  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of service and appropriateness of information provided in gastric cancer web sites. Method: The study investigated the status of the web sites retrieved when the keyword "gastric cancer" was searched on seven(7) different Internet portal sites. Among the retrieved information sites, 51 domestic websites, available on June and July 2008, were selected. They were evaluated based on two criteria, quality of service (7 items) and appropriateness of the information (11 items) on a 4-point scale($0{\sim}3$). The analysis of data was done using SPSS 12.0 PC+ program for descriptive statistics and ANOVA tests. Results: Findings revealed that the quality of service provided by the web sites had an average of $1.61{\pm}.55$. The score of information appropriateness was $.79{\pm}.64$. Among the studied websites, only 4(7.8%) scored higher than 22, placing them in the top 30%. Conclusion: This study suggests that most sites do not provide diverse types of gastric cancer-related information and that reliability is important in developing web-based programs related to gastric cancer in order to effectively promote and disseminate health information to the general public.

  • This paper proposes a GA and GDM-based method for removing unnecessary rules and generating relevant rules from the fuzzy rules corresponding to several fuzzy partitions. The aim of proposed method is to find a minimum set of fuzzy rules that can correctly classify all the training patterns. When the fine fuzzy partition is used with conventional methods, the number of fuzzy rules has been enormous and the performance of fuzzy inference system became low. This paper presents the application of GA as a means of finding optimal solutions over fuzzy partitions. In each rule, the antecedent part is made up the membership functions of a fuzzy set, and the consequent part is made up of a real number. The membership functions and the number of fuzzy inference rules are tuned by means of the GA, while the real numbers in the consequent parts of the rules are tuned by means of the gradient descent method. It is shown that the proposed method has improved than the performance of conventional method in formulating and solving a combinatorial optimization problem that has two objectives: to maximize the number of correctly classified patterns and to minimize the number of fuzzy rules.

  • The purpose of this study examined how post-traumatic stress, caused when internet users in web portal or social media are defamed in cyberspace, influence on coping behaviour, through the Theory of Reasoned Action's two major factors: Attitude on behaviour and subjective norm. In so doing, it aims to provide a technical and political solution that would fundamentally prevent future victims in cyberspace. In an effort to examine its research theory, a survey was conducted on people who have had the experience of being defamed in cyberspace. The results showed, first, hypersensual has no significant influence over attitude on behaviour and subjective norm. Second, intrusion has no significant influence over attitude on behaviour and subjective norm. Third, avoidance showed significant influence over attitude on behaviour and subjective norm. Fourth, attitude on behaviour and subjective norm showed significant influence on behaviour. This study has both theoretical and practical significance; Unlike previous studies on cyber defamation with qualitative research method, this study employed quantitative method through theory-based approach. In other words, the researcher did not arbitrarily set variables, but utilized the Theory of Reasoned Action for examination.

  • Gifticon is an innovative new service of SK Marketing & Company. Launched in the end of 2006 for the first time in the world, the mobile gift certificate is in the form of a SMS message that bears a bar code to exchange with real products sent to the intended recipient through internet portal, messenger or/and mobile phones. The service started by connecting individuals (B2C business) and was expanded to the new marketing tools of companies (B2B business). While the business took off with soft progress in the initial year of launch, Gifticon business finally gained its momentum in the growth of sales in its second and third year. Yet, the data showed that the growth of user-base was getting stagnant that the number of users remained flat for the past few months. Moreover, competition from latecomers such as Giftishow from KTF and Heartcon from LG Telecom gets fierce. Particularly in B2B sector where Gifticon has made minimal profit, competitors started aggressive promotional activities, taking away shares from Gifticon. Under these circumstances, team is facing tough strategic decisions for its long-term growth; How can they further grow the business? Should they go after more massive targets for broader user-base? Should they pursue B2B business more aggressively? This case study asks students to come up with solutions for these questions by understanding concepts, theories and models for diffusion of innovations and strategies to overcome a chasm.
