2006년 해사노동협약에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006)

  • 2006년 2월 23일 스위스 제네바에서 국제노동기구의 총회에서 해사노동협약을 채택하였으며 이 협약은 전문과 본문, 규칙, 코드 A 및 코드 B의 4 단계로 구성되어 있다. 따라서 향후 이 협약의 발효에 대비하여 선원법 등 관련 법령의 개정이 필요하며 해사노동증서의 발급 및 해사노동적합선언서의 준비와 관련한 검사 기관의 지정 및 관계자의 교육 등에 관한 법령이 제정되어야 할 것이다.

  • 본 연구는 '해운선사 안전관리 평가지표 개발에 관한 연구'의 후속연구로서 선행연구에서 도출한 '안전관리 평가지표'의 '안전가점' 지수에 해당하는 안전경영 지표의 평가항목을 개발하고, 적정성을 평가하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 해상화물운송사업장에서 일하는 안전관리 담당자를 대상으로 의견을 수렴하여 안전경영 지표별 11개의 평가항목을 개발하였다. 식별된 11개 평가항목에 대한 적정성 검토를 위해 설문조사를 실시하고, 사업형태별(내항해상화물운송, 외항해상화물운송), 사업규모별(보유선박수)로 응답자의 적정성 인식의 차이를 통계적 기법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 평가항목에 대한 적정성 인식의 차이는 사업형태와는 무관하였다. 그러나 사업규모에 따라서는 소(小) 중(中) 대(大) 3개의 그룹 간 평가항목의 적정성에 인식의 차이가 존재했다. 따라서 향후 안전경영 지표를 활용하여 선사를 평가할 경우, 사업형태별로 동일하게 평가하되 사업규모별로는 보유선박수에 따라 그룹화하여 평가하는 것이 타당하다는 결론을 얻었다.

해운환경 변화에 따른 해기사 교육의 개선책 (A Study on Improvement Measures for Mariner's Education and Training with Changes of International Maritime Environment)

  • As the education of maritime college has a characteristics of seafaring professional institutions, the potential benefit following from the employment of seafarers would put substantial impact on it. The socio-economic position of seafaring occupations has been deteriorated considerably with changes of ship's auto-mation, specialisation and low cost operation management of shipping companies through severe internatio-nal competitions. The quality and number of applicants for the maritime college has declined and most students have no hopes for the study of seafaring subjects which followed bewildering in their college days. However, the demands for seafarers are fairly large from the viewpoint of national maritime industry. The maritime institutions should not only meet these demands but also revitalise students by reforming the educational contents. The contents should be influenced by the social approach to educational needs in particular maritime shore-oriented subjects. The maritime education is no more restricted to the sea, it covers the land based world of the maritime industry as well. The new contents will lead the maritime educated students to the shore-based occupa-tions after finishing their seafaring if they want to. This may not only make ways to the maritime educa-tion fruitable, but also the students have a zeal and hope for the subjects taught.

GFRP 낚시어선의 선체구조 적층판 분석과 경량화 설계 (Light-weight Optimum Design of Laminate Structures of a GFRP Fishing Vessel)

  • Approximately 90,000 ships are registered in South Korea, and about 80,000 of these ships are used in domestic shipping. Among these, 84% are small ships, such as a fishing vessels that weigh less than 20 tons and are made mostly of an FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics). When this fact is taken into account, the greenhouse gas emissions that are released per ton of a composite vessel are sizeable. In this study, the laminated structures of an FRP fishing vessel, many of which currently are being built in Korea, were analyzed by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and international design rules, and the structures of the hulls are lightweight with optimum glass fiber mass content as determined by the laminate weight minimization algorithm. As a result, it was confirmed that the laminations of the vessels in accordance with the Korean rule could have 6.4% to approximately 11% more design margin compared to the requirements of ISO and other international rules. And the case study of the application of the laminate weight minimization algorithm showed the possibility of reducing the weight of the hull bottom plating by as much as about 19.32% and by as much as about 18.06% in the overall structure.

Does Partner Volatility Have Firm Value Relevance? An Empirical Analysis of Strategic Alliances

  • Purpose - Alliance members have constantly revised market strategies over time by withdrawing membership from a current alliance, joining another alliance, or constructing a new alliance. From the perspective of the signaling effect, the purpose of this study is to analyze the impacts of partner volatility (new member, old member, and new group) on firm value. Design/methodology - To analyze the impact of partner volatility on firm value, companies in strategic alliances are classified into the three groups of new partner, existing partner, and new alliance, and the effects on company value are verified through an event study and the signaling effect analysis. Findings - This study proved that new partners and newly formed strategic alliances have higher expectation effects than old partner company groups, and have a more positive effect on the relevant firms' stock prices. In addition, the result of the study showed the same valid results as the alliance levels, and showed that investors' expectations were higher with new partners and new alliances than with old partners. Research Implications - A new perspective on the signaling effects of strategic alliances among shipping lines was presented in this study by grouping alliance types including new member, old member, and new group. The results provide useful insights for selecting partners and firm values of alliance announcement times. Originality/value - This study analyzed partner volatility on relevant companies' stock prices from the perspective of investors from the global shipping conference reorganization in 2017. Strategic alliances were classified into the three categories of new partner, old partner, and new alliance, and the effects on firm value were verified.

Shanghai Containerised Freight Index Forecasting Based on Deep Learning Methods: Evidence from Chinese Futures Markets

  • With the escalation of global trade, the Chinese commodity futures market has ascended to a pivotal role within the international shipping landscape. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI), a leading indicator of the shipping industry's health, is particularly sensitive to the vicissitudes of the Chinese commodity futures sector. Nevertheless, a significant research gap exists regarding the application of Chinese commodity futures prices as predictive tools for the SCFI. To address this gap, the present study employs a comprehensive dataset spanning daily observations from March 24, 2017, to May 27, 2022, encompassing a total of 29,308 data points. We have crafted an innovative deep learning model that synergistically combines Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures. The outcomes show that the CNN-LSTM model does a great job of finding the nonlinear dynamics in the SCFI dataset and accurately capturing its long-term temporal dependencies. The model can handle changes in random sample selection, data frequency, and structural shifts within the dataset. It achieved an impressive R2 of 96.6% and did better than the LSTM and CNN models that were used alone. This research underscores the predictive prowess of the Chinese futures market in influencing the Shipping Cost Index, deepening our understanding of the intricate relationship between the shipping industry and the financial sphere. Furthermore, it broadens the scope of machine learning applications in maritime transportation management, paving the way for SCFI forecasting research. The study's findings offer potent decision-support tools and risk management solutions for logistics enterprises, shipping corporations, and governmental entities.

지정학적 위기와 해운기업 주가 변동성의 인과관계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Causality between Geopolitical Risk and Stock Price Volatility of Shipping Companies)

  • 본 연구는 지정학적 위기와 해운기업 주식가격 변동성의 인과관계를 분석하였다. 해운산업은 국가간의 교역에 의해서 수요가 파생되는 국제성을 가지기 때문에, 여러 가지 종류의 불확실성과 리스크에 직면하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 최근 러시아-우크라이나 전쟁 및 이스라엘-하마스 전쟁 등으로 부상하고 있는 지정학적 위기가 해운산업에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 특히, 지정학적 불확실성이 해운기업의 주식가격 변동성에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석함으로서 이에 대한 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 2000~2023년 기간 동안 한국거래소에 상장된 해운기업 5개사의 주식가격 변동성과 지정학적 위기 지수의 관계를 벡터자기회귀모형 기반의 인과성을 검정한 결과, 다음과 같은 결론이 도출되었다. 첫째, 지정학적 위기가 고조될수록 해운기업 주식가격의 변동성은 확대되었다. 둘째, 외교적 마찰로 인한 지정학적 위기보다는 실제 발생하는 이벤트에 의한 지정학적 위기의 영향이 통계적으로 유의하였다. 마지막으로, 지정학적 위기로 인한 주식가격 변동성의 확대는 주로 벌크부문에 나타났다.

해운기업의 e-비즈니스 활용과 영향요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Factors affecting Usage of e-business in the Shipping Companies)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 해운기업을 대상으로 e-비즈니스 활용의 영향요인과 활용수준간의 인과관계를 분석하는데 있다. 이를 위해 먼저, 신뢰성분석과 타당성분석(요인분석)을 실시하였다. 다음으로, 어떠한 요인이 e-비즈니스 활용에 더 큰 영향을 미치는 지를 구체적으로 분석하기 위해 도출된 9개의 독립변수와 2개 종속변수를 이용하여 다중회귀분석을 수행하였다. 다중회귀분석 결과, 9개의 요인 중에서 실질적으로 e-비즈니스 서비스업무 활용수준에 영향을 미치는 요인은 5개인 것으로, e-비즈니스 실거래업무 활용수준에는 4개의 요인만이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Study on development of vessel shore report management system for IMO MSP 8

  • In this study, a Vessel Shore Report Management System (VSRMS) is developed for the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Maritime Service Portfolio (MSP) Number 8, which comprises vessel shore reporting. Several documents have to be completed before the arrival/departure of a vessel at a port, as each national port has its own reporting format and data. The present vessel reporting system is inefficient, time-consuming, and involves excessive paperwork, which results in duplications and errors. To solve this problem, in this study, the vessel reporting formats and data contents of various national ports are investigated, as at present, the reporting documents required by the current IMO standard includes insufficient information which is requested by national ports. Initially, the vessel reporting information of various national ports are collected and analyzed. Subsequently, a database structure for managing vessel reporting data for ports worldwide is devised. To make the transfer of data and the exchange of information of vessel reports much more reliable, efficient, and paper-free, VSRMS, which is a software application for the simplification and facilitation of vessel report formalities, is developed. This application is developed using the latest Microsoft C#.Net Programming Language in the Microsoft Visual Studio framework 4.5. It provides a user interface and a backend MySQL server used for database management. SAP Crystal Reports 2013 is used for designing and generating vessel reports in the original report formats. The VSRMS can facilitate vessel reporting and improve data accuracy through the reduction of input data, efficient data exchange, and reduction of the cost of communication. Adoption of the VSRMS will allow the vessel shore reporting system to be automated, resulting in enhanced work efficiency for shipping companies. Based on this information system and architecture, the consensus of various international organizations, such as the IMO, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents (FONASBA), and the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), is required so that vessel reporting is standardized internationally.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 국제물류서비스 제공자인 복합운송주선업체와 그 수요자인 화주간의 관계에서 복합운송주선업체의 서비스지향성과 종업원만족, 경영성과간의 구조적인 관계를 검정하고자 하는 것이다. 연구목적을 효과적으로 달성하기 위하여 문헌연구와 함께 복합운송주선업체를 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통한 실증분석을 병행하였다. 연구결과 복합운송주선업체의 서비스지향성은 종업원만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 종업원만족은 기업의 재무적 성과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다.
