The Effects of Collaborative R&D Activity on Product and Process Innovation: A Negative Binomial Modeling Approach (기업의 공동연구개발활동이 제품혁신 및 공정혁신에 미치는 영향 - 음이항회귀모형을 활용하여 -)

  • Technology innovation is a competitive weapon of sustainable economic growth at the urban and regional level and the growth of firms. In this study, we empirically investigate the effects of collaborative R&D activity on product innovative outputs and process innovative outputs in manufacturing firms in Korea. We analyze the links between collaborative R&D activity and two types of innovative outputs using an alternative negative binomial regression model. The major finding is that collaborative R&D activity has significant positive effects on both product and process innovation. The results also identify a positive link between all types of innovative outputs and other R&D activities including internal R&D activity, patent activity, external technology and capital goods acquisitions. To induce corporate growth that enhances the productivity of individual firms and produces prolonged economic growth, policy makers should place greater emphasis on creating effective arrangements to promote establishing collaborative R&D strategies for manufacturing firms.

  • The research question of this work comes from that there have been disputes for the governance and roles of the Rural Development Agency (RDA), despite of rather excellence performances of Agricultural R&D program supported by RDA. For this reason, I meta-evaluated the internal evaluation system of Agricultural R&D program in RDA, in terms of the four meta-evaluation components such as evaluation paradigm, evaluation resources, evaluation execution and evaluation utilization. The result shows that the most serious problem is rather lower level of evaluation. Object, one of the evaluation paradigms in the R&D evaluation system of the RDA. So, this work suggested the policy alternatives which may lead the R&D evaluation system of the RDA to be developed for the performance-oriented R&D management system.

Overview of Region-oriented Technologies through R&D Topographical Landscape (연구지형탐색을 통한 지역특화 미래기술전망)

  • R&D productivity(P) and qualification(Q) for 16 regions in Korea were measured using all scientific output (articles) from several kinds of specific R&D program under the 3rd regional science and technology promotion policy(2008-2012). R&D capabilities of 16 regions were evaluated from Q-P position analysis and also compared between these regions for the purpose of examining their R&D capability status. Especially, R&D topographical map was created using the output of research and development over 5 years for investigating GyeongNam district's activities in science and technology and also analyzing co-relationship between basic research areas (or fields) and specialized strategic industrial sectors of GyeongNam district. As results of this study, 20 future-oriented research fields were suggested from this topographical map, which reflected internal R&D potentials and industrial infrastructure of GyeongNam district.

Long-term Effect of Desferrioxamine to rHuEPO Resistant Anemia in Hemodialysis Patients (혈액 투석 환자에서 나타나는 rHuEPO 저항성 빈혈에 대한 Desferrioxamine의 장기 효과)

  • There are several factors concerning to anemia in chronic renal failure patients. But when rHuEPO is used, most of these factors can be overcome, and the levels of hemoglobin are increased. However, about 10% of the renal failure patients represent rHuEPO-resistant anemia eventhough high dosage of rHuEPO. For these cases, desferrioxamine can be applied to correct rHuEPO resistnacy, and many mechanism of DFO are arguing. So we are going to know whether DFO can be applied to correct anemia of the such patients, how long its effect can be continued. The seven pateients as experimental group(DFO+EPO) who represent refractoriness to rHuEPO and the other seven patients as control group(EPO) were included. Experimental group had lower than 9 g/dL of hemoglobin levels despite high rHuEPO dosage (more than 4000U/Wk) and showed normocytic normochromic anemia. There were no definitve causes of anemia such as hemorrhage or iron deficiency. Control group patients had similar characteristics in age, mean dialysis duration but showed adequate response to rHuEPO. DFO was administered to experimental group for 8 weeks along with rHuEPO(the rHuEPO individual mean dosage had been determined by mean dosage of the previous 6 months. Total mean dosage; 123.5 U/Kg/Wk). After 8 weeks of DFO administration, the hemoglobin and rHuEPO dosage levels were checked for 15 consecutive months. It should be noted that the patients determined their own rHuEPO dosage levels according to hemoglobin levels and economic status. In conrol group, rHuEPO was administered by the same method used in experimental group without DFO through the same period. Fifteen months of observation period after DFO trial were divided as Time I(7 months after DFO trial) and Time II(8 months after Time I). The results are as follows: Before DFO trial, mean hemoglobin level of experimental group was 7.8 g/dL, which is similar level(p>0.05) to control group(mean Hb; 8.2 g/dL). But in experimental group, significantly(p<0.05) higher dosages of rHuEPO(mean; 123.5 U/Kg/Wk) than control group (mean; 41.6 U/Kg/Wk) had been used. It means resistancy to rHuEPO of experimental group. But after DFO trial, the hemoglobin levels of the experimental group were increased significantly(p<0.05), and these effect were continued to Time II.(Time I; mean 8.6g/dL, Time II; mean 8.6g/dL) The effects of DFO to hemoglobin were continued for 15 months after DFO trial with similar degree through Time I, Time II. Also, rHuEPO dosages used in the experimental group were decreased to similar levels of the control group after DFO trial and these effect were also continued for 15 months(Time I; mean 48.1 U/Kg/Wk. Time II; mean 51.8 U/Kg/Wk). In the same period, hemoglobin levels and rHuEPO dosages used in the control group were not changed significantly. Notibly, hemoglobin increment and rHuEPO usage decrement in experimental group were showed maxilly in the 1st month after DFO trial. That is, after the use of DFO, erythopoiesis was enhanced with a reduced rHuEPO dosage. So we think rHuEPO reisistancy can be overcome by DFO therapy. In conclusion, the DFO can improve the anemia caused by chronic renal failure at least over 1 year, and hence, can reduce the dosage of rHuEPO for anemia correction. Additional studies in order to determine the mechanism of DFO on erythropoiesis and careful attention to potential side effects of DFO will be needed.

LARGE SCALE FINITE ELEMENT THERMAL ANALYSIS OF THE BOLTS OF A FRENCH PWR CORE INTERNAL BAFFLE STRUCTURE

  • The internal core baffle structure of a French Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) consists of a collection of baffles and formers that are attached to the barrel. The connections are done thanks to a large number of bolts (about 1500). After inspection, some of the bolts have been found cracked. This has been attributed to the Irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC). The $Electricit\acute{e}$ De France (EDF) has set up a research program to gain better knowledge of the temperature distribution, which may affect the bolts and the whole structure. The temperature distribution in the structure was calculated thanks to the thermal code SYRTHES that used a finite element approach. The heat transfer between the by-pass flow inside the cavities of the core baffle and the structure was accounted for thanks to a strong thermal coupling between the thermal code SYRTHES and the CFD code named Code_Saturne. The results for the CP0 plant design show that both the high temperature and strong temperature gradients could potentially induce mechanical stresses. The CPY design, where each bolt is individually cooled, had led to a reduction of temperatures inside the structures. A new parallel version of SYRTHES, for calculations on very large meshes and based on MPI, has been developed. A demonstration test on the complete structure that has led to about 1.1 billion linear tetraedra has been calculated on 2048 processors of the EDF Blue Gene computer.

Design of Internal FM Radio Antenna for Mobile Terminal (휴대 단말기용 내장형 FM 라디오 안테나의 설계)

  • This paper describes a design of internal frequency modulation(FM) radio antenna fur mobile terminal. In order to control of impedance at an operating frequency of the designed antenna, the lumped constant elements of R and L chip components are used. Patch and stubs located at antenna backside are added to control an exact resonance frequency and miniaturization. A fabricated antenna sire, the measured return loss, impedance, bandwidth, and gain are $40{\times}70{\times}1$ mm, -23 dB at 99 MHz, $55-j7{\Omega}$, 22 MHz($88{\sim}110$ MHz) below -10 dB, and -15 dBi, respectively. These measured results show a good agreement with simulated results. Especially, the measured gain of fabricated antenna is similar with value of a conventional ear-phone antenna in the designed frequency band. The measured radiation pattern agrees well with the calculated omni-directional pattern.

Study on Reliability and Validity of the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang Deficiency Questionnaire' (기혈음양허손 변증 설문지의 신뢰도 및 타당도 기초연구)

  • The study was performed to determine the reliability and validity of the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang Deficiency Questionnaire (Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ)' for the 100 subjects with chronic fatigue. After 100 subjects respond to the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ', Korean medical doctor classified the subjects into 4 groups such as Qi deficiency group, Blood deficiency group, Yin deficiency group and Yang deficiency group. 100 subjects were retested in the same way after 3 weeks. The reliability and the validity of the questionnaire were inspected. Internal consistency of the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ' was excellent (Cronbach alpha 0.916). Test-retest reliability was good (intra-class correlation coefficient 0.699). Construct validity analyzed by exploratory factor analysis produced 4 factors, which were selected from eigenvalues that are greater than 1.0. The 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ' consisted of 4 factors. The factor 1, 2, 3 and 4 showed 'Qi deficiency', 'Yin deficiency', 'Yang deficiency' and 'Blood deficiency' respectively. The 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ' restructured in this study may provide a fundamental questionnaire and a further study is required for a more advanced, standardized and statistically proven questionnaire.

Characterization of High Efficient Red Phosphorescent OLEDs Fabricated on Flexible Substrates (연성기판위에 제작된 고효율 Red 인광 OLED의 특성평가)

  • The organic light-emitting devices(OLEDs) based on fluorescence have low efficiency due to the requirement of spin-symmetry conservation. By using the phosphorescent material, the internal quantum efficiency can reach 100$\%$, compared to 25$\%$ in case of the fluorescent material [1]. Thus recently phosphorescent OLEDs have been extensively studied and showed higher internal quantum efficiency than conventional OLEDs. In this study, we have applied a new Ir complex as a red dopant and fabricated a red phosphorescent OLED on a flexible PC(Polycarbonate) substrate. Also, we have investigated the electrical and optical properties of the devices with a structure of A1/LiF/Alq3/(RD05 doped)BAlq/NPB/2-TNAIA/ITO/PC substrate. Our device showed the lightening efficiency of > 30 cd/A at an initial brightness of 1000 cd/$m^{2}$. The CIE(Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage) coordinates for the device were (0.62,0.37) at a current density of 1 mA/$cm^{2}$. In addition, although the sheet resistance of ITO films on PC substrate is higher than that on glass substrate, the flexible OLED showed much better lightening efficiency without much increase in operating voltage.

Exploration of Optimal Product Innovation Strategy Using Decision Tree Analysis: A Data-mining Approach

  • Recently, global competition in the manufacturing sector is driving firms in the manufacturing sector to conduct product innovation projects to maintain their competitive edge. The key points of product innovation projects are 1) what the purpose of the project is and 2) what expected results in the target market can be achieved by implementing the innovation. Therefore, this study focuses on the performance of innovation projects with a business viewpoint. In this respect, this study proposes the "achievement rate" of product innovation projects as a measurement of project performance. Then, this study finds the best strategies from various innovation activities to optimize the achievement rate of product innovation projects. There are three major innovation activities for the projects, including three types of R&D activities: Internal, joint and external R&D, and five types of non-R&D activities - acquisition of machines, equipment and software, purchasing external knowledge, job education and training, market research and design. This study applies decision tree modeling, a kind of data-mining methodology, to explore effective innovation activities. This study employs the data from the 'Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) 2014: Manufacturing Sector.' The KIS 2014 gathered information about innovation activities in the manufacturing sector over three years (2011-2013). This study gives some practical implication for managing the activities. First, innovation activities that increased the achievement rate of product diversification projects included a combination of market research, new product design, and job training. Second, our results show that a combination of internal R&D, job training and training, and market research increases the project achievement most for the replacement of outdated products. Third, new market creation or extension of market share indicates that launching replacement products and continuously upgrading products are most important.

Prediction for Underwater Static Magnetic Field Signature Generated by Hull and Internal Structure for Ferromagnetic Ship (강자성 함정 선체 및 내부 장비에 의한 수중 정자기장 신호 예측)

  • Underwater static magnetic field signature for the naval ship has been widely used as the detonating source of the influence mine system because it is possible to make an accurate target detection in the near field although the magnetic field falls off relatively fast with distance in comparison with the underwater radiated noise signal. In this paper, we describe the prediction results about the underwater static magnetic field by the ferromagnetic hull, the internal structures and the main on-board equipment for the target vessel using the commercial FEM software. Also we analyze the degaussing effectiveness for the target vessel through the degaussing coils arrangement.
