  • This paper aims to build a home security system based on IoT to monitor a home on a mobile phone. The system consists of data gathering sensors, camera, gateway and Xively platform. The Raspberry Pi collects data from the three sensors and sends the data to Xively, and sends the video stream of home to a client in a smart phone through a internet. The servers are composed of Xively, socket server in Raspberry Pi and E-mail server in Google. The proposed system transmits e-mail, text message, and video stream when there are motion, fire, and gas leakage, and can control the gas valve through Raspberry Pi. The experimental results show that a user gets 'emergency E-mail' and text message and watches the video stream of the home through WIFI or LTE on a smart phone.

  • IP and SIP public broadcasting systems developed in Korea and abroad are developed in a Windows or Linux server environments and are installed in a server-rack structure, have high power consumption, and are difficult to remotely respond to system failures. In this paper, IoT platform is designed to connect IoT device and gateway to IoT service server by using internet service structure. We also designed a server based on embedded OS that can provide a variety of public safety management services according to the order of the server with built-in call processing and broadcasting function that can handle emergency calls and emergency broadcasts in public places using this structure. This server is interoperable with a variety of SIP-based call and broadcast devices that support the standard SIP and can be integrated with an in-house phone and on-premises system.

  • Current generation embedded systems are built around only a small number of SOCs, which are again based on general-purpose embedded micro-processors, such as ARM and MIPS. These RISC-based processors are not, however, designed for specific functions such as networking and multimedia processing, whose importances have increased dramatically in recent years. Network devices for small business and home networks, are especially dependent upon such SOCs based on general processors. Except for PHY and MAC layer functions, which are built with hardware, all the network functions are processed by the embedded micro-processor. Enabling technologies such as VDSL and FTTH promise Internet access with a much higher speed, while at the same time explore the limitations of general purpose microprocessors. In this paper we design a network processor, embed it into an SOC for Home gateway, evaluate the performance rigorously, and gauge a possibility for commercialization.

  • In this paper, we present a high-level design methodology applied on a network system-on-a-chip(SOC) using SystemC. The main target of our approach is to get optimum performance parameters for high network address translation(NAT) throughput. The Fast Ethernet media access controller(MAC) and its direct memory access(DMA) controller are modeled with SystemC in transaction level. They are calibrated through the cycle-based measurement of the operation of the real Verilog register transfer language(RTL). The NAT throughput of the model is within $\pm$10% error compared to the output of the real evaluation board. Simulation speed of the model is more than 100 times laster than the RTL. The validated models are used for intensive architecture exploration to find the performance bottleneck in the NAT router.

  • Since the existing protocols separated mobility management part and routing protocol part in their design and used a flooding, they suffer from the high control overhead, thereby limiting performance. In this paper, we use a tree-based mobility management method and present a simple and efficient routing protocol that exploits the topology information which is built additionally through mobility management. Thus, the mobility management and the routing protocol closely cooperate to optimize control overhead. Furthermore, we use a progressive path discovery method to alleviate traffic congestion around IG and a unicast-based broadcast method to increase the reliability of message delivery and to judge link validity promptly. The proposed protocol reduces control overhead greatly and works in a stable manner even with the large number of nodes and high mobility. This was proven by comparing with the AODV protocol that employs the hybrid mobility management protocol.

  • This paper constructs a real-time monitoring system that can identify the individual positions of infants and their proximity to other infants using an Internet of Things (IoT)-based nameplate. The system consists of a precision location tracking module, a data transmission system for calculating gateway location information, a service platform server, and a data analysis processing module considering the development of infants and young children. The purpose of this study is to extract information about how infants interact with each other. The information gathered through this system can be used as important information to improve the peer relations of all infants and toddlers, from neglected infants to infants with no social development problems, to more popular infants. It is possible, based on the proximity information between infants and toddlers, that the teacher can identify positive interactions or negative interactions, and can educate infants on how to improve their peer relationships. These results can be used for consultation with parents, and the information collected through this system can be used as a database to establish a system for improving the relationships between infants and toddlers.

  • Due to increase of user requirement for various traffics and the advance of network technology, each distinct network has converge into FMC(Fixed Mobile Convergence) networks. However, we need to research the performance analysis of VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) in the FMC network to provide QoE for the voice user of FMC network. Therefore, this paper introduces the scenario which is the situation of voice quality degradation when a user uses VoIP to communicate with other users in the FMC network. Especially, this paper presents scenario in terms of the component of the network and finds the improvement point of voice quality. In the simulation results, three improvement points of voice quality are found as following: voice quality degradation by packet loss in the physical layer of the HSDPA network, by utilizing GGSN without QoS parameter mapping mechanism which is gateway between 3GPP and IP backbone, and by using non-QoS AP in the WLAN network.

  • Although timber structures have been extensively used in underground temporary supporting system, their actual performance is poorly understood, resulting in potentially conservative and over-engineered design. In this paper, a novel wireless sensor technology, SmartPlank, is introduced to monitor the field performance of timber structures during underground construction. It consists of a wooden beam equipped with a streamlined wireless sensor node, two thin foil strain gauges and two temperature sensors, which enables to measure the strain and temperature at two sides of the beam, and to transmit this information in real-time over an IPv6 (6LowPan) multi-hop wireless mesh network and Internet. Four SmartPlanks were deployed at the London Underground's Tottenham Court Road (TCR) station redevelopment site during the Stair 14 excavation, together with seven relay nodes and a gateway. The monitoring started from August 2013, and will last for one and a half years until the Central Line possession in 2015. This paper reports both the short-term and long-term performances of the monitored timber structures. The grouting effect on the short-term performance of timber structures is highlighted; the grout injection process creates a large downward pressure on the top surface of the SmartPlank. The short and long term earth pressures applied to the monitored structures are estimated from the measured strains, and the estimated values are compared to the design loads.

  • This paper reviews the Parlay X and proposes SIP multimedia session control mechanism which is able to be implemented over IMS using Extended Call Control APIs of Parlay X. Parlay X is one of the industrial standards of Open API in the telecommunication to open network resources and capabilities to third party service providers. In this paper, SIP session control mechanism is described by depicting call flows of basic and essential session handling methods including session initiation, transfer, restoration, and termination. We also show how easy Parlay X Extended Call Control APIs can be used for the purpose of complicated calls handling in the IT applications. To verify feasibility of the blended services based on convergence of telecommunication and internet with regard to performance, we accomplish experimental performance of Extended Call Control APIs from IT application through open service gateway. We show Open API could be applied to next generation network based on IMS without serious degradation of the network performance.

  • Over the last couple of years, traditional VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc NETwork) evolved into VANET-based clouds. From the VANET standpoint, applications became richer by virtue of the boom in automotive telematics and infotainment technologies. Nevertheless, the research community and industries are concerned about the under-utilization of rich computation, communication, and storage resources in middle and high-end vehicles. This phenomenon became the driving force for the birth of VANET-based clouds. In this paper, we envision a novel application layer of VANET-based clouds based on the cooperation of the moving cars on the road, called CaaS (Cooperation as a Service). CaaS is divided into TIaaS (Traffic Information as a Service), WaaS (Warning as a Service), and IfaaS (Infotainment as a Service). Note, however, that this work focuses only on TIaaS and WaaS. TIaaS provides vehicular nodes, more precisely subscribers, with the fine-grained traffic information constructed by CDM (Cloud Decision Module) as a result of the cooperation of the vehicles on the roads in the form of mobility vectors. On the other hand, WaaS provides subscribers with potential warning messages in case of hazard situations on the road. Communication between the cloud infrastructure and the vehicles is done through GTs (Gateway Terminals), whereas GTs are physically realized through RSUs (Road-Side Units) and vehicles with 4G Internet access. These GTs forward the coarse-grained cooperation from vehicles to cloud and fine-grained traffic information and warnings from cloud to vehicles (subscribers) in a secure, privacy-aware fashion. In our proposed scheme, privacy is conditionally preserved wherein the location and the identity of the cooperators are preserved by leveraging the modified location-based encryption and, in case of any dispute, the node is subject to revocation. To the best of our knowledge, our proposed scheme is the first effort to offshore the extended traffic view construction function and warning messages dissemination function to the cloud.
