  • In this study, 1 have analyzed the state of the use of information technology by the at-risk children who are residing in Husan metropolitan area. The ultimate goal of this study is to help ensure the healthy development of the children and improve the quality of their lives in this information-oriented society. For this research, 1 surveyed 183 children living in an institution or a low-income family in Busan metropolitan area. The survey questionnaire was designed to obtain information on the respondents, socio-demographic characteristics, computer-related conditions of the immediate and social environments, patterns of computer and Internet use, their experience and degree of so called, Net-generation syndrome, Internet addiction disorder, changes in social and familial life caused by Internet use, and exposure to pornographic materials. The results show that 95.9 % of at-risk children in Husan own a computer, 60.9 % of those computers being Pentium Ⅲ. A majority of the children (74.9 %) are connected to Internet at a high-speed, using such devices as LAN, ADSL or cables. About seventy-six percent of the children have used a PC and Internet less than two years. In other words, a majority of them have not used those for a long period of time. The main results of the research are summarized in the following: There is a significant difference among at-risk children in terms of experiences in computer and Internet use according to their grade levels. There is a gender difference in the amount of time spent on computer and Internet. Boys spend more time every week on computer and Internet than girls do. There is a significant difference in the pattern of computer and Internet use, according to the type of their risk, and grade level. The so-called 'Net Generation Syndrome' is not serious in this group. A majority of the at-risk children think that Internet is more interesting than TV. They hardly shop on Internet, and they don think the advertisements on Internet are a serious problem. Also, unlike many people assumptions, their desire to communicate through on-line chatting was very low. They do not tend to buy computer game programs, and Internet Addiction Disorder was not pronounced among them. The at-risk children rarely had an exposure to pornographic materials in the cyber space. However, the exposure was more frequent for institutionalized children than children in low-income families. These results point to a need for a policy to improve the welfare of at-risk children and guarantee their right to information.

  • Brain-Machine Interfaces(BMI) are interfaces that control machines by decoding brainwaves, which are electrical signals generated from neural activities. Although BMIs can be applied in various fields, their widespread usage is hindered by the low portability of the hardware required for brainwave measurement and decoding. To address this issue, previous research proposed a brain-machine interface system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) using cloud computing. In this study, we developed and tested an application that uses brainwaves to control the Pong game, demonstrating the real-time usability of the system. The results showed that users of the proposed BMI achieved scores comparable to optimal control artificial intelligence in real-time Pong game matches. Thus, this research suggests that IoT-based brain-machine interfaces can be utilized in a variety of real-time applications in everyday life.

  • The cooperative communication systems using MIMO(multiple input multiple-output) relay are known as one of the most promising techniques to improve the performance and coverage of wireless communication systems. In this paper, we propose the cooperative communication systems using the relay with multi-antennas and DSTC(distributed space time coding) for decode-and-forward protocol. As using DSTC for DF(decode-and-forward), we can minimize the risk of error propagation at the wireless system using relay system. Also, the MIMO channel cab be formed by multi-antenna and DSTC at the MS(mobile station)-RS(relay station) and at the RS-BS(base station). Therefore, obtaining truly constructive the MIMO diversity and cooperative diversity gain from the proposed approach, the performance of system can be more improved than one of conventional system (relay with single antenna, no relay). The improvement in bit error rate is investigated through numerical analysis of the cooperative communication system with the proposed approach.

  • This study is to examine how middle and high school students vary in terms of good and bad usage of online games and how these factors have varying effects on their use of the internet as a whole. My focus is to study their behavioral patterns individually while playing internet-based online games. The results are as follows: First, 260 out of 390 subjects used the internet. Male students who are high school students with siblings, or preschool time game users were revealed to play online games more often rather than female students who are middle school students with no siblings, or non-preschool time game users. Secondly, the analysis of differences of good and bad usage of online games revealed that there is a significant correlation between gender and beginning age. Lastly, a thorough analysis of the average difference in terms of following the online game shutdown found that there is no significant correlation among the sub-groups. However, an analysis of the difference of the problematic game usage has shown that there is a significant difference in the heavy user group. This findings means that the students who don't follow the online game shutdown spend more time than those who do.

  • IEEE 802.11s-based infrastructure Wireless Mesh Networks (iWMNs) are envisaged as a promising solution to provide ubiquitous wireless Internet access. The limited network capacity is a problem mainly caused by the medium contention between mesh users and the mesh access points (MAPs), which gets worst when the mesh clients employ the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). To mitigate this problem, we use wireless network coding (WNC) in the MAPs. The aim of this proposal is to take advantage of the network topology around the MAPs, to alleviate the contention and maximize the use of the network capacity. We evaluate WNC when is used in MAPs. We model the formation of coding opportunities and, using computer simulations, we evaluate the formation of such coding opportunities. The results show that as the users density grows, the coding opportunities increase up to 70%; however, at the same time, the coding delay increments significantly. In order to reduce such delay, we propose to adaptively adjust the time that a packet can wait to catch a coding opportunity in an MAP. We assess the performance of moving-average estimation methods to forecast this adaptive sojourn time. We show that using moving-average estimation methods can significantly decrease the coding delay since they consider the traffic density conditions.

  • Human casualties from fires are increasing worldwide. The majority of human deaths occur during the evacuation process, as occupants panic and are unaware of the location of the fire and evacuation routes. Using an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor and reinforcement learning, we propose a method to find the safest evacuation route by considering the fire location, flame speed, occupant position, and walking conditions. The first step is detecting the fire with IoT-based devices. The second step is identifying the occupant's position via a beacon connected to the occupant's mobile phone. In the third step, the collected information, flame speed, and walking conditions are input into the reinforcement learning model to derive the optimal evacuation route. This study makes it possible to provide the safest evacuation route for individual occupants in real time. This study is expected to reduce human casualties caused by fires.

  • Greenhouse provides opportunities to have big yield effectively and efficiently. However, many resources are required, such as fertigation, a kind of solution of nutrient. Resources supply is essential to cultivate crops. Inadequate supply will hinder plant growth whereas the surplus results in waste. In this paper, we are especially interested in the fertigation supply. Further, excess fertigation leads to drainage which is difficult to purify and threatens the environment. To address this challenge, we aim to predict the desired amount of fertigation. To achieve this objective, we first establish a prototype to record the climate conditions inside a rose greenhouse using Internet of Things sensors. Simultaneously, the desired fertigation amount is obtained with the help of weight scale and historical data of fertigation supply and drainage. Second, a method is proposed to predict the desired fertigation by taking the sensors' data as input, with a time-series model. Extensive experimental results suggest the potential of our objective and method. To be specific, our method achieves an average MAE 0.032 in the validation datasets.
