Consumer Purchasing Decisions on Sustainable Products in Advertising: The Interplay of Message Appeals and Agency-Communion Orientations

  • Both message appeals and individual characteristics can influence the effectiveness of sustainable product promotions. Applying the agency-communion orientation to the advertising message research context, this study examined the interplay between message appeals and agency-communication orientations in impacting purchase intentions. The findings from a 2 (message appeal: self-interest vs. public-interest message) × 2 (motivational orientation: agency vs. communion) experiment revealed a communion-over-agency effect on consumer purchasing decisions for public-interest message appeals. In the self-interest message condition, we found no statistically significant difference in impact between agency and communion on purchase intentions. In short, we contribute to advertising effectiveness research by showing that agency-communion orientations moderate the effect of message appeals. We also explain the practical implications of these findings for effective sustainable communication in advertisements based on individuals' motivational orientations.

  • The paper is basically designed to investigate any existence of co-movement among foreign exchange market, goods market, and monetary market implemented by relative PPP and interest rate parity. And, rational expectation and GARCH-M model are employed for an empirical application. The result revealed that since the co-movement among the markets is hardly found, an efficiency of foreign exchange market is independent from any shocks from the goods market and the monetary market. Whereas, the exchange rate is strongly effected by a real interest rate parity. To this end, the real interest rate should be a key policy instrument to stabilize the foreign exchange market.

Will Middle-Aged Korean Women Buy Jeans Again?

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate jean consumption among middle-aged Korean women and the characteristics of consumers as potential jean consumers. The data were collected from the survey of 238 Korean women aged 45 to 64 years old. The respondents prefer outlet store to other retail outlets and wear jeans mainly for travel, grocery shopping, and outing. The main reason for not wearing jeans is body change, which leads to poor fit in abdomen and waist area. The sample was clustered into two groups based on interest in jeans: high-interest and low-interest group. From the examination of group differences, the high-interest group rated conformity/brand reputation, scarcity, and attractiveness of appearance significantly higher compared to the low-interest group among the five clothing benefits pursued. No difference was found in obesity and body satisfaction. Group differences were found in recent purchase, price, number of jeans owned, and frequency of wearing jeans. The results suggest the characteristics of the potential jean market among middle-aged women in Korea. Implications are discussed.

A Research on the Necessity of Online Chapel Courses in Korea

  • The objective of this study was to determine the status of current chapel courses and analyze the necessity of online chapel courses. Students' interest, failure experience, perceived problems, and advantages of current chapel courses were examined. Students' preference, intention of sincerity, and perceived effectiveness of online chapel courses were also determined. Finally, hypothesis tests for the differences of students' interest, failure experience, perceived problems and advantages of current chapel courses, preference, intention of sincerity, and perceived effectiveness of online chapel courses according to gender, school year grade, major of study, and religion were performed. Students' low interest in chapel courses was verified. Even Christian students' interest was below 3 points out of 5-point Likert scale. However, students whose religion was not Christianity felt more coercion and had less interest in chapel courses. They wanted virtualization of chapel courses more. They had more willingness to faithful participation in online chapel courses. This research suggests that virtualization of chapel courses as a solution to chapel resistance is dependent on student's characteristics such as religion, major field of study, and mindset.

Interest based-participation requiring accountability in greening

  • The Republic of Korea (ROK) has had a successful experience in greening its land because of strong state policy and public participation. This paper aims to analyze the interest positions, participation, and accountability of multiple actors in the process of greening movements in the ROK. These movements were divided into two phases: forest rehabilitation (1973-1997) and urban greening (1998-2017). During the first phase, farmers caused deforestation by slash-and-burn farming and illegal logging, and governmental agencies acted as helpers controlled the farmers' deforestation activities. During the second phase, government agencies and enterprises caused deforestation with urban development projects, including construction of housings and roads. Multiple actors including citizens, NGOs, and enterprises helped urban greening through campaigns, donations, and monitoring. As a result, managing interest positions is significant to motivate multiple actors to participate in the greening movement. Participation with clear accountability is meaningful for successful greening. Therefore interest-based participation requiring accountability contributes to greening. This phenomenon indicates interconnection for interest positions, participation and accountability should be considered in designing greening policies.

A Study on the Effect of Depression on the Appearance of Elderly Women (노년기 여성의 우울정도가 외모에 미치는 영향 : 진주지역을 대상으로)

  • The purpose of this study were to investigate the differences in depression, appearance interest, and appearance adornment according to demographic variables, and how to examine degree of make-up and visit to a beauty shop was influenced by depression, and demographic variables. Subjects were 117 elderly women in their 60's to 70's in Jinju, Korea. There was a significant difference in appearance interest according to age. There were significant differences in appearance interest, makeup, and visit to a beauty shop according to education. That is, the high level group of education had a high degree of makeup, and a high interest in appearance than the low level group. There was a difference in appearance interest and makeup according to healthy condition. That is, the good healthy group had a high interest of appearance, and the high degree of makeup than the poor healthy group. The degree of makeup had an effect on appearance interest and education($R^2=.505$). The visit to a beauty shop had an effect depression(-), yes or no of a mate, and allowance($R^2=.192$).

  • According to Sun Tzu's Art of War, "if you know yourself and your enemy you win hundred battles out of a hundred." This is also apply for international business field. International business negotiation will not be failed if you know counter party's behavior and understand their culture and customs. The cooperative approach is known as interest-based negotiation. Interest-based negotiation is particularly effective in a global business characterized by diversity. We often need to reach agreement with people who are different from us - culturally, ethnically, or economically. If we cannot get beyond the differences, they can create obstacles to agreement. To do this, we need to focus on the interests of the parties instead of on the parties' differences. Every culture has their own distinctive feature that the people from outside seems not understand but they must have the optimistic attitude which complies with. The purpose of this paper, from the point of view above, is to examine cultural differences that could make sure comparative advantage in business negotiation of the enterprises who eager to expand their market or to invest internationally. This paper especially shows cultural deferences among Korea, China and Japan in terms of business we must consider.

The Effectiveness of Foreign Exchange Intervention: Empirical Evidence from Vietnam

  • This study uses monthly data from January 2009 to December 2020 to examine the effectiveness of foreign currency intervention and its influence on monetary policy in Vietnam using a Hierarchical Bayesian VAR model. The findings suggest that foreign exchange intervention has little influence on the exchange rate level or exports, but it can significantly minimize exchange rate volatility. As a result, we can demonstrate that the claim that Vietnam is a currency manipulator is false. As well, the forecast error variance decomposition results reveal that interest rate differentials mainly determine the exchange rate level instead of foreign exchange intervention. Moreover, the findings suggest that foreign exchange intervention is not effectively sterilized in Vietnam. Inflation is caused by an increase in international reserves, which leads to an expansion of the money supply and a decrease in interest rates. Although the impact of foreign exchange intervention grows in tandem with the growth of international reserves, if the sterilizing capacity does not improve, rising foreign exchange intervention will instead result in inflation. Finally, we use a rolling window approach to examine the time-varying effect of foreign exchange intervention.

Fashion Styling Educational Program Development Junghee Yang for Female Marriage Immigrant (여성결혼이민자를 위한 패션 스타일링 교육 프로그램 개발)

  • This study is intended to develop a fashion styling training program for female international marriage immigrants. To collect basic data for program development, a total of ten female international marriage immigrants living in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, were interviewed on relevant subjects, such as clothing life and their interest in fashion and fashion training programs. According to the interviews, they prefer Korean fashions, have difficulty purchasing and coordinating clothes while living in Korea, and felt that others were staring at them because of their appearance and fashion styles. For the question about interest in fashion, most respondents answered that they have great interest in fashion and managing their appearance. For the question about the need for a training program in fashion styling for female international marriage immigrants, most respondents answered that it is necessary, and most respondents also answered that they would participate in such a program if it were available. The contents of the training program for fashion styling for female international marriage immigrants was composed of the following sections: Understanding of Fashion Styling, Variety of Fashion Styling, and Fashion Styling Practice. The section on the understanding of fashion styling is composed of the concept of fashion styling and the elements of fashion styling. The section on variety in fashion styling is composed of styling based on fashion image, face type, body type, and TPO. The section on fashion styling practice is composed of the practice of fashion styling on an actual person based on the knowledge obtained through the program.

The Impacts of Chinese Student's Leaning Flow and Leaning Interest on Person-Organizational Fit: Centered on the modulating effect of self-efficacy (중국유학생의 학습몰입 및 학습흥미가 개인-조직적합성에 미치는 영향 -자기효능감의 조절효과를 중심으로-)

  • With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution modern society demands global convergence talent with expertise. The purpose of this study is to suggest the Person-organizational Fit can be enhanced only when university institutions enhance the learning flow and learning interest of Chinese students. Only when the suitability of Chinese students and Univ. is good will it be of great help to the educational performance and administrative management of international students, and the learning atmosphere and university image can be promoted. However, international students with excessive self-efficacy may have a negative effect on Person-organizational Fit to making it difficult to educate and manage students. On the other hand, for international students with low self-efficacy, the higher the immersion in learning, the higher the individual-organization (Univ) suitability.
