Depositional Facies Analysis from Seismic Attributes: Implication of Reservoir Characterization

  • This study includes structural analysis of the northern Pattani Basin, areal description of depositional facies, and their spatial relationships using 3-D seismic and well data. Well log data indicate that the representative depositional facies of the studied intervals are sandy, fluvial, channel-fill facies encased in shaly floodplain deposits. Seismic responses were predicted from a synthetic seismogram using a model of dominant depositional facies. Peak-to-trough amplitude and instantaneous frequency seismic attributes are used in depositional facies interpretation. Three Intervals A, B and C are interpreted on the successive stratal surfaces. The shallowest interval, A, is the Quaternary transgressive succession. Each stratal surface showed flow pattern variation of fluvial channel facies. Two transgressive cycles were identified in interval A. Interval B also indicated fluvial facies. Depositional facies architectures are described by interpreting seismic attributes on the successive stratal surfaces.

한국어 집합 시간 표현의 의미 유형과 표상 (Semantic Types and Representation of Korean Set Time Expressions)

  • This study introduces set-denoting time expressions in Korean, which can be divided into simple and complex types. It was found that while the simple type expressions are easily represented within ISO-TimeML, a time-expression markup language, some complex type set-denoting expressions are not. Therefore, this study analyzes the reason for these difficulties in representing complex type expressions, as well as suggests the introduction of @measure and @interpretation attributes in the TIMEX3 tag. The @measure attribute represents the time interval, and the @interpretation attribute is used to distinguish distributive readings from cumulative readings. Additionally this paper suggests that a mapping between these and other attributes are required in TLINK.

  • In this paper, a versatile multi-criteria optimization concept for fatigue life prediction is introduced. Multi-criteria decision making in engineering design refers to obtaining a preferred optimal solution in the context of conflicting design objectives. Compromise decision support problems are used to model engineering decisions involving multiple trade-offs. These methods typically rely on a summation of weighted attributes to accomplish trade-offs among competing objectives. This paper gives an interpretation of the decision parameters as governing both the relative importance of the attributes and the degree of compensation between them. The approach utilizes a response surface model, the compromise decision support problem, which is a multi-objective formulation based on goal programming. Examples illustrate the concepts and demonstrate their applicability.

Scalable Approach to Failure Analysis of High-Performance Computing Systems

  • Failure analysis is necessary to clarify the root cause of a failure, predict the next time a failure may occur, and improve the performance and reliability of a system. However, it is not an easy task to analyze and interpret failure data, especially for complex systems. Usually, these data are represented using many attributes, and sometimes they are inconsistent and ambiguous. In this paper, we present a scalable approach for the analysis and interpretation of failure data of high-performance computing systems. The approach employs rough sets theory (RST) for this task. The application of RST to a large publicly available set of failure data highlights the main attributes responsible for the root cause of a failure. In addition, it is used to analyze other failure characteristics, such as time between failures, repair times, workload running on a failed node, and failure category. Experimental results show the scalability of the presented approach and its ability to reveal dependencies among different failure characteristics.

  • 정밀한 구조물의 상태진단 혹은 안전성 평가는 비파괴 시험의 정밀성(Accuracy), 변이성(Variability) 등과 같은 여러 가지 요소에 의하여 좌우된다. 특히 비파괴 시험을 이용한 측정값과 구조물의 상태에 있어서의 불확실성(Uncertainty)은 정밀한 상태진단에 큰 영향을 미친다. 비파괴 시험을 활용함에 있어서의(간접조사) 신뢰할만한 비파괴 장비라면 현 구조물의 상태(피해면적)를 정확하게 나타낼 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문은 현재 사용이 증가되고 있는 비파괴 장비의 올바른 선택과 정확한 구조물의 안전 진단을 위하여, 비파괴장비의 성능 평가에 있어 확률적 기초를 제공한다.

실내디자인에서 'Mix & Match'의 속성 및 표현특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Attributes and Expression Characteristics of 'Mix & Match' in Interior Design)

  • This study examines attributes and expression characteristics of 'Mix & Match' which is one of the major current trends in interior designs. The concept and background of 'Mix & Match' was ascertained through research of previous documents and studies, and its attributes were explored. In order to examine the expression characteristics to see how they are expressed in actual interior designs, case analyses were carried out centering on the expression elements such as material, light & lighting, color, furniture and objects which were regarded as important in previous studies and related articles so far. The case analyses were carried out for works where the concept of 'Mix & Match' was prominent in designs produced in 2007 and 2008, chosen from the main reports of the representative interior design journals, 'Interiors' and 'INTERNI & Decor'. As a result, it has been found that 'Mix & Match' is not limited to one attribute but the temporal, spatial and genre attributes are present all at the same time, or various expression elements exist in one attribute. This is a distinct character commonly shown in most of the cases and each expression element is expressed in variety according to spatial concept, from a simple parallel to substitution, transfer and modification (simplification, transformation of the scale, rate modification etc.) Therefore, in creating the space for 'Mix & Match' or in interpretation of it, the understanding of these expression characteristics would make it possible for clearer and more various applications of design, and furthermore will be meaningful for supply and accumulation of reference in design communication.

  • Preference map is a widely used graphical method for the preference data set which is frequently encountered in the field of marketing research. This provides joint configuration usually in two dimensional space between "products" and their "attributes". Whereas the classical preference map adopts the ordinary least squares method in deriving map, the present article suggests the weighted least squares approach providing the better graphical display and interpretation compared to the classical one. Internet search engine data in Korea are analysed for illustration.

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate the conformity of Korean Standards(KS) according to agreement on WTO/TBT, and to propose systematic frameworks of preparation, adoption, and application for KS in our enterprises. Significant changes in this establishment, revision, and abrogation include the following divisions; i) statistics-vocabulary and symbols, ii) Shewhart control chart, iii) statistical interpretation of data, iv) sampling procedures for inspection by attributes, v) sequential sampling plans for inspection.

  • 최근 들어 도시 재개발 과정에서 중요시되는 도시 워터프런트를 다각적으로 이해하고자 하는 여러 시도들이 이루어지고 있다. 본 고에서는 수(水)문화 개념에 입각하여 항구도시 워터프런트를 문화론적으로 해석하고자 시도했다. 본 논문은 안과 밖을 허물고 경계를 희석시키는 물의 속성에 기반하여 바다의 역동성과 집합성, 개방성 속성에 기초하여 워터프런트가 가진 속성을 밝혔다. 그리하여 항구도시 워터프런트가 지닌 경계성, 개방성, 혼종성, 통로적 성격이라는 문화론적 속성이 도시 거주민의 문화정체성 형성에 깊은 영향을 미친다는 점을 부산의 사례를 통해 강조하였다. 이를 통해 항구도시 워터프런트와 거주민들의 문화정체성간의 상관관계를 분명히 하였다. 나아가 이런 상관관계에 대한 이해가 항구도시 워터프런트 개발의 방향성에 반영되어야 한다고 제안한다.
