A Qualitative Study on Interpersonal Relationships of Patients with Facial Burn Injuries: Phenomenological Study (안면화상환자의 대인관계 경험: 현상학적 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to explore the experience of patients with facial burn injuries regarding their interpersonal relationships. Methods: The phenomenological research method was used. Participants of the study consisted of five males and three females. Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews from November, 2014 to February, 2015 and analyzed using Colaizzi's method. Results: Five theme clusters were extracted that described patients' experiences. They are "being a lonely foreigner," "closing my mind toward the world," "hiding hurt feelings," "companion of my face," and "communicating with the world". Conclusion: The results of this study provide a deep understanding and insight into the experience of interpersonal relationships among facial burn patients. The development of a comprehensive program including physical, psychological, and social aspects is recommended to address the problems facial burn patients encounter in interpersonal relationships and to facilitate interaction.

Effect of Depressive Vulnerability on Interpersonal Problems among University Students: Focusing on Moderating Effect of Ego-Resilience (대학생의 우울취약성이 대인관계문제에 미치는 영향: 자아탄력성의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study investigates the effect of depressive vulnerability on the interpersonal problems of university students. We explore the moderating effects of ego-resilience on the relation between depressive vulnerability and interpersonal problems. We selected 380 university students as participants from Daegu and Gyeongsan cities. Collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, moderating effect with SPSS 23.0. PROCESS, a SPSS macro program developed by Hayes (2013). The findings are as follows. First, there were significant correlations between non-sociability and dependency, self-criticism, non-self-assertiveness, over-consideration, dominance, personal relations, emotion control, and optimism. Second, ego-resilience was found to moderate the relationship between depressive vulnerability and non-self- assertiveness, over-consideration, and dominance among university students. This study suggests that intervention to address ego-resilience are important to resolve the interpersonal problems of university students.

Social Comparison Theory and Interpersonal Contact: The Influence of Incidental Envy on Contacting Higher or Lower Status Others

  • Incidental envy influences behavior in various domains. However, no research, to date, has investigated whether incidental envy influences interpersonal behavior toward others who are unrelated to the emergence of the emotion. That is, the literature is silent on how those who experience incidental envy engage in interpersonal contact and how this may affect consumers. In this paper, we address this question by investigating the influence of incidental envy on interpersonal contact with others of higher or lower status based on the social comparison theory. We demonstrate that incidental envy (versus a neutral emotion) motivates people to contact higher status others to facilitate upward assimilation (experiments 1 and 2). We also show that when competition (a situational factor that heightens the personal relevance of the interaction with the target) is involved, individuals who feel envy (versus a neutral emotion) are more likely to contact lower status others to engage in downward contrast (experiment 3). We conclude with a discussion of the practical implications of our findings.

Influence of Ego states, Self Esteem, and Empathies on Interpersonal Relationship of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 자아상태, 자존감, 공감정도가 대인관계에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects that nursing students' ego-states, self esteem, and empathies have on their interpersonal relationships. The subjects of this study were 210 nursing students who enrolled in interpersonal relationship & communication classes at A university in J city. Collected data were analysed with descriptive analysis, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. The results showed self esteem took 37 as a significant predictors of interpersonal relationship, followed by FC (Free Child, 26), and AC (Accepted Child, -18). The model explained 42% of the variables. Based on the findings, I suggest educational interventions should consider these factors to enhance nursing students' interpersonal relationships.

  • Interpersonal trust is the mutual "faithfulness" on which all social relationship ultimately depend and applicable to the relations among people rather than to their psychological states taken individually. Recent development in the organizational sciences reflect the importance of interpersonal trust relationships for sustaining individual and organizational effectiveness, researchers have recongnized trust's influence on coordination and control at both institutional and interpersonal levels of organization. Because economic action is embeded within networks of social relationships. researchers have argued that efficiency within complex systems of coordinated action is only possible when interdependent actors work together effectively. Thus, for managers and professionals in organizations, developing and maintaining trust relationship is especially import. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the mechanism of interpersonal trust in the organization. The Relations Between Maternal Meta-Emotion Philosophy, Child Interpersonal Problem Solving, and Peer Competence (어머니의 상위정서철학과 아동의 대인 간 문제해결능력 및 또래 유능성 간의 관계)

  • Objective: This study examined the relations between maternal meta-emotion philosophy, child interpersonal problem solving, and peer competence among children aged 4-5 and their mothers and teachers. Methods: A total of 54 children from 24 kindergartens were assessed on their interpersonal problem solving and peer competence. Their mothers reported on meta-emotion philosophy. Their teachers were assessed on child peer competence. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows. First, maternal meta-emotion philosophy, child interpersonal problem solving, and child peer competence showed positive correlation patterns. Second, child interpersonal problem solving and peer competence was found to be influenced by maternal child-directed meta-emotion philosophy but not by maternal self-directed meta-emotion philosophy. Conclusion: Findings highlight the importance of maternal meta-emotion philosophy and that their emotion socialization play a significant role in identifying the mechanisms leading to child social cognitive ability and social adjustment. Furthermore, these results could lead to important basic studies in developing parent/teacher education programs.

Effects of Cognitive-behavioral Group Counselling on the Self-esteem and Interpersonal Skills of School Bullying Victims (인지행동적 집단상담이 집단따돌림 피해학생의 자아존중감과 대인기술에 미치는 효과)

  • In an attempt to help improve school bullying victims' self-esteem and interpersonal skills, this study explored the effects of a cognitive-behavioral group counselling program on the victims. The subjects of this study were six middle school female students who were identified as bullying victims by their teachers. They had T-scores of 65 or more on one or more scales in the MMPI-A. The cognitive-behavioral group counselling program was developed to improve their self-esteem and interpersonal skills and was administered twice a week from November 28 to December 30, 2005, totalling ten occasions. Major findings of the study include the following: First, there was a significant difference in self-esteem between pre- and post-tests. All the scores on six tests given on a period-by-period basis showed significant changes at the significance level of 0.1%. Secondly, there was a significant difference in interpersonal skills between pre- and post-tests at the level of 5%. All the scores on six tests given on a period-by-period basis also showed significant changes at the significance level of 0.1%. These findings demonstrate that cognitive-behavioral group counselling is effective in improving school bullying victims' self-esteem and interpersonal skills.

  • This study looked at the influence of MMORPG's motivation on interpersonal competence through MMORPG's social usage. For this, 496 surveys were retrieved. As a result, the social usage of MMORPG was completely mediated in the relationship between motivation and interpersonal competence. The social usage of MMORPG has a positive full mediation effect on the relationship between the social relationships motivation and the interpersonal competence. And Immersion/Escapism motivation, the social usage of MMORPG has reduced the negative effect on the interpersonal competence.

Effects of Korean Enneagram Program on the Ego-identity, Interpersonal Relationship, and Self-leadership of Nursing College Students (한국형 에니어그램 프로그램이 간호대학생의 자아정체감, 대인관계 및 셀프리더십에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the effects of the Korean Enneagram program on college nursing students' ego-identity, interpersonal relationships and self-leadership. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used. Twenty-nine students were in the experimental group receiving the Korean Enneagram program, and 28 were in the control group with no treatment. Results: 'The experimental group will show higher scores for ego-identity (t=3.97, p<.001), interpersonal relationship (t=3.26, p=.002) and self-leadership (t=2.91, p=.007) compared to the control group 8 weeks after the program finished' was supported by significant differences in the scores between the two groups. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the Korean Enneagram Program has a significant effect on improving ego-identity, interpersonal skills and self-leadership in nursing college students and the program can be used as a tool to promote the ego-identity, interpersonal skills and self-leadership of nursing students.

The Emotional Intelligence, Defense Mechanism and Interpersonal Caring Behavior by Enneagram Personality Types in Nursing Students (에니어그램 성격유형에 따른 간호대학생의 정서지능, 방어기제와 대인돌봄행위)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the emotional intelligence, defense mechanism and interpersonal caring behavior by enneagram personality types in nursing students. Methods: A descriptive survey design was used and data were collected using questionnaires from a sample of 263 nursing students. The data were analyzed using by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis with SPSS 20.0. Results: In the enneagram personality types, the nursing students was highly measured the type 9(Peacemaker). Emotional intelligence was significantly associated with financial status of parents, motivation of admission and satisfaction of nursing by enneagram characters. Hoping and sharing of interpersonal caring behaviors were significantly differentiated with the power type of enneagram personality. And active listening, comforting, participating of interpersonal caring behaviors were the most popular among the 9 types of personality. There was a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and interpersonal caring behavior. Conclusion: This study suggest that nursing students should be educated the interpersonal caring behavior program considering emotional intelligence and enneagram personality types.
