  • A diagnostic investigation is carried out to examine the igniter jet turbulence effects on the internal ballistics of solid rocket motors with divergent port. The numerical studies have been carried out with the help of a two dimensional k-omega turbulence model. It was inferred that increasing the igniter jet turbulence intensity is a possible way to decrease the pressure spike and pressurization rate, marginally during the ignition transient, by altering the location of the secondary ignition in solid rocket motors with non-uniform port.

  • This paper presents a two-phase model for hybrid rocket internal ballistics design using $N_2O$ as oxidizer The two-phase model results are compared with data obtained from static firing test. Two-phase model is suitable for blow-down type with saturated compressible fluid as $N_2O$, presented the result by Part 1. HDPE as Fuel, and $N_2O$ as oxidizer were used during the static firing test. The combustor were designed for an average thrust of 30 kgf where oxidizer tank pressure in set to 50 bar. The numerical results of internal ballistic showed good agreements with static firing test results where thrust, oxidizer tank pressure and chamber pressure are compared.

  • A typical unsteady internal ballistic analysis model was proposed to take account of the erosive burning for a solid rocket motor. The variance of local velocity and pressure along grain surface are analyzed by using the continuity and momentum equation. The model introduced in this study showed good agreements with the results of previous internal ballistics program. It was investigated that the change of combustion pressure, gas velocity and regrestion rate along the grain axis.

  • In this study, the hybrid rocket was developed that has a thrust of 1000 kgf level. The static fire test was shown that the thrust was 700 kgf level and trajectory was predicted by the maximum altitude of 12.5 km. The L/D ratio of KHyRoc-I has 28, but the KHyRoc-II were designed the small L/D ratio(18.3) using the seamless aluminium tube(Diameter : 250 mm). And KHyRoc-II has a thrust of 900 kgf level, that is designed with internal ballistics and trajectory was predicted by the maximum altitude of 7.4 km.

  • A typical unsteady internal ballistic analysis model was developed to take account the erosive burning of a solid rocket motor. The variance of local velocity and pressure along grain surface were analyzed by using the continuity and momentum equation. The coefficients of erosive burning were drew from comparing experiment data with analysis. It was investigated that the grain shapes of propellant affect the erosive burning.

  • Internal Ballistic modeling and performance prediction for solid propellant micro thruster was performed with heat loss to the chamber wall as an important factor of miniaturization. Simple l-D end-burner type thruster and general HTPB-AP type composite propellant were selected for computation model. The results showed that the performance loss with the heat loss to the surroundings becomes larger as the surface-to-volume ratio is increased. In this case, the total impulse was reduced about 3% of the case in adiabatic condition.

  • Two erosive burning models were applied to compare analysis results of ballistic for the internal ballistics of solid rocket motors. By comparing motor tests with results of analysis, the variance of a grain shape was analyzed and coefficients of erosive burning were drawn. Results of comparison presents that the coefficient of erosive burning was proportional to the change of burning area, while inversely proportional to the change of cross area.

  • In this study, a thrust modulation through oxidizer mass flow rate control and internal ballistic analysis based on Whitmore and Chandlers' models was conducted on a blow-down hybrid rocket using nitrous oxide. The tank pressure prediction considering mass flow rate control of the self-pressuring oxidizer was conducted, and the results showed good agreements with experimental results. In order to verify the internal ballistic analysis, a ground combustion test using a 500 N class hybrid rocket was conducted, and it was confirmed that the experimental results and the analytical results were quite consistent in the chamber pressure and thrust, thereby, a modeling technique capable of predicting the thrust modulation performance is proposed.

  • Internal ballistics is a phenomenon happened in tens of milliseconds during the gun firing. The configuration variables of the solid propellant are important factors which have influences on the performance of the gun system. In this study, the performance analysis of the 7-perforated propellant has been conducted using the numerical program for the interior ballistics. The effect of the configuration variables on the gun system performance has been analyzed. The propellant design has been conducted for the satisfaction of the performance requirements. As results, the relationship between the configuration variables and the performance has been obtained and the basic design concept of the multi-perforated propellant has been provided.

  • The small size of hybrid rocket using PE-$LN_2O$ was designed, constructed and launched for a development basic technology of Hybrid rocket vehicle. The hybrid engine ignition system was designed with valve system using external actuator and confirmed working without any fault. To design fuel grain an internal ballistics design was carried out, and to estimate rockets flight path an external ballistics analysis was carried out. So the rocket was designed and constructed, and the launch test proves that hybrid rocket's design was suitable. The hybrid rocket(weight : 9kg, diameter : 110 mm, height : 1.7 m) was launched successfully. But parachute was deployed on mid-flight and the mission could not finish its purposed flight. Some of problems were found in this activity but next launch vehicle will be improved.
