  • Currently, web syndication is usually utilized in desktop environments, but not considering mobile environments. In this paper, we focus on the extension of the desktop based web syndication to the mobile internet. Simply adapting the desktop based web syndication to mobile devices can cause high wireless internet communication cost. We propose PMS(Proxy-based Mobile Syndication) model which achieves low cost mobile syndication. In the PMS model, MWProxy is defined as a proxy server between mobile devices and web sites. It can reduce the communication cost by peeking up modified items from the web sites and reducing the channel size. In this paper, we designed and implemented the PMS system in a mobile phone and evaluated the performance of the PMS system by conducting real experiments using mobile emulators.

Web vendors must act purposefully to overcome consumer perceptions of uncertainty and risk by building trust-both in their own web sites and in the broader Internet environments. Trust makes consumers comfortable by sharing personal information making purchases, and acting on web vendor advice-behaviors essential to wide-spread adoption of e-commerce. Understanding the nature and antecedents of trust is, therefore, a major issue for both Internet researchers and practitioners. • With the increasing number and variety of internet users as well as the development of internet technology, web contents have been taking a more comprehensive, integrated, and practical form. This change has brought to our attention the importance of the information architecture and menu design, both of which are required for the users to navigate vast amount of data promptly, correctly and easily for effective communication in the web sites. In this study, web sites were categorized by the service levels provided to the users, and sampling was performed accordingly. Then, information architecture, the layout and the presentation of the menu design were analyzed. The result of the analysis show that there are distinguishable characteristics in how the menus were expressed and designed, and that these characteristics reflect the users' characteristics in the web interface menu design. With the result of this study, we present a guideline for information architecture and web interface menu design, which reflects user characteristics thereby strengthening usability. Using this guideline, we expect the development of web interface design which should support more efficient communication on the web.

  • Although the Internet has been a important communication tool in modem societies, researchers did not pay attention to its' positive impacts on individual's psychological process. The Internet provides users with a unique environment such as visual isolation, non face-to-face communication, and easiness to escape from social influences. This environment enables people to take free action according to their personality and disclose themselves. From the uses and gratification perspective, the current research reveals that individuals with high extraversion are inclined to maintain social networking sites and those with high openness participate in web communities. The findings indicate that individuals' social use of the internet may reflect their personality. This study, also, reveals that controlling the big five personality dimensions, the amount of self-disclosure through ones' social networking site is positively related with subjective happiness. This finding suggests that like confession behaviors in religious or curing facilities, people can use the Internet as a therapeutic or a preventative method for promoting their well-being. Theoretical contributions and practical implications are discussed.
