  • This study focused on the media characteristics of internet live broadcasting in the New Media Age. To this end, analyzed the media characteristics of internet live broadcasting through SMCRE models consisting of source, message, channel, receiver, and effect. In addition, considered the unique feedback of internet live broadcasting that prior studies overlooked. It also presented problems with internet live broadcasting and prospects for future development of internet live broadcasting.

  • There is a considerable gap in the level of the Internet access charges among countries because of the history of the Internet use, current status of the Internet infrastructure, the Internet penetration rate, and so on. Low Internet access charge increases the number of the Internet users and the Internet penetration rate, which boosts economic activities. This paper empirically explores the impacts of the internet access charges on economic activities using a cross-country analysis based on data from 76 countries for the year 1998-2001. To this end, several versions of the neoclassical growth models, explicitly including the internet access charges, are estimated with the GDP used for a proxy for economic activities and the level of Internet access charges considered as an input to production. Subject to the appropriate caveats, the results show that the level of the Internet access charges make a significantly negative effect on economic activities. In other words, it is concluded that low Internet access charges of a county increase economic activities and the increased economic activities in turn raise the real income of the county.

  • Progressive mesh representation and generation have become one of the most important issues in network-based computer graphics. However, current researches are mostly focused on triangular mesh models. On the other hand, solid models are widely used in industry and are applied to advanced applications such as product design and virtual assembly. Moreover, as the demand to share and transmit these solid models over the network is emerging, the generation and the transmission of progressive solid models depending on specific engineering needs and purpose are essential. In this paper, we present a Cellular Topology-based approach to generating and transmitting progressive solid models from a feature-based solid model for internet-based design and collaboration. The proposed approach introduces a new scheme for storing and transmitting solid models over the network. The Cellular Topology (CT) approach makes it possible to effectively generate progressive solid models and to efficiently transmit the models over the network with compact model size.

  • New technologies such as the IoT, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence, starting from the Web, mobile, and smart device, enable new business models that did not exist before, and various types of Internet companies based on these business models has been emerged. In this research, we examine the factors that influence the success and failure of Internet companies. To do this, we review the recent studies on business model and examine the variables affecting the success of Internet companies in terms of network effect, user interface, cooperation with actors, creating value for users. Using the five derived variables, we will select 14 Internet companies that succeeded and failed in seven commercial business model categories. We derive decision tree by applying inductive learning based on ID3 algorithm to the analysis result and derive rules that affect success and failure based on derived decision tree. With these rules, we want to present the strategic implications for actors to succeed in Internet companies.

  • The usability of the Internet including WWW (World Wide Web) is dramatically growing in current management environment. These allow decision makers to enhance the productivity of decision making by referring valuable information in the remote sites. This paper presents how WWW can be applied to build distributed and collaborative DSS. Especially, a framework of Internet-based DSS is delineated, and then an idea of representing and managing models in the Internet-based DSS is suggested.

  • XML has been established as a de facto standard for representing and exchanging documents, and has been widely used as a logical data model. Using XML as a logical database model, it requires a conceptual model for the semantics that XML has. However, the existing conceptual models, such as Entity Relationship models and UML, have been extended their concepts to express the specific characteristics of XML, but so far, there are no standard models. This paper compares the characteristics of the typical model of conceptual model of XML by Extended Entity Relationship model from the perspective of database field. For this, we propose the requirements that must be met for XML, and on the basis of these requirements, the approaches of each model are compared.

  • Unsupervised methods for image segmentation are recently drawing attention because most images do not have labels or tags. A topic model is such an unsupervised probabilistic method that captures latent aspects of data, where each latent aspect, or a topic, is associated with one homogeneous region. The results of topic models, however, usually have noises, which decreases the overall segmentation performance. In this paper, to improve the performance of image segmentation using topic models, we propose two topic masks applicable to topic assignments of homogeneous regions obtained from topic models. The topic masks capture the noises among the assigned topic assignments or topic labels, and remove the noises by replacements, just like image masks for pixels. However, as the nature of topic assignments is different from image pixels, the topic masks have properties that are different from the existing image masks for pixels. There are two contributions of this paper. First, the topic masks can be used to reduce the noises of topic assignments obtained from topic models for image segmentation tasks. Second, we test the effectiveness of the topic masks by applying them to segmented images obtained from the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model and the Spatial Latent Dirichlet Allocation model upon the MSRC image dataset. The empirical results show that one of the masks successfully reduces the topic noises.

  • Effective monitoring and testing during each step are essential for document verification in research and development (R&D) projects. In software development, proper testing is required to verify it carefully and constantly because of the invisibility features of software. However, not enough studies on test processes for R&D projects have been done. Thus, in this paper, we introduce a Test Maturity Model integration (TMMi)-based software field R&D test process that offers five integrity levels and makes the process compatible for different types of projects. The Software & Systems Process Engineering Metamodel (SPEM) is used widely in the software process-modeling context, but it lacks built-in enactment capabilities, so there is no tool or process engine that enables one to execute the process models described in SPEM. Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)-based workflow engines can be a solution for process execution, but process models described in SPEM need to be converted to BPMN models. Thus, we propose an approach to support enactment of SPEM-based process models by converting them into business processes. We show the effectiveness of our approach through converting software R&D test processes specified in SPEM in a case study.

  • Most studies of software fault prediction have been about supervised learning models that use only labeled training data. Although supervised learning usually shows high prediction performance, most development groups do not have sufficient labeled data. Unsupervised learning models that use only unlabeled data for training are difficult to build and show poor performance. Semi-supervised learning models that use both labeled data and unlabeled data can solve these problems. Self-training technique requires the fewest assumptions and constraints among semi-supervised techniques. In this paper, we implemented several models using self-training algorithms and evaluated them using Accuracy and AUC. As a result, YATSI showed the best performance.
