  • Soft soil ground is a crucial factor limiting the development of the construction of transportation infrastructure in coastal areas. Soft soil is characterized by low strength, low permeability and high compressibility. However, the ordinary treatment method uses Portland cement to solidify the soft soil, which has low early strength and requires a long curing time. Microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) is an emerging method to address geo-environmental problems associated with geotechnical materials. In this study, a method of bio-cementitious mortars consisting of MICP and cement was proposed to stabilize the soft soil. A series of laboratory tests were conducted on MICP-treated and cement-MICP-treated (C-MICP-treated) soft soils to improve mechanical properties. Microscale observations were also undertaken to reveal the underlying mechanism of cement-soil treated by MICP. The results showed that cohesion and internal friction angles of MICP-treated soft soil were greater than those of remolded soft soil. The UCS, elastic modulus and toughness of C-MICP-treated soft soil with high moisture content (50%, 60%, 70%, 80%) were improved compared to traditional cement-soil. A remarkable difference was observed that the MICP process mainly played a role in the early curing stage (i.e., within 14 days) while cement hydration continued during the whole process. Micro-characterization revealed that the calcium carbonate filling the pores enhanced the soft soil.

  • Purpose: Natural products are becoming gradually popular because of their health - related benefits and consumers' environmental awareness. However, research in this field remains limited, the present study attempts to address this research gap by measuring the influencing levels of the antecedents on natural product brand love. Research design, data and methodology: The study employs S-O-R (Stimulus - Organism - Response) framework together with Innovation Resistance Theory and Dual-Factor Theory to propose the research model, in which health and environmental stimuli influence both of facilitators and inhibitors of internal states or organism, and then shape purchase intention and brand love as consumers' responses. The mixed research method is designed with the application of structural equation model (SEM) to analyze 530 consumers collected by convenience sampling. Results: The results revealed that two chosen stimuli, including health awareness and environmental concern were positively related to both facilitators (natural content and regional products) and inhibitors (image barrier and usage barrier) and these four factors were significantly associated to purchase intention and brand love. Furthermore, purchase intention played the mediating role on the relationship between the four organisms and brand love. Conclusions: The originality of this paper is extend S-O-R theory into natural product context with mediating effects in an emerging economy. The findings make theoretical contribution on consumer behavior and managerial implication.

  • A numerical study of a two-layer, stratified flow is investigated, using the implicit finite difference method in one dimension. The results of computational method have been tested and, in case of lock exchange flow, compared with the results of experimental data. The results of model experiments with various interfacial, bottom friction coefficients along with various time weighting factor of numerical scheme and dissipative interface are shown and discussed. Two-layer model experiment has been also carried out to investigate the generation and propagation characteristics of internal tidal wave over the steep bottom topography under stratified condition. The internal wave seems to well radiate through the downstream boundary under the experiments adopting radiation conditions both at two layers and only at upper layer, confirming the applicability of radiational boundary condition in stratified flows. It is also shown that the internal wave through the downstream boundary propagates more actively with increasing thickness of lower layer in the downstream. This implies that the potential tidal energy in the interface will depend upon the thickness of lower layer for the constant thickness of upper layer.

  • Background: This study evaluated the accuracy of smoking habit from the data obtained from the medical records of lung cancer patients against the data obtained form face-to-face interview questionnaires Methods: The smoking habits of 225 lung cancer patients were categorized into never smoked, ex-smoker and current smoker in face-to-face interview questionnaire and medical record taken at the time of admission for a diagnosis. The overall agreement between two sources was evaluated. The factors affecting the disagreement between two sources and the level of data omission of the smoking habits in medical records were analyzed suing multiple logistic regression. Results: The smoking habit between two sources showed moderate overall agreement(Kappa $({\kappa})=0.60$). The lowest agreement was observed in the ex-smokers(${\kappa}=0.49$). Multivariate analysis revealed an age of 65 or older to be a statistically significant factor associated with the increasing disagreement risk compared with those 64 or younger (OR 3.02; 95% CI 1.58-5.80). The omission rate of smoking habits in the medical records was 18.2%. Adenocarcinoma was shown to be a statistically significant factor of associated with an increasing omission rate compared with squamous cell carcinoma (OR 3.00; 95% CI 1.19-7.59). Conclusion: The smoking habits obtained from medical record moderately reflect their true behavior. However, the smoking habit data from medical record should be used with caution when being used in a clinical study or cohort study of lung cancer.

  • Slope stability analysis of unsaturated soil slopes due to rainfall infiltration is an important issue in evaluating landslide analysis and stability assessment. The purpose of this study is to establish the critical depth considering weathered soil of parent rock and rainfall intensity at main scarp in national landslide. Based on the analytical results, it is found that as rainfall duration and Slope angle increased, the critical depth of gneiss-weathered soil increased from 3.00 m to 3.77 m, the critical depth of granite weathered-soil increased from 1.75 m to 2.40 m, and the critical depth of mudstone-weathered soil increased from 3.00 m to 4.15 m, respectively. The critical depth of granite-weathered soil with low cohesion and high internal friction angle is much lower than those of other soils. It is interestingly shown that a decrease in the safety factor is highly significant, much affected by the slope increase rather than the rainfall intensity.

  • The concrete mix should be designed and produced to reflect the specific site conditions during concrete placement. That is, the concrete mix design should be planned considering temperatures, work environments, pouring methods, etc. The objective of this research is to understand the external factors of curing temperature and delay time that influence concrete strengths during pouring work, and provide concrete mix design that can be most robust to the effects of external factors. The Taguchi's robust method is used in preparing the concrete mix design to achieve the research objective. In a case study, an indoor concrete test was performed to find the optimal combination of concrete mixes with external factors of curing temperature and delay time. Concrete test cylinders were made to test concrete strengths given different external factors. The study results showed that the optimal performance of concrete strength can be achieved by applying the robust method when preparing a concrete mix design.

  • Previous studies stated that low carbon innovation performance could be influenced by government regulations and the green market, which is the new trend of consumer consumption in the present time, mainly focusing on external factors. Before study augured that low carbon innovation performance could be driven by internal and external factors of cooperation such as institutional pressure, stakeholder pressure, and innovation resources. However, the study of green transformational leadership and organizational environmental culture on low carbon innovation performance is rare, especially in Chinese manufacturing, as well as the effect of influencing factors of TPB model: environmental attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavior capability on low carbon innovation performance. Previous studies mostly used the TPB model for predicting individual behavior. This study established a theoretical model combining the TPB model with green transformational leadership and organizational environmental culture of Chinese automobile manufacturing on low carbon innovation performance. This study consists of two sections of research methodology: section 1 related to questionnaire design and data collection. We established a questionnaire and distributed it online, targeting responses from the managerial level working in Chinese automobile manufacturing. Eventually, 155 valid questionnaires were used for analysis. Section 2 involved data analysis using statistical software. Reliability and data validity was examined by reliability analysis and factor analysis. Correlations and convergent validity analyses were applied, and structural equation modeling was conducted to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicated that green transformational leadership, organizational environmental culture, and essential factors of TPB model; environmental attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavior capability positively affect low carbon innovation performance. In addition, the indirect effect of green transformational leadership was tested and found that organizational environmental culture and TPB factors mediated the relationship between transformational leadership and low carbon innovation performance.

  • This paper demonstrates safety factor for effective planning at initial stage by utilizing results on changes of safety factor according to various conditions of slop and examines impacts of factors that affect slope safety factors as well. Firstly, it describes shear strength which satisfies minimum allowable safety factor: 1.20 depending on height and slope. As the height increases by 5.0 m, the safety factors decrease by 0.04 while it tends to consistently reduce by approximately 20%, 30% and 40% after height goes to 10.0 m. As slope reduces by about 0.3, the safety factors increases by 0.4, which shows the rate of safety factors on slope grows by about 10%, 20% and 30% on lowering slope. When cohesion goes up by 10.0 kPa the safety factors increases by around 40% respectably while the angle of internal friction grows by $5^{\circ}$, it increases by about 8%. The rate of safety factors is identified as $Fs=3.86H^{-0.59}$, Fs = 0.43 s, Fs = 0.04 c, $Fs=0.02{\phi}$ depending on height, slope and shear strength. The safety factor with rainfall infiltration tends to increase by 18% compared to the condition of saturated surface on earth.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural relationship between internal capabilities and job satisfaction using the 7S model and propose measures to improve management performance through internal factors. For this study, seven research hypotheses were set up, and the survey conducted among members of all professions working in general hospitals in small and medium-sized cities in the provinces. From September 20 to October 20, 2016, 385 people were surveyed, and 327 pieces of data (84.9%) used for the study. Multiple regression analyses were performed to verify the effects of internal capabilities on job satisfaction. The analysis results showed that the explanatory power of the research model was suitable by showing 69.1%, and among the 7S factors, the leadership style (β=.392**), the organizational structure (β=.129*), the membership (β=.232**), and the management technique (β=.204*) showed a positive influence on job satisfaction. That has been confirmed to affect job satisfaction as the standardized factor values increase. Relationships between strategies, systems, and shared values on job satisfaction could not be identified. Significantly observed in the relationship between some internal capacity factors and job satisfaction is that internal capacity can be used as an alternative to an organization's performance improvement measures. Internal capacity can be affected by various environmental variables, such as establishment classification, size, and location. Further implications will also be provided for measuring future internal satisfaction levels separately from internal and external factors.
