As the high-speed internet access market steadily nears its maturity phase, growth is quickly tapering off and competition, intensifying. As a result telecommunications companies are at present faced with the urgent need to evolve away from a growth model based on continuous acquisition of new subscribers. The recent convergence of telecommunication and broadcasting has come about precisely at this transitional period in the telecommunications market, and is perceived by the industry both as a new business opportunity and as a threat. TV-based VOD(Video on Demand), for one, is able to attract new customers desiring multimedia services of superior quality and to lock-in existing customers. Meanwhile, the latest evolution in network development is brightening the market prospect for TV-based VOD. The service has now hit the market, deployed over VDSL networks - a next-generation high-speed internet - and advanced cable modem networks, delivering high-definition DVD-quality videos. TV-based VOD is a service whose deployment is closely linked to the evolution of subscriber networks. According to the forecast produced by the present study, based on the forecast on the post-ADSL market and a survey conducted on VOD, as post-ADSL subscribers increase from 1.53 million in 2003 to 4.44 million in 2004, and 9.87 million in 2006, the percentage of post-ADSL subscribers with intention to also subscribe to a VOD service is expected to rise from 16% to 34% in 2006. Accordingly, VOD subscribers are estimated to increase from 0.24 million in 2003 to 0.98 million in 2004 and to 3.35 million in 2006.

본 논문에서는 FLV를 적용한 차세대 인터넷 방송 솔루션 EZCAST를 설계 및 구현하였다. 현장에서 방송중인 HD급 영상을 실시간으로 압축하여, 인터넷 생방송은 물론 VOD 서비스가 가능한 시스템으로 온라인을 통해 인터넷 LIVE 방송 및 VOD 서비스 그리고 UCC 서비스를 손쉽게 운영할 수 있도록 지원하는 솔루션이다. 카메라 및 VOD 영상을 H264 코덱을 사용하여 실시간으로 압축하여 MPEC4, WMV등의 영상을 인터넷 및 스마트폰에 실시간 스트리밍으로 지원하는 시스템으로 VOD 저장, Web 및 스마트폰을 이용한 생방송 송출이 실시간으로 가능하다.

The paper presents a novel embedded multifunctional media sever (EMMS) for mobile devices to receive various media programs. Being different from other contemporary system research, the paper mainly studies how to design a reception solution for terrestrial digital television (DTV) on mobile devices and how to enable mobile devices can receive DTV program, enjoy video-on-demand (VOD), achieve video surveillance and relay Internet video program via local Wi-Fi simultaneously. In the system design, we integrate broadcasting-terrestrial DTV tuner, streaming media re-transmission system, VOD disk, video camera and access interface to the Internet into EMMS, which can either receive terrestrial DTV radio signals and demodulate out digital transport stream (TS), or can read streaming media bit-stream from VOD disk, surveillance camera or access interface to the Internet. The experimental results show the proposed system is stable and quality-efficient. Comparing with the other systems, the proposed system has the least packet loss rate and response time.

This paper presents implementation of client-based VOD service using multicast delivery, Conventional system provide server-based system in multicast delivery but implemented system provides on-demand client-based multicast system. The Multicast Agent Scheduler aggregates clients' request and it generate multicast group addresses and port numbers according to requested video items and service request time. Then it transmits immediately multicast address to VOD server and client who request service. And then VOD server transmits requested streams with a multicast group address and the client joins the group automatically. The Multicast Agent Scheduler assigns the same multicast group address when other clients request an identical video within the same scheduling duration. The proposed system can reduce load of server and support many clients at the same time and applies it to WMT(window media technology) of Microsoft.

As the real time multimedia data service has become available due to the rapid progress of computer and Internet technology, the users can enjoy the newly developed service, which is called Video On-Dem-and(VOD). However, most of service providers have not paid their attention much on the software for various service modes on VOD, but they are only concentrating un the hardware to provide with the high resolution video display. Therefore, the service providers are recently to pay more attention on the software to cope with the various demands of users than hardware. So this paper has designed and implemented the VOD service system for those demands. Since the VOD service system suggested by this paper enable off-line search functions through E-mail, the users can possibly get the necessary information from off-line Search without connecting to the server while the current VOD service can prominently help users to save the time and effort to sea고 and select the Video contents by using periodical current awareness service supported by PUSH technology and user oriented information booking and feedback service supported by SDI service.

With the discontinuation of analog broadcasting in 2012, the cable broadcasters are investing in the conversion to DCATV (Digital Cable TV). DCATV is providing various broadcast of high quality to audiences through paid broadcasting called PPV (Pay Per View). Such services are using various kinds of CASs (Conditional Access System) in order to verify the viewing rights of subscriber. In addition, to respond to the fast changing environment of digital broadcast, not only simple digitalization of broadcast but also services such as PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and VOD (Video On Demand) are provided to subscribers. Because these additional services have many difficult areas to cover with traditional CAS alone, a new plan has become necessary. With the improvement of related regulations in 2008, the test service of IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) which is a broadcast service through the internet started. Because like DCATV, IPTV also sets the real time broadcast and the VOD service as the basic services, the use of appropriate CAS is required. In this study, the CASs for DCATV and IPTV undergo comparative analysis, and the development direction which will benefit both subscribers and broadcasting companies is suggested.

A typical VOD service allows that a number of remote clients playback a desired video from a large collection of videos stored in one or more video servers. The main bottleneck for a VOD service is the network bandwidth connecting to the VOD server to the client due to the high bandwidth requirements. Many previous researches have shown that VOD server can be greatly improved through the use of multicast, broadcast, or P2P scheme. Broadcast is one of the most efficient techniques because it can transmit a stream to many users without additional network bandwidth. But the broadcast has long latency time. In order to overcome the drawback, in this paper, we propose P2Prefix broadcast scheme that can solve the service latency time, which is the problem of broadcast scheme, by using P2P caching as well as minimizing the client buffer requirement.

In implementing real time video on demand(VOD), the increase of user on internet causes a network traffic congestion. In this paper, we programmed a CGI able to login in VOD home for limiting the number of user in solving the problem, and also applied and adaptive multimedia synchronization technique for controlling video and audio data in a network. In addition, a real time multimedia player was designed and implemented in a personal computer operating at Window95/98/NT.

본 논문에서는 환경에서 VOD(Video On Demand) 서비스를 위한 적응적 멀티미디어 동기화 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 방식은 망의 상태에 따른 패킷 손실과 지연에 대해서 각각 적응적으로 서버의 전송률과 클라이언트의 재생예정시간을 조절한다. 그리고 망에서 발생하는 손실뿐만 아니라, 클라이언트의 재생 처리능력을 동시에 고려한 선택적 픽처 폐기를 통하여 서버의 전송률을 조절한다. 성능 평가를 통해 제안된 방식이 기존 방식보다 더 나은 서비스 품질을 제공함을 알 수 있었다.

차세대 인터넷 서버는 인터넷을 통하여 여러 사용자에게 HDTV 급 고품질 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공하고자 개발된 시스템이며, 이를 위하여 디스크 연결 및 네트워크 기능을 정합 시킨 특화된 NS 카드를 개발하였다. Contents Container 파일 시스템은 NS 카드 전용으로 개발된 멀티미디어 파일 시스템이며, 본 논문에서는 Contents Container 파일 시스템에 대한 개발 내용을 기술하고, 개발 시스템의 장단점을 파악하고자 EXT3 파일 시스템과 비교 분석하였다.
