  • M2M can provide the bi-directional services between applications and objects which have the attached telecommunication module. It consists of the objects, platform, and (web based) applications. M2M can realize In-Transit Visibility and Asset Visibility combined with GIS. Although many applications of M2M, such as metering, monitoring, controlling, tracking et al., are being serviced, the interoperability among the M2Ms is not considered. In this paper, we described the interoperability. Specially, ROA, which is the state of art technology in mash-up, more than SOA, and URN, which is based on Open API in RESTful service, more than URL are studied. As the message protocol between platform and applications, MPM was defined.

  • Construction industries have increasingly utilized Building information Modeling (BIM) technologies. Interoperability - the capability for BIM data to run from one computer application to another in the life cycle of a project has become one of the principal research areas. Enhancing interoperability inevitably requires information structures that are standardized throughout the construction industries. As a candidate of the data exchange standard, Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) has been developed and several researches recently performed to measure its richness of digital data exchange. But doubts have been brought up whether IFC meets a sufficient level of interoperability since the research result revealed a number of cases of information misrepresentation and loss. This research presents the lessons learned from the interoperability tests of three widely used 3D design applications including Graphisoft's Archicad, Autodesk's Revit, and Bentley's Bentley Architecture. One building's architectural and structural design data were modeled with the three tools and exchanged through IFC respectively for interoperability test.

  • The Architecture, engineering, & construction (AEC) industry domains have grown more complex and larger, BIM is a digital representation of a building to facilitate the exchange and development of construction information integration and interoperability. Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs), under development by International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI), represent the part of buildings or elements of a process. IFC has been adopted as a central information repository in order to deliver integrated building information. Other BIM software could open the IFC file, recognize standard objects such as walls, window, and doors as building components. The IFC standard is generally agreed to be of high quality and is widely implemented in software. However, sometimes, information distortion or information toss occurrs during information exchang. The IAI Model Support Group (IAI-MSG) offers the opportunity to certify IFC-compliant applications based on a structuralized approach. However, IFC interoperability error also have occurred by using certificated tools. As project participants exchange BIM information by using BIM software they will need a reliable and efficient exchange of information. In this paper, previous interoperability tests were analyzed, and we propose a new concept in interoperability test.

  • Different CAx systems are being utilized throughout the product lifecycle due to the practical reasons in the supply chain and design processes. One of the major problems facing enterprises of today is how to share and exchange data among heterogeneous applications. Since different software applications use different terminologies, it is difficult to share and exchange the product data with internal and external partners. This paper presents a method to enhance the CAD model interoperability based on feature ontology. The feature ontology has been constructed based on the feature definition of modeling commands of CAD systems. A method for integration of semantic data has been proposed, implemented, and tested with two commercial CAD systems.

  • The network for proving information exchange function in distributed system is interconnected among other networks which are in the state of independent construction and operation. However, due to various network protocols and distributed applications, Problems occurred in the area of network interconnectivity and interoperability of distributed applications in internetworking which should provide a good interoperability. This paper proposed an improved method for finding route which has the highest interworkability between end-systems using the interrelationship of network protocol. An algorithm and method of constructing a virtual network which is suitable for required distributed application are also proposed in this research.

  • As the networks connect the world, enterprises tend to move manufacturing activities into virtual spaces. Since different software applications use different data terminology, it becomes a problem to interoperate, interchange, and manage electronic data among heterogeneous systems. It is said that approximately one billion dollar has been being spent yearly in USA for product data exchange and interoperability. As commercial CAD systems have brought in the concept of design feature for the sake of interoperability, terminologies of design features need to be harmonized. In order to define design feature terminology for integration, knowledge about feature definitions of different CAD systems should be considered. STEP standard have attempted to solve this problem, but it defines only syntactic data representation so that semantic data integration is not possible. This paper proposes a methodology for integrating modeling features of CAD systems. We utilize the ontology concept to build a data model of design features which can be a semantic standard of feature definitions of CAD systems. Using feature ontology, we implement an integrated virtual database and a simple system which searches and edits design features in a semantic way.

  • The main questions of this study are how to reuse GIS applications and what to do for interoperability of the applications in local governments. To answer the questions, related technologies and standards of GIS are investigated. International standard organizations, such as ISO/TC211 and OGC(OpenGIS Consortium), are working on GIS interoperability standards based on component technology and distributed computing environments. In this study, a standard model for interoperability of GIS applications in local governments is proposed based on the international standards. Standardization process of GIS interfaces in local governments is as followed: 1) modeling of GIS business and 2) establishment of GIS service architectures 3) defining GIS standard interfaces 4) GIS component. In conclusion, by developing interoperable GIS applications based on component technology the reusability in local governments can be realized.

  • Under ubiquitous environment, applications can gather and utilize various sensing information. There are many issues such as energy management, protocol standardization, independency on sensor fields, and security to be resolved for the complete ubiquitous computing. Especially, the independent information access in the sensor field is one of the most important issues to maximize the usability of sensors in various sensor fields. However, existing frameworks are not suitable for the ubiquitous computing environment because of data heterogeneity between data elements in sensor fields. Existing applications are dependent to sensor fields and sensors in the existing ubiquitous computing on environment is dependent to the application in the sensor field. In other word, an application can utilize just information from a specific sensor field. To overcome this restriction, many issues from a hardware or software view must be resolved. In this paper, we provide the design and implementation of the Metadata Registry-based framework (UbiMDR) of the Ubiquitous environment. This framework can provides the semantic interoperability among ubiquitous applications or various sensor fields. In addition, we describe comparison evaluation between conventional Ubiquitous computing framework and UbiMDR framework with data accuracy of interoperability.

  • Information superhighway and improvement of computing power result in increase of the requirements for distributed multimedia applications. But, developer of applications needs much time and efforts because of the difficulties of development, enhancement and maintenance of distributed applications. To solve this problem, CORBA is used widely. But, the definitions of CORBA services are required for the brief developments of distributed multimedia applications. Especially, collaboration service is required because multiple users use distributed multimedia service. Collaboration service manages user and group information of applications and makes the interoperability between of multi users. In this paper, we designed collaboration service for CORBA based distributed multimedia applications. Collaboration service is able to maintain group information and to present the ability for collaborative works between of multi users. Application developers can develop the applications easily because the ability of collaborative works is offered by collaboration service.

  • With the rapid growth of network technology, two or more products from different vendors are integrated and interact with each other to perform a certain function in the latest systems. Thus. interoperability testing is considered as an essential aspect of correctness of integrated systems. Interoperability testing is to test the ability of software and hardware on different machines from different vendors to share data. Most of the researches model communication system behavior using EFSM(Extended Finite State Machines) and use EFSM as an input of test scenario generation algorithm. Actually, there are many studies on systematic and optimal test case generation algorithms using EFSM. But in these researches, the study for generating EFSM model which is a foundation of test scenario generation isn't sufficient. This study proposes an EFSM generating technique from informal requirement analysis document for more complete interoperability testing. and implements prototype of Test Case Generation Tool generating test cases semi-automatically. Also we describe theoretical base and algorithms applied to prototype implementation.
