.91^{\circ}$ to $54.55^{\circ}$ after the intervention (p<.05). As for the comparison results of the cranial-rotation angle, the sling exercise group made an decrease of $-7.73^{\circ}$ from $148.82^{\circ}$ to $141.09^{\circ}$ after the intervention (p<.05). The control group showed no differences before and after the intervention (p>.05). Conclusion: Those findings indicate that the application of sling exercise in the forward head posture can be a good program to maintain the right posture and improve or prevent an abnormal posture and raise a need for more clinical applications and ongoing researches.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention program using dietary consult and physical exercise conducted by public health center in Chuncheon city for obese adults. This study used a pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 58 out of 90 obese adults with body mass index (BMI) greater than $25kg/m^2$ who completed all education sessions for 8 weeks. Data on dietary habits, dietary behaviors, nutritional knowledge, anthropometric parameters and biochemical indices and daily nutrient intakes assessed by a 24-hour recall were collected before and after the intervention program., in order to evaluate program effectiveness. After the intervention, there were positive changes in exercise status and dietary habits and nutrition knowledge accuracy. Especially, the answer of 'I drink a cup of milk every day' were significantly improved (p<0.001), and the answer of 'I don't overeat', which is a dietary attitude question was significantly improved (p<0.05). Dietary intakes of most of nutrients were not significantly different between pre-test and post-test. But calcium (p<0.05), potassium (p<0.05), vitamin A (p<0.01), vitamin E (p<0.05), and folic acid (p<0.05) were significantly increased in the female group after the intervention. Weight (p<0.05), BMI (p<0.01), blood pressure (p<0.001), were significantly decreased after program, but changes of skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass were not significant. Resting heart rate (p<0.01), flexibility (p<0.001), whole body reaction (p<0.05), grip strength (p<0.01) and balance (p<0.01) showed positive changes after the intervention. Blood glucose level in serum was significantly decreased (p<0.001). These results indicated that dietary education and exercise program was effective not only for weight reduction but also for the improvement of physical fitness in obese adults.

Background: The study is the first of its kind to be conducted in Saudi Arabia (KSA), aiming to analyze the effectiveness of an intervention program in improving the knowledge of oral cancer among the youth. Materials and Methods: A total of 1,051 young Saudis (57% males and 43% females with a mean age of $20.4{\pm}1.98$) were selected using multi-stage cluster sampling. Knowledge assessment was accomplished using a closed-ended questionnaire which was subjected to reliability tests. Prevalence of risk factors in relation to gender was analyzed using the chi-squared test. Effectiveness was calculated by comparing the pre- and post-intervention means, using the two-tailed paired t-test. Multiple logistic regression was employed in order to determine factors associated with awareness of risk habits, signs/symptoms and prevention of oral cancer. The significance level in this study was set at 0.05. Results: Females were seen to be more into the habit of sheesha smoking (3.3% rather than the use of other forms of risk factors. Prevalence of diverse risk factors such as cigarette smoking (20%), sheesha (15.3%), khat (27%) and shamma (9%) was seen among males. Gender and the use of modifiable risk factors among the study sample were significantly (p<0.001) associated with effectiveness of the intervention. The intervention program was highly effective (p<0.001) in improving the knowledge of oral cancer among the youth in Jazan, KSA. Multivariate analysis revealed that age and gender are the most significant factors affecting knowledge. Conclusions: The study gives a direction for further public health initiatives in this oral cancer prone region.
Background: Nursing intervention studies often suffer from a selection bias introduced by failure of random assignment. Evaluation with selection bias could under or over-estimate any intervention's effects. PS matching (PSM) can reduce a selection bias through matching similar Propensity Scores (PS). PS is defined as the conditional probability of being treated given the individual's covariates and it can be reused to balance the covariates of two groups. Purpose: This study was done to assess the significance of PSM as an alternative evaluation method of nursing interventions. Method: An intervention study for patients with some baseline individual characteristic differences between two groups was used for this demonstration. The result of a t-test with PSM was compared with a t-test without matching. Results: The level of HbA1c at 12 months after baseline was different between the two groups in terms of matching or not. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the effects of a quasi-random assignment. Evaluation using PSM can reduce a selection bias impact that affects the result of the nursing intervention. Analyzing nursing research more objectively to reduce selection bias using PSM is needed.
