  • Paljinhangahm-dan is an Oriental herbal formulation for its ability to modulate cancer cell growth and survival. This research was performed to study the anti-cancer effects of Paljinhangahm-dan water extract(PHWE) in human pro myelocytic leukemia(HL-60) cells. After HL-60 cells were routinely cultured, tetrazolium-based colorimetric(MTT) assay was performed for cytotoxicity test. To explore the mechanism of cytotoxicity. I used several measures of apoptosis to determine whether this processes was involved in PHWE-induced cell death in HL-60 cells. In addition, the experiment was practised 1 H-NMR spectroscopy to examine molecular structure of PHWE. This study suggested that PHWE control cancer cell growth through of apoptosis with less cytotoxicity in normal cells.

  • This paper addresses the optimal design of dividing wall distillation column which is rapidly applied in a variety of chemical processes over recent several years because of its high energy saving efficiency. A general dividing wall column model which can cope with the heat transfer through the dividing wall is developed using rigorous computer simulation. Based on the simulation model, the effects of the internal recycle flow distribution around the dividing wall and the heat transfer across the dividing wall on overall system performance are investigated. An improved method is suggested to utilize the heat transfer through the wall to optimal column design. The suggested method is compared with the existing method via. simulation study and shows more improved energy saving result. Several control strategies for the divided wall column are tested and the optimal control strategy is propose

  • Numerical calculation tool for forging of gear-like components based on kinematically admissible velocity fields for upper bound method applicable to various deformation features of workpiece in forging processes were suggested. Each one of them deals with unidirectional flow of metal on dies, such as external involute spur gear, sequare spline, internal serrations. A complex calcuation tool of gear-like component forging process was built up by combining these kinematically velocity fields. In this paper, the workpiece with both external and internal teeth is divided into two parts. The deformation of each part is analyzed simultaneously using numerical calculation tool form combined kinematically admissible velocity field. The experimental set-up was installed in a 200 ton hydraulic press. As a result, each kinematically admissible velocity field could be combined with other and the calculated solution are useful to predict the capacity of forging equipment.

  • Most of structural analyses are concerned with the deformation and stress in a body subjected to external loads. In many fields, however, the interpretation of inverse problems is needed to determine surface tractions or internal stresses. In this study, the inverse processes by using the finite elements and the boundary elements are formulated for the evaluation of internal residual stresses from displacements measured on a remote surface. Small errors in the measured displacements often result in a substantial loss of accuracy of an inverse system. We use the Tikhonov regularization techniques to regularize the ill-conditioned system. Advantages and disadvantages are discussed through numerical examples.

  • This thesis aims to analyze the visual perceptual effects drawn by 'axial composition and divergence' and to interpret the architecture of Kahn in respect of 'axial composition and divergence'. Axial composition of the form, the location of the entrance and divergence of internal movement were checked up about 53 works by extracting parti which is basic element of spatial composition. The 3D modeling simulation was performed for the selected 10 works in order to analyze the visual perceptual effect due to divergence of the internal movement. The reaction of the observer's actions and visual perception by 'axial composition and divergence' is presented in the following steps. 1. Divergence of the entrance/a panorama of expanding planes. 2. Divergence of internal movement/The process of perception of visual rotation and central spatial form. 'Perceptive form' created by 'divergence' is the result of diverse and flexible series of processes which must be experienced in person in order to reach the space as a room with a definite domain and center.

  • Micro electrochemical machining was investigated to machine micro internal features. This method uses a micro disk tool electrode and can easily machine micro features inside of a micro hole, which are very difficult to make by the conventional processes. In order to limit the machining area and localize the electrochemical dissolution, ultra short pulses were used as power source and a micro disk electrode with insulating layer on its surface was used as a tool electrode. By electrochemical process, internal features, such as groove array, were fabricated on the stainless steel plate.

  • This research made an actual study of the Internal Control Systems on medium and small business company located on Gumi industry area. From this study, we learned that work scope, approval procedure and proof documents are well prepared, but some problem of the lack of communication has arose and it should be more complementary. Findings from this study show that the materials and purchasing processes are generally well-operated, but the information-sharing and training related to materials code are still insufficient and require more complementary systems.

  • A study on relation of angiogenesis and blood stagnation in cancer was done, and the results were as follows. 1. Angiogenesis is a sequence of vascular proliferation and accomplished by regulation of anti-angiogenesis factor and indicating factor. These factors are secreted in the course of blood coagulation, inflammation, and regeneration. 2. Angiogenesis in cancer is a important action in growth of tumor and metastasis because it supply oxygen and nutrition. 3. The complicated processes, for example, platelet coagulation, action of coagulator factor & dissolution factor and interaction of variety factors are related to blood stasis and promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis in oriental medicine. 4. Promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis is expected to suppress angiogenesis, and we expect advanced study will be accomplished in future.

  • Aging is characterized by a functional decline in most physiological processes, including alterations in cellular metabolism and defense mechanisms. Increasing evidence suggests that caloric restriction extends longevity and retards age-related diseases at least in part by reducing metabolic rate and oxidative stress in a variety of species, including yeast, worms, flies, and mice. Moreover, recent studies in invertebrates - worms and flies, highlight the intricate interrelation between reproductive longevity and somatic aging (known as disposable soma theory of aging), which appears to be conserved in vertebrates. This review is specifically focused on how the reproductive system modulates somatic aging and vice versa in genetic model systems. Since many signaling pathways governing the aging process are evolutionarily conserved, similar mechanisms may be involved in controlling soma and reproductive aging in vertebrates.
