  • Active queue management (AQM) is a leading congestion control system, which can keep smaller queuing delay, less packet loss with better network utilization and throughput by intentionally dropping the packets at the intermediate hubs in TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) networks. To accelerate the responsiveness of AQM framework, proportional-integral-differential (PID) controllers are utilized. In spite of its simplicity, it can effectively take care of a range of complex problems; however it is a lot complicated to track down optimal PID parameters with conventional procedures. A few new strategies have been grown as of late to adjust the PID controller parameters. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a Squirrel search based PID controller to dynamically find its controller gain parameters for AQM. The controller gain parameters are decided based on minimizing the integrated-absolute error (IAE) in order to ensure less packet loss, high link utilization and a stable queue length in favor of TCP networks.

  • Recently, growing Internet traffic have come to mandate the speed-up of Internet links. Also, emerging real-time services generally require QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees in networks. ATM is considered to be the most promising subnetwork technology to meet these requirements efficiently. In this paper, we first analyze recent protocol standardization activities in IETF and ATM Forum for integrating Internet with ATM. This includes brief reviews of protocols such as IETF's IP/ATM, NHRP, RSVP and IS/ATM, as well as ATM Forum's LAN Emulation and MPOA. We then identify two types of integration methodologies, and suggest a classification of the integration. Our work might be helpful to outlook better the future direction of standardization in this field.

  • In this paper, we examine the problems of the current Internet due to the development of network services and the expansion of network bandwidth. The current Internet has been used for a long time because it is composed of TCP / IP, but fundamental problems such as bandwidth, transmission rate, and security have not been solved. Therefore, the future network must be prepared through continuous investment and maintenance. In order to overcome this problem, we will propose a way to overcome the above problems and upgrade by converting the current Internet Protocol into the next generation network. Currently, many researches on next-generation networks have been conducted, but there are not many studies in Korea, and research on next-generation networks will be a very important task for the future development of the Internet service industry at the national level. In this paper, we propose an advanced internet environment through the advantages of various next generation protocols.

  • In this paper the authors explore the effect of bandwidth sharing to the utility of the customer for the best-effort Internet services and draw a basis for the pricing principle in Internet Protocol networks. Especially, we investigate the behavior of a customer′s utility in case an arbitrary amount of additional bandwidth is allowed to each customer for the elastic traffic, which is the typical example of the non-real time Internet data traffic. After drawing the utility curve, which will be proved to follow the concave curve, we will apply it to the pricing of Internet traffic. Finally, via numerical experiments, we will illustrate the validity and implication of the proposed method.

  • PoC (Push-to-Talk over Cellular) provides one-to-one as well as one-to-many communications with VoIP technology based on SIP over cellular networks. According to above property, PoC is considered as perscrptive technology for public protection for disaster relief networks. For this networks, group communication is the essential function. However, since current standardization process takes into general scenarios account without any consideration for mentioned networks, it have some problems in the point of adaptability. To solve above problem, in this paper, we propose how to reduce the overhead on the PoC server to reduce the transmission delay. Simulation results are shown to evaluate the improved performance.

  • Collecting and managing the sensor information through the Internet is critical to effectively manage and utilize the sensor information. The interworking technique of the sensor network and internet is required to realize the desirable condition for managing and utilizing the sensor information. Among many interworking techniques, the translation technique using the gateway had been widely studied. However, the technique which mounts IP-based Internet protocols directly on the sensor node is getting more attention recently. Particularly, IPv6 is suitable for the communication protocol for the sensor network, because its features, such as abundant address space or address auto-configuration, are well matched with the sensor network. In this paper, we design the tiny UDP/IPv6 protocol functions which are suitable for the sensor network environment, and we implemented the functions with TinyOS based nesC. After we examined the simulation results of by using TOSSIM and TinyViz, we carried out the experimental performance evaluation for the program by mounting the tiny UDP/IPv6 on the sensor node (Mote).

  • In this study, we design an applicable model enabling internet protocol television (IPTV) service providers to use a virtual network (VN) for IPTV service delivery. The model addresses the guaranteed service delivery, cost effectiveness, flexible control, and scalable network infrastructure limitations of backbone or IP overlay-based content networks. There are two major challenges involved in this research: i) The design of an efficient, cost effective, and reliable virtual network topology (VNT) for IPTV service delivery and the handling of a VN allocation failure by infrastructure providers (InPs) and ii) the proper approach to reduce the cost of VNT recontruction and reallocation caused by VNT allocation failure. Therefore, in this study, we design a more reliable virtual network topology for solving a single virtual node, virtual link, or video server failure. We develop a novel optimization objective and an efficient VN construction algorithm for building the proposed topology. In addition, we address the VN allocation failure problem by proposing VNT decomposition and reconstruction algorithms. Various simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed VNT, as well as that of the associated construction, decomposition, and reconstruction algorithms in terms of reliability and efficiency. The simulation results are compared with the findings of existing works, and an improvement in performance is observed.

  • NAT is a very useful IP address translation technique that allows two connected networks using different and incompatible IP address schemes. But it is impractical to use NAT for an application which uses the encrypted IP packet, embedding IP addresses inside of data payloads, to guarantee End-to-End Security such as IPSec. In addition to rewriting the source/destination IP addresses in the packet, NAT must modify IP checksum every time, which could lead to considerable performance decrease of the overall system in the process of the address translation. RSIP is an alternative to solve these disadvantages of NAT and the address shortage problems. Both NAT and RSIP divide networks into inside and outside addressing realms. NAT translates addresses between internal network and external network, but RSIP uses a borrowed external address for outside communications. RSIP server assigns a routable public address to a RSIP client temporarily to communicate with public net-work outside of the private network. In this paper, RSIP gateway for intranet environment is designed and its performance is evaluated. From the results of performance evaluation, we knew that RSIP is operated less sensitive to the data traffic. Also, the experiment shows that RSIP performs better than NAT when the transmission data grows larger.

  • EAP (Extensible authentication protocol) is a sort of general framework for authentication rather than a specific authentication protocol. An important consequence of this is that EAP can accommodate a variety of authentication/key-establishment protocols for different internet access networks possibly integrated to a common IP core network This paper tries a comparative analysis of several specific authentication/key establishment protocols for EAP, and suggest a strategic viewpoint toward the question: which one to un. In addition, we tried to make things clear about an intellectual property right issue with regard to some password-based protocols.
