  • In this paper, a fast algorithm of discrete cosine transform-based interpolation filter (DCT-IF) for HEVC (high efficiency video coding) encoder is proposed. DCT-IF filter accounts for around 30% of encoder complexity, according to the computational complexity analysis with the HEVC reference software. In this work, the proposed DCT-IF is optimized by applying frame-level interpolation, SIMD optimization, and task-level parallelization via OpenMP on a developed C-based HEVC encoder. Performance analysis is conducted by measuring speed-up factor of the proposed optimization technique on the developed encoder. The results show that speed-up factors by frame-level interpolation, SIMD, and OpenMP are approximately 38-46, 3.6-4.4, and 3.0-3.7, respectively. In the end, we achieved the speed-up factor of 498.4 with the proposed fast algorithm.

  • Interpolation based information hiding methods are widely used to get information security. Conventional interpolation methods use the neighboring pixel value and simple calculation like average to embed secret bit stream into the image. But these information hiding methods are not appropriate to color images like military images because the characteristics of military images are not considered and these methods are restricted in grayscale images. In this paper, the new information hiding method based on interpolation using RGB pixel values of color image is proposed and the effectiveness is analyzed through experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose an edge profile adaptive bi-directional diffusion interpolation method which consists of shock filter and level set. In recent years many interpolation methods have been proposed but all methods have some degrees of artifacts such as blurring and jaggies. To solve these problems, we adaptively apply shock filter and level set method where shock filter enhances edge along the normal direction and level set method removes jaggies artifact along the tangent direction. After the initial interpolation, weights of shock filter and level set are locally adjusted according to the edge profile. By adaptive coupling shock filter with level set method, the proposed method can remove jaggies artifact and enhance the edge. Experimental results show that the average PSNR and MSSIM of our method are increased, and contour smoothness and edge sharpness are also improved.

  • In this study, terrain classification was done by using the quantitative classification parameter and suitable interpolation method was applied to improve the accuracy of digital terrain models and to increase its practical applications. A study area was classified into three groups using the quantitative classification parameters and an interpolation equation suitable for each group was used for economical application of the interpolation method. The accuracy of digital terrain models was improved in case of large grid intervals by applying combined interpolation method suitable for each terrain group.

  • The Element-free Galerkin Method has become a very popular tool for the simulation of mechanical problems with moving boundaries. The internally applied Moving Least Squares interpolation uses in general Gaussian or cubic weighting functions and has compact support. Due to the approximative character of this interpolation the obtained shape functions do not fulfill the interpolation conditions, which causes additional numerical effort for the application of the boundary conditions. In this paper a new weighting function is presented, which was designed for meshless shape functions to fulfill these essential conditions with very high accuracy without any additional effort. Furthermore this interpolation gives much more stable results for varying size of the influence radius and for strongly distorted nodal arrangements than existing weighting function types.

  • This paper proposes a new frame interpolation algorithm mainly designed for intra-mode blocks. In order to improve the accuracy of pixel interpolation, the new algorithm exploits two different interpolation modes for inter-mode blocks and intra-mode blocks, respectively. The use of the two modes reduces ghost artifacts but increases blocking artifacts between the blocks interpolated by different modes. To reduce blocking artifacts, this paper proposes an interpolation algorithm that attempts to isolate a fast moving object and interpolates such objects as the intra-mode while the remaining blocks are interpolated as the inter-mode. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves subjective and objective quality of pictures by reducing ghost artifacts.

  • In parametric surface interpolation, the choice of the parameter values to the set of scattered points makes a great deal of difference in the resulting surface. A new method is developed and tested for the parametrization in NURBS surface global interpolation. This method uses the parameter value at the maximal value of relevant rational basis function, to assign the parameter values to the arbitrary set of design data. This method gives us several important advantages in geometric modeling, the freedom of the selection of knot values, the feasible transformation of the data set to the matrix, the possibility of affinite transformation between the design data and generated surface, etc.

  • To improve the modeling accuracy for the finite element method, this paper proposes a method to make a combined use of finite elements and exact dynamic elements. Exact interpolation functions for a Timoshenko beam element are derived and compared with interpolation functions of the finite element method (FEM). The exact interpolation functions are tested with the Laplace variable varied. The exact interpolation functions are used to gain more accurate mode shape functions for the finite element method. This paper also presents a combined use of finite elements and exact dynamic elements in design problems. A Timoshenko frame with tapered sections is tested to demonstrate the design procedure with the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we analyze the channel estimation performances associated with the interpolation order for OFDM systems. We first analyze the time varying channel and frequency selective channel, and then we derive the channel Index which indicates the ratio of time axis variation and frequency axis variation. The analyzed results show that time interpolation followed by a frequency interpolation is adequate for the channel with a channel index larger than a certain threshold value and vice versa. Computer simulation explains that the method which decides Interpolation order outperforms fixed order estimation.
