  • This study aims to empirically examine serial entrepreneurship in Korea. Using the ICT startups survey data, I compare serial entrepreneurs with their novice counterparts in terms of business behaviors and performances. I found that serial entrepreneurs are more likely than novice ones to co-found a business with other entrepreneurs, enter a market with relatively large assets and expand their business into overseas market. They tend to put more importance on large-scale production and expansion strategy than first-time entrepreneurs. They are more likely to cooperate with suppliers and customers but less likely with the governments. From their experience of founding and operating businesses, the findings suggest that serial entrepeneurs are more market-oriented and more capable of managing internal human relations and external network of supply chain. Consequently, serial entrepreneurs show stronger early financial performance than novice entrepreneurs especially when they team up to found a business.

  • This paper has attempted to examine the political and operational contexts within which North Korea's latest acts of nuclear blackmail, its test-firing of an SLBM on April 23rd 2016 and its fourth nuclear test on January 6th 2016, should be understood. Analysis of the KN-11 SLBM and the Sinpo-class SSB is based on official South Korean, US and others sources, especially the ROK MND, as well as other resources from South Korea, US and others. Unfortunately, the results of this exploration are inconclusive: there is simply not enough evidence available at present to either confirm or refute the existence of a functional North Korean SLBM and SSB. Nevertheless, the North Korean determination to possess such assets should not be taken lightly. But even accepting North Korea's claims about its SLBMs at face value, which is undermined by news of apparently unsuccessful follow-up test-firings in November, and probably December 2015, there is little proof that North Korea has yet succeeded in miniaturizing its nuclear warhead, so the most extravagant fears are not yet justified. Taken together with North Korea's latest announcement of a supposed successful SLBM ejection-test, on March 23th 2016, the KN-11 SLBM claims should probably be seen as primarily about proving North Korea's status as a nuclear power, both to exert external political pressure and to bolster internal political support for Kim Jong-un's rule. In conclusion, this paper recommends formulating a preemptive anti-access strategy for the ROKN, proposes acquiring an ASW CV and SSNs to implement submarine strategic deterrent patrols, and urges extending the existing limited AORs to facilitate the preemptive anti-access strategy. Other deterrence options may be suggested, but it is surely significant that the ROKN has recently publically referred to the deployment of an ASW CV and SSNs for the first time.

  • Landslides, one of earth's natural disasters, increase every year due to heavy rainfall, and cause damage to human life and assets. This study used the SHALSTAB to predict places at risk of landslides, in accordance with the intensity of rainfall. The parameter value of transmissivity was $19.58m^2/day$, the internal friction angle $36.3^{\circ}$, and the saturated unit weight $2.03t/m^3$. The slope stability status was classified into four categories, namely: unconditionally stable, stable, unstable and unconditionally unstable. In order to evaluate the applicability of the SHALSTAB, actual landslide areas were checked, with the unstable area under 263 mm rainfall. 85.1% of them were consistent. And so we can identify the distribution of places at risk of landslides, on the basis of the intensity of rainfall by means of SHALSTAB.

  • The Real Time Location System (RTLS) is very important in the ubiquitous society for real time tracking of men, high price assets, and logistics products. In this work, we developed an active RF system for RTLS and tested its performance. The RTLS system developed in this work was constructed of three active readers and one active tag. The small size tag developed in this work operated with a coin type battery. To make the tag smaller, we used an internal PCB antenna and a chip antenna. We tested the performance of the tag. To reduce the manufacturing cost of our RF system, we used low price RF transceiver CC2510 chip-set. The CC2510 chip-set provided RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator) signal which could be used to determine the distances between an active tag and three active readers.

  • The influence of noxious corrosive gas, which is the product of fossil fuel, and the acidic descent material, which becomes the reason for such reaction, on wax which protects the cultural assets, and the habitat factor were researched. It could be viewed that corrosion occurred rapidly due to the acidic descent material, which have the long staying on the material, rather than harmful corrosive gas. Also, it could be figured out that such corrosion began from whitening phenomenon of coated wax. As the acidity increased, more whitening phenomenon occurred, and eventually, it could be found out that whitening effect began due to the acidic descent material, corrosive gas and various 0.1 M acid solution, which lead to the exposure of internal metal, and corrosion occurred. The wax with the greatest resistance to the acidity due to its least changing aspect seemed to be Renaissance wax, except sulfuric acid.

  • Efficiency and competitive power in agribusiness management has became important issue due to the rapid changes in farming environment under new WTO agreement. To increase competitive power, small-sized petty farm should be restructured to be specialized large-scaled farming system. Trust farming corporation(TFC) has been introduced to increase farm productivity and competitive power through large scale farming system and refined management skills. Eventually, TFCs are expected to revitalize rural economy. TFCs are increasing in numbers, but they are unsatisfactory in quality often with insolvent operations. The typical problems with TFCs are internal conflicts among members, lack of management abilities and incentives, inefficiency in machinery use, and insolvent operations. The self effort by members and legal-institutional assistance can alleviate the negative factors against the rational for cooperative management and sustain TFCs. This study identifies the management problems of TFCs. To provide the methods for increasing management efficiency, improving rational management skills, and hence to help revitalizing the rural economy with competitive power, 20 TFCs in Nonsan County is surveyed. The major findings are as follows; 1) According to the survey result of 20 trust farming corporations, investments on the accumulation of knowledges and information, accounting management, machinery management are required due to the present lack of management/accounting ability. There also exist problems associated with revenue sources, labor uses, and public recognition. To increase management efficiency under current situation, corporations should import active business plans with expanding farming execution and off-farm season business. 2) Based on the result of corporations' business analysis, more than 50% of the corporations were not able to provide profit dividends to the members. It suggests that trust farming corporations need appropriate and stable revenue sources to sustain business. It is also required that corporations should reduce their excessive expenditure on fixed assets. 3) Theoretical amounts of consignment fees for tillage operation, planting, and harvesting were found to be 338,874 won, 216,596 won, and 332,318 won, respectively. Although actual levels of fee are 110%~120% of these theoretical levels of consignment fee, corporations' expected fee levels could not be acheived because of competency of consignment market.

  • In the past few years, data leakage of information assets has become a prominent issue. According to the National Intelligence Service in South Korea, they found 375 cases of data leakage from 2003 to 2013, especially 49 of cases have been uncovered in 2013 alone. These criminals are increasing as time passes. Thus, it constitutes a reason for establishment and operation of ISMS (Information Security Management System) even for private enterprises. But to be ISMS certified, there are many exposed or unexposed barriers, moreover, sufficient amount of studies has not been conducted on the barriers of ISMS Certification. In this study, we analyse empirically through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to find the obstacle factors of ISMS Certification. The result shows that there are six obstacle factors in ISMS Certification; Auditing difficulty and period, Consulting firm related, Certification precedence case and consulting qualification, Internal factor, CA reliability and auditing cost, Certification benefit.

  • An APT attack is a new hacking technique that continuously attacks specific targets and is called an APT attack in which a hacker exploits various security threats to continually attack a company or organization's network. Protect employees in a specific organization and access their internal servers or databases until they acquire significant assets of the company or organization, such as personal information leaks or critical data breaches. Also, APT attacks are not attacked at once, and it is difficult to detect hacking over the years. This white paper examines ongoing APT attacks and identifies, educates, and proposes measures to build a security management system, from the executives of each organization to the general staff. It also provides security updates and up-to-date antivirus software to prevent malicious code from infiltrating your company or organization, which can exploit vulnerabilities in your organization that could infect malicious code. And provides an environment to respond to APT attacks.
